7 or 7.5 out of 10 (that would probably be a B-).
We have a Frankenstein squad, so all things considered, he did as well as you can expect. We got 75 points (second best post SAF), got third place and won a Cup, albeit the least important cup (but then we had not won anything in 6 years). If someone offered this to me last summer, I would have been very happy with that.
On the other hand, there were also quite many negatives. We got humiliated again and again and again, with Liverpool giving us the biggest beating in what, a century or so. The football quality for the most part, was dire, no better than under Ole or Jose. Our attack was absolutely terrible. And while he did a great job in removing Ronaldo and Maguire, it was a bit annoying how he didn’t give more minutes to Pellestri and some other youngsters but instead continued playing Antony and Sancho who are extremely mediocre players. The obsession to play Weghorst as much as possible, easily the worst striker in the league, was also baffling.
While in a normal world, he shouldn’t be judged in signings, unfortunately at United, the manager is in charge of that. I think that the signings were not good. Antony looks almost a 100m wasted, Malacia is terrible and not even an upgrade in Telles. Eriksen was a good free signing. Casemiro is brilliant but by the time we might challenge he will be past it so probably not money spent well. And I really disagree with Caf here, I think that Martinez is not that good. He has passion so United fans overrate him as hell, but he is essentially a good squad player in a title winning team, not a starter. For the money spent on him, you expect a Vidic, not a Heinze. And I think he is more a Heinze than a Vidic. Sabitzer barely played, and Weghorst is the worst regular United player I have seen in my time. So overall, I would say for 230m that we spent, we didn’t improve the squad as much.
Anyway, he has reached all the expectations, and happy to see what he does next season.
