Tactical lineups post-Amorim

I think we know how Carrick will line up, assuming he gets announced:

4231 with the traditional one goes, one stays FB joining the attack to add width. It sounds like his Boro team people thought were a bit boring i.e. possession but that's probably what we need as a team right now, most of our issues comes from careless play and giving the ball away in silly situations.

My left field idea is he will end up playing Bruno as our 6 for the rest of this season - he will be the first coach to get Bruno playing in a more controlled and accurate way. Ugarte will then take on the Fred under Ragnick role of being way more advanced and pressing like a maniac.

Why in gods name do you want Mount on the left? He essentially offers nothing in these types of conventional set ups. I'd put BM on the left and Sesko up top. I'd also take out Martinez for Heaven, Martinez is brutally overrated as a defender these days.

I want to see Mbeumo up front with Bruno at no.10 playing in through balls.

I would much rather have Mount on the left than Cunha in current form, and I’m not even a Mount fan.

So many people want to pair Mainoo and Casemiro in a midfield double pivot, against City! You're all insane!

I guess Carrick won't do it but I'd try Casemiro and Martinez in midfield. 4-2-3-1, not sitting too deep but compact and direct, freeing Bruno and trying to launch Sesko behind the defenders. With City and Arsenal next I think it could be justified to get a bit conservative.

It's also the combination of having 5 CBs for 2 spots while our midfield is so devoid of any aggression and dynamism, fully relying on a 33 yo Casemiro in terms of defensive balance. Mainoo coming from the bench if we need more risk in the second half.

The truth is this season we are creating more, but it's at the expense of being easier to play through and conceding a good number of chances too. Fernandes at the base of midfield was always a calamitous plan, and as much as he tries he doesn't have the positioning nor the composure to operate deeper. I'd move the guy higher where he is differential and a ball loss is less critical, building a more industrial midfield until the summer window.

The rest, Amad or Mbeumo on the right, who plays on the left, etc. I'm a bit indifferent. Just don't play Dalot and we'll be fine.

I think the top 3 of our most creative players in the team is Amad, Mbeumo and Bruno. We need to play them together to increase the possibility to create quality chances and scoring goals. Amad plays as RW because his best asset is dribbling. Mbeumo plays as the second striker like what he did in his early years at Brentford alongside Toney because his best asset is scoring goals, bring others into play, his positioning in the box. Bruno either plays as left wide midfielder like wide playmaker or no 8 in 2 man midfield because he is the only midfielder in our team who can passes breaking into lines (hence why Amorim played him in the double pivot).

If Bruno plays as left wide midfielder, Dorgu as left back can provide the width by overlapping. If Bruno plays as no 8 in 2 man midfield, we can play Cunha as inside forward or play Dorgu as traditional left winger like how Fletcher used him against burnley.

Formation is fluid. Off the ball, 4231 normally defend like 442. When on the ball, the formation will change depends on how many players the manager/coach wants to have at the back during the build up phase, the set up can be tweaked to suits the personnel but the numbers don’t change.

Defensive Line-Up (4-2-3-1):

Lammens

Mazraoui - De Ligt - Martinez - Shaw

Casemiro - Ugarte

Amad - Bruno - Cunha

Mbuemo

Attacking Line-Up (4-3-2-1):

Lammens

Mazraoui - De Ligt - Martinez - Shaw

Amad - Casemiro - Bruno

Mbuemo - Cunha

Sesko

Problem I see is that all our midfield combinations we could possibly field are all weak as hell so you can’t really trust any combination of 2 of them. If you were then you’d need 3 at the back but then that brings the issue of Notting having wingbacks.

So there isn’t really a set formation that suits our group of players.

If it’s a back 4 then surely the best 4 are , Maz,DeLigt,Martinez,Shaw.

Maybe a midfield 3 but then we saw this combo under ETH and it had more men walking through it than a Bonnie Blu record attempt. Bruno, Cas, Mainoo.

Maybe put Bruno in the front 3 in some sort of free role and move Mount in his place as he has a more structured passing game and a bit more defensiveness about him.

No matter what way we want to try and look at it we need a new midfield. Needs 3 or 4

given how useless our full / wing backs are i think it most appropriate to forget about those positions and go for a glorious 2-2-6 formation.

I'm going 442, I'm sick of watching our strikers struggle on their own against 2 or 3 centre halves.

This is how I would lineup with everyone fit:

---------------------- Lammens ------------------
Mazraoui - De Ligt - Martinez - Dorgu
-------------- Casemiro - Mainoo ------------
----------- Amad - Bruno - Cunha ----------
---------------------- Sesko ------------------------

Mbeumo not making the first team is perhaps a bit controversial, but he's the first name on the sub sheet. The front 4 will rotate heavily either way, so he'll feature every game. And when there are injuries, obviously.

Amad simply must play. He's in form, he's our best dribbler and he has crazy potential. I also think it's a mistake to take off Sesko now that he seems to be finding his mojo. But if Mbeumo can be effective on the left, then I might be in favor of taking Cunha out.

Thank god I'm not in charge  Not knocking Sesko, but Mbeumo has been great up front.
