Talk of The Devils Podcast

I know exactly what you mean. He often forgets to answer any question asked. He also has something every few weeks where he repeats something for weeks on end, not to mention his well respected coach mates which irritates the hell out me.

I sometimes wonder why I listen, think there's only Laurie that I like to listen to. Carl Anka's analysis reminds me of the levels we got from Andy Townsend Tactical Truck.
Ankas analysis has a real whiff of a twitter tactico. There's such fervor in how he delivers it, as if there's no other explanation because they've thought long and hard about it.

Seems like a nice guy though and a genuine fan.

I find it great, listen pretty much every episode. I wouldn't say there are any of them that really grate at me. For United podcasts it's only really NQAT that comes close for me.

Is NQAT the one where they just swear all the time?

Yeah it reminds of the time I was in Riga, Latvia at a café and who should I see there but Tom Howardson who worked a steward in the Stretford Paddock for 2 months in 1978.
Well played

I think it’s great - Ian Irving does a great job presenting and then the other 3 come at it from pretty different angles, so they compliment each other really well.

As others have said - this and NQAT are by far the best United podcasts out there

Only when Dan is on. It his the weirdest vibe of guests that pod. Some proper clueless drips, but the host is excellent.
I listened to one and they were just swearing like crazy and chatting absolute rubbish. Turned off and never returned.

The chit chat can be excruciating. I quite like the un-polished nature of it though, so got to take the rough

Not usually, although they are a slight bit less professional than TOTD. It was originally Rantcast years and years ago and they changed the name as they didn't want to be seen as negative.

They try to be balanced in their criticism and it's not a load of lads screaming and shouting at a mic. Usually just 1 guest so a bit easier of a flow for me. I don't rate their tactics pod at all though by the same people. (Still listen to it for some reason )

I used to be a weekly listener but I drifted away around the time they started on YouTube (not because they were now on YT, think it was more a coincidence).

Similar to you, Laurie was the main guy I’d want to listen to for genuine insight. I quite like Carl in small doses and Ian the presenter is good but I think slowly had enough of Andy’s smug monologues and stories of yesteryear. The banter was also a bit too vanilla for me, just joking about Maltesers, cocktails and Laurie’s hair…

I don’t have loads of time to listen to podcasts these days so I prefer chucking Stratford Paddock on in the background instead, as it’s generally a good mix of decent analysis and debates with some genuinely quite funny banter/moments. Both Laurie and Carl make regular appearances on there too so I don’t feel like I’ve lost anything by no longer listening to TOTD.

Andy I really love his dedication to United. He just lives and breathes United.

I find the dynamic between the four of them to be pretty enjoyable. I do find Mitten to be a little insufferable though. His anecdotes are often interesting and enjoyable to listen to, but his tendency to avoid answering questions properly, beating over your head as a listener what a good journalist is and does, how much he hates the transfer window, how well connected he is etc. gets a little boring quite quickly. I don't know that I would mind it so much if it was a separate podcast, but it just doesn't add much insight into the actual analysis of the team (save for certain instances like the discussions of ticket prices, fan culture etc.).

I quite enjoy those parts

I do think waiting to record in a studio for youtube is hurting the show. Good or bad result I always enjoyed them reacting sitting in the stadium straight after the game

Karl, Andy and Ian were at the ground Laurie was at home with his Dad, I mean outside of podcasts and such they all have a life outside of their jobs

They have shifted away from it for a while

It kills me when Ed doesn’t really understand a joke that Dan makes and doesn’t know what to say. You can tell they’d never be mates outside of the show.

Top red detected.

He's obviously a Utd fan, how he came to become one can take different forms from one person to another. He says it's since 1996 and the FA Cup, and yeah he's not a Mancunian and probably is a fan in a way that's different to what some think a fan should be, but who cares? He brings something different and interesting to the pod, can be annoying at times with certain obsessions he has, but he's a genuine professional and puts in the work for whatever he comes up with.

Something different and interesting? Really? I unfortunately caught a glimpse of a video where he was having a moan at Fergie being happy we won the derby. What an absolute cretin.

Quite like him as a bloke - digging him out for uber supporter reasons yep, not personal .

Always used to listen but when i changed jobs i found it hard to listen to podcasts, so only on rare occasions will i remember to give it a listen.

Carl, outside of football, i could really get on with him and think he is a genuine fan, but i find his analysis and style of journalism way too pretentious. Very "what no one else can see but that I've become astutely aware of is...." and that just annoys me. Andy is extremely likeable and a well travelled united nerd, i like the stories. I used to like Laurie until i saw his hair (just kidding).

On NQAT, always used to listen when Paul was on but I stopped when he left as it wasn't the same.

100% - I think he talks sense most of the time but it does come across like he thinks he knows more than the average fan, which is probably true but also can sound a bit grating

Anka suggesting Lukaku as a backup striker here can only be engagement farming. No one in their right mind would fancy that.

Yeah that’s a terrible take. What did the others say in response to it? If there’s one thing I can say I dislike about the pod is that there’s a tendency to just accept each others views, most of the time anyways.

Yeah, funnily enough I think Anka is the one who does sometimes pushes back. I think there was a silence of disapproval. But a wild take nonetheless.

I’d like to hear the context of that. crazy suggestion

It was when they were talking about United associated players at the World Cup.

Edit: now I remember, Critchley talked about his terrible game against Croatia. That was his “nah, mate”.

Anka is a performance art piece of pretending to be a Utd fan, his whole routine rings as so painfully false to me.

Is his snug overly-enunciated self-important schtick getting worse or am I just sick to death if it?

He also often mangles the pronunciation of some words by trying to sound fancy but he hasn't a clue and it's so obviously put on. Like instead of saying "at an impasse", he said "at impass-ay", as if it was French, but the doesn't speak French and the word is pronounced pretty much the same in both languages.

I don't mind him, but his inability to not make a noise after every person speaks on the recent Athletic FC World Cup XI podcast is something else. It's like he cannot let someone say a player's name without him having to make a noise to indicate to the world that he also knew about that footballer too. Just relax man.

The trouble with Anka is he seems to gravitate towards tactics and player evaluations, as opposed to Mitten, Critchley, and Whitwell, who are more focused on proper behind the scenes journo work about finances, transfers, and various other issues.

Anka simply has no credibility when it comes to evaluating players. If Rio or Rooney were to do it then great, but it just doesn't come off as vaguely credible when Anka tries it (his latest Ederson piece being a prime example). The same can be said of Howson. The latter two should stick to punditry and leave player evaluations and tactics to the pros.

I like this podcast but Anka’s manufactured breezy air is tiresome in the extreme. Mitten, well-respected figure though he might be, isn’t the easiest to listen to either

When I saw this bumped, I was going to say the same thing about Anka. He’s so unbearable on times. Thinks he’s some master tactician and has an arrogant tone to him.

It feels like everytime Mitten speaks, no matter what the subject, it ends with his utter disdain for United fans. His contempt for fickle United fans who are interested in all the wrong things, while he's interested in all the right things, is nauseating. It has made the podcast very difficult to listen to.

This is the only podcast I’ll endure him on . Whenever I see he’s on other podcasts like Totally Football I give it a miss.

He lacks quite a bit of self-awareness

Mitten does my head in now. Sanctimonious bloke who proper ironically now tows the party line from Utd after decades as a Fanzine first man - he is loving his new prominent access, inevitable I suppose.

Surely if you dislike it so much don’t watch it - I like the blend and find it one of the better UTD pods
