Manchester United shirt sponsor TeamViewer wants to review £235m deal

A stakeholder in the company slammed the sponsorship arrangement TeamViewer has with Man United and the firm has said it would like to 'amend the existing contract'

Re-negotiating the deal will be a pressing concern for TeamViewer. Currently, the deal is worth £47m per year to United, yet the German company's profits are reportedly only £43.5m.

United are under no obligation to change their current agreement with TeamViewer due to their shirt sponsor being contractually obliged to fulfill the deal. However, should TeamViewer eventually be unable to pay what is owed, the Reds could be left without a shirt sponsor

Seems like we could defend this under the tough titty, bird shitty defence

Great timing just when most of the world is in recession. Team Viewer have learnt well from the scam artists they’ve empowered.

It does seem like the crack negotiating unit at TeamViewer have gotten this one badly wrong.

A remote access app as a shirt sponsor was always weird.

Seems like an issue on their end, where they negotiated a deal that ended up being more than they could (?Should) be spending on a deal like this?

How was this deal approved by their board if they couldn’t afford it?

In fairness, woodyed@muf.com is a tempting little filly of an email address. You’d best believe I’m clicking that without missing a beat. So to speak.

If they're struggling there will be some sort of exit clause that will see them pay a penalty to exit early and we get to negotiate with a new sponsor.

Maybe twitter is interested? Elon did show interest in us at one point

They sound like a bunch of amateurs. Who the hell signs off on a sponsorship deal where they’re paying more on a yearly basis than they’re generating in profits?

oh fecking hell. i don’t think i’m getting that 3 million i was promised.

Will we get another sponsor who can at least match whatever TeamViewer were giving us? I reckon the negative press recently with the whole Ronaldo debacle doesn't help things.

We should do a deal with them - pay us 1/2 years of the sponsorship deal in a lump sum and we'll find someone else.

The TeamViewer stock has sharply fallen since they signed the deal. Probably can't afford it.
Stock price has nothing (directly) to do with company being to afford it or not. It might be an indicator of poor company outlook but the whole stock market has been down in dumps for months.

TeamViewer are just one of many businesses who were artificially inflated in value and revenue generation during the pandemic (see Pelaton, Netflix etc as other examples). They are going through a correction as people move gradually back to office work.

They probably believed their prior revenue numbers that allowed them to afford this sponsorship were sustainable. Clearly the global economic downturn and the over inflated values of tech companies during the pandemic is impacting them now.

Good riddance. Hated seeing their shitty name on the kit anyway.

Ronaldo gave them their money's worth and more with his selfish ass all over the net and even NY due to his tantrums.

I was quite shocked to see their name on the shirt. I associate it with phone scamming, although I know it's a reputable company.

The assumption is that the amount you spend on a sponsorship is always less than the amount you generate from the sponsorship. I’m sure United told them if they spend £45m a year they’ll make £100m+ a year extra just from association to a global brand, reaching an audience of over a billion, etc.

I’m sure some of the board were sceptical of the idea and bemused by the supposed evidence for it. But if all these other companies are doing it then it must make sense. A lot of marketing investment is like that and sponsorship is particularly bad for it. People really don’t know if it’s a good idea.

Not sure it's bad for a shirt sponsor, it's massive exposure. Bad PR is better than no PR

Best of luck trying to get out of a deal with the Glazer family

The company behind the software most commonly used to scam the elderly out of their life savings didn’t think this through at all.

They should blame vaccine companies for containing the pandemic so quickly

Arent profits reported after expenses? i mean these ca 43 mil is what's left after they pay to us. 1:1 is still a terrible ratio buyt i think they can affrod it.

Maybe we should spam Elon' Twitter. Just need him to be drunk on one of those days.
