Based on what, the one month of good games Dorgu had as LW? We need fresh blood and competition. We already backed down on Fernandes and other players like Scott are not even worth mentioning. Summerville would be a nice start to get our transfers going
 
Anyone who doesn’t rate Summerville is severely underestimating his physical qualities.

He’s lightning quick. Perfect for a sub-in for late game or for a high transition game.

He’s got relentless work ethic. When profiled correctly with the right quality around him he will thrive.

In 31 games he scored 5 goals with 2 assist. Poor output some would say but consider that he has had an ultra defensive Nuno as a coach for most of the high transition games made him less effective.

He’s a really good squad signing and someone who can add that Nani like pace down the wing. Last time we had that was Dan James but he lacked the technical tools to thrive at United.

Summerville is smart business.

I understand your reasoning, but ultimately Dorgu's month of good games at LW is more than what we can say for any Luke Shaw alternative at LB.

The fact remains we have a bigger hole at LB than we do at LW.

He was also a wide player for a time before he came to us (wing back?) and even when playing at LB, his attacking play looked better than his defensive at times.

If Summerville is dirt cheap, I’d still think twice but he won’t be. LB more important than left wing.

It's also the type of signing that makes the club more attractive and an easier sell to other talents.

Barcola expires in 2028. A transfer next summer for him is very realistic.

What’s Summerville 24? you could say he is a semi decent option for our wing positions until Shea Lacy and JJ you would hope take over. I’d imagine unless Shea goes on loan he’ll be part of the squad and we’ll see how JJ gets on in pre season but he might get a few minutes throughout the season and maybe in a year or 2 both are full members of the squad.

No. He’s going to cost upwards of £50m and for that price it’s not a good deal to do. He’ll be nothing more than a player who could come off the bench to make an impact, nothing more.

Are you refusing to take on board that this is how you build depth?

We are going into a season with champions league. We need all the depth we can get. £50m is good value for a polished winger who will instantly fit in.

Lordy me… nothing more? We will play Champions league and many cups. This will be a gruelling season for a squad not used to playing like that. We need all the depth we can get.

I agree, the squad needs depth. I don’t agree that Summerville is good enough to be even a squad player for us, especially not at the price being quoted.

So what? We need proper squad depth. If you go by prices you end up with 3rd tier players on deadline day.
 
Let’s say we sign him over left back, the positive thing is that he brings something that we don’t have to the squad, which is a combination of pace, quick feet and his dribbling skills in tight space. This type of player can be useful against the low block, can draw opposition players onto him to open space for others, and even winning penalty. When I watched west ham last season, he always look impressive with his feet. Quick and silky.

He only looked good in a few games though, rest he was very quiet. That could change in a different club of course.
I like him , just not for United, even as a squad player.

I think he is the kind of winger that Sir Alex would sign, direct, quick feet, trickery, pace, can dribble. We are currently don’t have this kind of winger in this squad so if we sign him, he would be good squad player as he brings something different to the squad. There will be lot of games that we need the kind of winger who is direct, quick, and can dribble.

Apparently, some reports mention he has 40m release clause. Good value in my opinion.
 
So what about those enquiries we made 3 weeks ago? Why does everything take so long? Especially since Fernandes etc. has also broken down.
Summerville is out of the WC, why not pocket him early on.
We are currently maneuvre ourselves in the exact same situation we have been so many times in the past and it always ended bad.
We all know that we are not capable of handling more than one transfer dealing at once, especially in August. We are also not capable of any good late signings after the season started.
So it´s now or never. Casemiro is off the wage bill and a solution for Rashford will hopefully be found as well. Sell Zirkzee etc. and spend the planned budget on new recruits now. Every day of waiting will just make things more complicated an expensive. It´s not like suddenly mid August a range of new, exciting and affordable players become available. We know exactly what is available and what is not.

And the reason why? Dorgu. I am absolutely convinced Dorgu is going to become a very special player as a left winger. He's already show towards the tale end of the season how effective he is and a couple of the players have been raving about him and saying how he'd kick on.
 
Amad, Mbeumo, Summerville and Cunha as our wing option with Mbeumo and Cunha can play as our no 9 if Sesko gets injured. I think it will be good attacking options. We already have Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko who are more goalscorer then you balance them out with Summerville and Amad who are more dribbler in tight space, which we will need these kind of wingers against the low block. It depends on the price, if Summerville is available for 40m, it's a good value to improve our attacking depth.
 
Still meh. I just don't see it.

And for the same money they want for Summerville you can get Manzambi, who can play all over the midfield... and it's a finger in the eye of Newcastle which is always a good thing, and money moving out of the country, which is good for health of the game.

He can play right across the midfield, and properly. He's just so much better with the ball than Summerville. He can give you pretty much everything Summerville can and also press and harry and win the ball high up the pitch. Whereas with Summerville.... you're just getting a winger. Watch him play, he's like Bruno, he just goes where he needs to at any given moment. It doesn't matter if that's central, wide, up front....

He slaps him into next week on the data and he wins on the eye test too.

Even if Cunha did play as a striker in the same way he did for Brazil in the World Cup then we’ve still got Rashford and Dorgu on the left so Summerville isn’t needed unless Rashford is moved on which seems unlikely now.
 
This deal must be dead now. We have spent nearly 100m of our budget on squad depth, and although he plays a completely different position, we can't spend what's left of our budget on another squad player. We need someone to really kick on our first 11 and be a difference maker

Any left wing reinforcement is dependent on Rashford leaving. Or so we have been told. Hopefully he's patient and can wait. Fingers crossed we can get rashford out somewhere even on loan. So we can bring someone like summerville in. There was a suggestion he has a fixed relation release clause fee, whether that's true, remains to be seen.

Think he's be a fantastic signing for us and fit in with he amounts of money we are spending per player this summer so far.

It's fits in with the amounts we are spending as they are squad players. As I've said, santos will surprise people and end up a good signing but we need players who will also really improve our starting line up next season. None of our signings so far do that and neither does this guy
 
I have zero interest in this Summerville signing plus we'll undoubtedly be stuck with Rashford who is currently better. If I was going to pick though I'd prefer Nusa from Leipzig. Maybe we can talk once midfield and LB are sorted.

If Rashford is actually staying, then I guess we're signing no wide forwards. Or any forwards full stop.

Forget about that last sentence, it won‘t happen.
 
I prefer Jesus Rodriguez tbh if this becomes a bidding war. He should be cheaper and I like his eye for a pass in the final third more. He has less pace in terms of electric linear speed but imo a lot more appropriate signing as the whole package and breaking up low blocks.
