All depends on whether we spend. There is absolutely no way we can win against a team that had a fantastic end of the season last year with this sorry bunch. 1-0 Sunderland provided we start with a similar 11. Worse, maybe.

If we buy at least 2 of Vidal, Hummels or Di Maria, I can see us cruising it and every fixture up until Everton, but if not - we might find ourselves lurking around 10th before the fixtures even get hard.

Clear as day how brilliant LvG is, forced his philosophy through at half time and at least got an equalizer, but when the team is objectively poor, not much a manager can do about it. This team is a 10th placed team for me, relegation side if you take out Rooney, De Gea and Mata. Januzaj's too young and it'll take another 2 years before Herrera peaks.

    Waiting defies logic.

Won't this be the first time we've had a full week in between games? LVG might actually be able get some more intense training done in the next couple of days since he won't have to prepare the players for the next match quite so soon. If we sign Vidal I don't see him starting, would take a long time for him to work up some fitness. Really the key to improving on today's result is getting some of our injured players back as well as drilling the new system into the players some more.

Feck knows what Manchester United will turn up. Easily could be more dropped points, not confident.

If Smalling starts, I will explode.
Who do you purpose we play instead?

Won't be an easy game, if we fail to add to the squad this week then I can see another defeat coming if we don't raise our performance.

Why are newbies allowed in the matchday forum? It's getting unbearable.

If Sunderland come out to play (and not defend), we'll be alright.

In my opinion, 3-5-2 needs bit more space to work.

Most of them bring pretty solid points. Conversely, some of the "oldies" spout absolute nonsense.
This. Hard to tell the difference most of the time.

Exactly, this is what we need. Forget the silly 3-5-2 system, and play with full backs and wingers/wide AM's. We need at least 1 DM with defensive qualities and 1 or 2 new wingers. And Rojo of course.

If Welbeck is not fit, I hope Januzaj gets the nod upfront. After seeing how Hernandez has failed in this system(for reason different from the one below), I am kind of concerned that Van Persie might not make it either due to his partner not having the pace or presence to draw defends away from him or complement a non mobile player like him. I would rather rush Welbeck back or play Januzaj from what I gather so far from pre-season and these players ability.

Hope we make a few addition, if not the continuance of Fletcher and Young in our first team.

    De Gea
    Jones - Smailling - Blackett
    Rafael - Carvalho/Fletcher - Herrera - Di Maria/Young
    Mata
    Rooney - Welbeck

The space behind our wing backs is killing us. Please LVG, form a system with 4 defenders in line, 2 CB's and 2 FB's.

Yup, I actually would like Powell to start.

Fletcher played embarrassingly badly this afternoon.
Fellaini, I cannot stand due to his elbows and just general, dirty style of play.
Cleverley did little in pre-season to show that he has improved upon his performances.

I think Blackett's emergance shows that a player doesn't necessarily have to be outstanding in the reserves to warrant a starting XI place. Powell has the raw ingridients, and with better players around him, would, IMO excel.

The only drawback is that he is not renowned for his ball winning ability, meaning that Herrera would have to be our ball-winning midfielder and thus perhaps meaning that the attacking side of his game (through balls, fast dribbling etc) is held back, and i'm not sure how we could solve that problem. And it is indeed a problem as currently he is our best CM by a country mile.

Either way, I would 100% rather see Powell partnering Herrera than any other of our midfield options. Although having said this, I hope that we have a couple of signings in the bag by then, or we really are in the sh*t.

forget Powell...he s too lazy to play in central midfield instead of fletcher. only position ican see Powell play in, is behind the two strikers where we are well stocked

This game can't come soon enough. I'm not confident but I think the performance will be better.

    Rafael----Jones---Blackett---James

    ---------Cleverley---Herrera--------

    Young---------Kagawa-------Januzaj

    ---------------Rooney--------------

A proper 2-3 moths to adapt to LvG's system, this team will storm 4th with ease. Too bad that unless we make it happen this week, it seems unlikely it'll ever happen at all.

Di Maria and Vidal are crucial, absolutely crucial.

Cuadrado is also an option, (if we fail to sign Di Maria)

Obviously we need to be a step or two up from that performance.

If LvG gets the players he wants then back to 3-5-2. We will look a completely different proposition by then hopefully.

If we stick with 3-5-2 I think Rafael will start at RWB and Januzaj will be up top with Rooney. Personally I'd think van Gaal must consider giving Kagawa the start over Mata.

Actually given that some players will be back, I'd like to see januzaj start.

    De gea
    Rafael jones smalling Blackett
    Fletcher Herrera
    Nani Mata Januzaj
    Rooney

Pace, trickery and creativity in there. Defensively weak but nothing we do will look defensively strong IMO. Blackett at left back will be one side more defensive then the other.

8 days until this game, it'd be great if we can get some signings sorted out before then but I highly doubt it.

Lets...lets just not embarrass ourselves again.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What we need right is an "Ozil Effect". Remember, this time last year we'd just beat Swansea, away, 1-4 and Arsenal lost at home (to who I'm not sure) and we were all laughing. They go out and sign a world class player and everything changed, well, at least for a few months! but my point still stands.

We need to go out, sign a marquee player. Vidal, di Maria, either one would lift the team, or maybe both! :p Fact of the matter is, we most def need a CM in the mould of Vidal.

As for the match, Sunderland won't defend and counter-attack, they'll come right at us, which will play into our advantage.

    1-3 to us.

Amazing how folks can turn so menstrual after one poor result.

Calm your tits. It won't be easy but even under Moyes the players did well away from home. On tour they proved that.

    1-3

Good point to bring up regarding how Arsenal turned things around. A quality signing would increase squad morale, but I believe we can still win without one. The slight change of Welbeck/Januzaj for Hernandez and perhaps Rafael for lingard will make our team perform much better than we did versus Swansea. Even an adacious move of Kagawa for Herrera might increase our urgency to make more passes down the middle. Albeit, the latter is not really necessary.

I reckon we'll smash them at SoL 5-0 , old ugly Gustavo Augusto Domíngues won't ever see it coming.

Edit: At least that was the case last season i think.
