Does the new setup still work with the Tapatalk app? Right now I can't connect, is this temporary or permanent?

I imagine there is probably some kind of plugin Niall will have to install to make it work at a later time.

I don't know why you'd need it now. The new forum looks fantastic on my phone whereas the previous one was quite awkward.

You lads on android or iOs?

The forum was alright on my iphone but pretty poor on my SGS3. This new one looks great on my Samsung though.

It's certainly easier browsing this site in chrome on my phone than the older site. Tapatalk would be nice though.

I've always meant to check out tapatalk and this thread pushed me to do so. Looks great for other forums. Thanks for looking into doing this. Love xenforo so far. Looks like an excellent choice.

Am I not supposed to use it yet? Sorry if that was the case since I'm typing this using tapatalk.

Tapatalk is partially working I believe. Abbsta was able to post it seems, can people let me know what is and isn't working with it? AFAIK push notifications and conversations aren't working.

Nice one Niall. I've sent a convo earlier to gb to which he hasn't replied but it's reflected on here. I'm using v4 of the app.

Is there a free version of tapatalk? And if not is it worth getting the latest version of tapatalk or will the cheaper original version do?

Does anyone know how to add site to tapatalk? I deleted the old one accidentally, and it doesn't simply let me type in the URL. And if I search for "redcafe.net", it comes back with nothing.

Is anyone else having the problem on tapatalk where in every page of threads it's putting two blank posts at the top and the actual top post is starting at no3?

I'll post a screenshot if I can figure out how to.

Using tapatalk here to post this and I don't have this problem. I'm using v4 if that helps.

Mines working fine irwin, might be an issue that only effects android users.

Downloaded it. It's a pile of cock. I much prefer using the desktop site on my phone. Bit then, mine is a big screen phone so it looks good anyway.

Since my Galaxy S3 i9300 has updated to JB 4.1.2 I've been experiencing crippling problems using websites which involve active text boxes; a not uncommon but as yet unresolved issue whereby the cursor flicks all over the place mid-typing, inputting predicted words randomly in the middle of previously written material.

For this reason I've converted to Tapatalk and so far find it really convenient.

I've two issues though:

The first is that Tapatalk doesn't discriminate between from which forums it chooses to list on the 'latest' section of posts; it shows posts from the Entertainment forum amongst Manchester United and Transfer forum posts etc. This is an annoying trait since it gives a rather prominent preview of said posts which means I'm getting spoilers for movies, games and shows all over my screen every time I try to use the latest post function, a function which otherwise is really useful (I've only been using the app for a day and have already inadvertently found out how Superman ends). Does anyone know if posts from the Entertainment forum can be excluded from this list? The options inside the Tapatalk app are not very extensive to say the least. Perhaps if this is an issue for more people then it can be addressed at the caf end?

The other issue is occasional posts being listed as being made on 01/01/1970 as in the following pic:

Obviously this isn't anything major and doesn't disrupt the user experience at all really, but it could be indicative of a deeper lying problem which might need attention. Has anyone else experienced this? Try viewing the 'Long Summer' thread pictured above and report the date of the OP being shown through your own apps.

It might be worth you taking some time to get accustomed with Tapatalk. It doesn't seem a particularly endearing way to view the caf upon first sight, you lose the graphics and the feel of the place to an extent; but once you get over that you might find the positives outweighing the negatives.

Pros:
  • It's fast, very fast.
  • There are no awkward controls as are inherent in Desktop browsing on mobiles.
  • Videos and Pics are handled differently; more akin to Facebook app than standard browser embeds.
  • You can upload pics right from your phone's gallery.
  • Text entry is much smoother and phone friendly, more like your messaging apps than standard, often clunky browser methods.
  • It saves a hell of the lot of battery. browsers are notorious battery hogs; not so with Tapatalk, especially using dark-mode which looks better anyway.
  • It integrates with all your other apps better than browsers do.
  • Fundamentally it functions differently to a browser; Tapatalk is designed purely for forum viewing, and this specialisation is apparent in the user experience.
  • You can save unfinished posts to come back to later before posting.

Cons:
  • It doesn't look like the caf.
  • The smileys are different. There's no green smiley; it just says :lol
  • Some of the formatting fails to translate perfectly
  • The Tapatalk icon looks ugly
  • There are no details under member names in posts: post count, tagline etc.
  • Quotes don't look as obvious; it takes to bit of getting used to.
  • The settings seem rather limited.
  • You have to pay for new colour schemes.

I'm sure others could add to each of these lists, but the above is my experience from using the app over the last couple of days + for a while when it first came to oldcaf. Overall I'd say that the cons for the most part can be forgotten about by simply getting used to a different way of viewing this caf; more issues of style rather substance - whereas the pros are genuinely useful features, especially so things like the battery saving, the speed and the better integration with other apps and keyboards.

In short: Tapatalk is good, yo.
