Blanc also played quite a bit of his career as a 10 or midfield, which probably explains those numbers.
Yeah, but even as a defender later on he scored quite a few — he always was the only to watch for at the set pieces in the opponent's box.

Definitely. But I think he was quite offensive minded, even as a defender, which came from his formative days imo.

Lars Ricken scoring in a Champions League final.

A beautiful goal at that.

Basile Boli and Desailly the year before him.
I thought of Boli, but it turns out he was quite prolific at Marseille. Particularly so for a defender,.

27 in 163 is one every 6.04 games.
Nani at United was 40 in 230 for one every 5.75.

Not far off at all and if Nani popped up with a goal in a final I wouldn't be very surprised.

Edit: Seems Ricken had a similar career ratio too. 49 in 302 in the league, 7 in 42 in the CL, 6 in 24 UEFA Cup, 5 in 19 DFB-Pokal according to Transfermarkt.
Quite a decent goal threat is that if you're not an attacker. Probably good for 6-8 a season in all comps.

Nayim used to be a substitute in Zaragoza, who had a very good team with people like Santi Aragón, Pardeza, Poyet and Esnaider, and coming off the bench scored this goal in the Cup final against Arsenal,in the Cup winners cup

Copa del Rey final 1995. Deportivo-Valencia at the Bernabéu.
The year before Deportivo had lost the league against Valencia in the last minute so there were many nerves to lose another chance against them.
Manjarín scores first and Mijatovic draws in the second half
1-1 and begins a tremendous hail that suspends the game.
Some days later the fans return to Madrid to see 10 minutes, and Alfredo Santaelena, a very limited striker -that spent a lot of time in the bench among Atleti,Depor and Sevilla- scores the most important goal in the history of the club

Ramires goal against Barcelona in the 11/12 semifinal of the CL, where Chelsea went on to win it. Oh and it was a great goal too. Torres scored in that game as well.

Owen Hargreaves winning free kick against Arsenal. His second and last United goal.
