That’s insane.

Side side note. I once had a summer job as a porter in fancy private hospital in Dublin. When I was doing nights I took great pleasure in logging onto the computer at front desk and seeing exactly how much Bono had been charged for some panadol and wound dressings. Very long time ago. GDPR wasn’t a thing, obviously!
I worked in Santry Sports Surgery for a few years and it was expensive but nothing like 11k for a 4 fecking hour visit and a scan.

Ha. No. If you refuse to pay hospital bills the hospital will eventually send your bill to debt collection, in which you can be sued to have your wages garnished... which means they’ll get a court order to take to your employer to just start pulling the money out of your paycheck. Oh, and they’ll wreck your credit score, too.

Here’s a nice article about how it from The Atlantic:https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/08/medical-bill-debt-collection/596914/

The place I worked was nowhere near US prices either. Think it was about a quid for a panadol and a few quid for the dressing.

Santry Sports Clinic is a great place. Did a bang up job relocating a tendon in my ankle. Good as new three years later.

That's all they've known. When you have limited direct knowledge about the rest of the world, the media can convince you that it is communism.

It is also so much freaking work to just figure things out. When I did my back in I needed an MRI to see the damage. Orthopedist referred me to UAB for my MRI, but I would need to wait a week and it would be $500 to $750 out of pocket. Thankfully (?) I was in enough pain that I needed an answer immediately, so I took the time to research my PPO network and found a walk in MRI clinic 10 minutes from the orthopedist that was in network. Got an immediate appointment and was in and out in an hour. Total cost was $0. I am not sure if it was laziness or kickbacks driving the doc's suggestion, but it would have also cost me major money. Same guy wanted to cut me open once he got the MRI results, but I found another doc who wanted to pursue PT and exercise. Haven't had a flare up since. Maybe he was just an ass?

As an aside: When our German Shepherd herniated a disc in her back the entire cost of vet visit/x-ray/MRI (on a human machine that was time shared between vet school and private human clinic)/surgery (2 vets surgeons, anesthesiologist, and 4 vet students)/recovery/ meds was $2500. The cost of that MRI above without insurance? $3500. Insane.

1) A large enough number of voting Americans think that Western Europeans / Canadians die in waiting lines for treatment, that treatment in Western Europe / Canada is sub-standard, and that doing anything other than a pay for treatment model is one more step down the "slippery slope to communism"

2) They are screwed or are most likely on Medicaid, assuming they are below the income threshold for the service.

What really causes you to want to put your head through a wall is when a GOP voting rural white poor person on Medicaid tells you that Medicare for All is socialism and would basically make us the Soviet Union or PR of China.

Which, depending on the state, can be so low that no one actually can be below it. That is the insidious reason many red states (remember, pro life!) refuse medicare expansion.

Keep in mind, Medicaid is government subsidized insurance for poor people. These people are typically also on Social Security.

But what Bernie proposed is straight out of the Soviet Union.

And they don’t see the irony

So there was a school shooting in Texas yesterday. The kid’s parents offered this as defense for him shooting up the school…

The family of Texas school shooting suspect Timothy George Simkins claims the 18-year-old was bullied, repeatedly robbed and scared of going to school, reported The Dallas Morning News.

At least four people were injured when Simkins allegedly opened fire at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

Simpkins fled the scene of the shooting. However, he later turned himself in with an attorney. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and his bond is currently set at $75,000.

His cousin Cint Wheat wrote on Facebook that "at the end of the day my lil cousin was bullied" and that "he not no bad kid."

Kid's already bonded out. $75K seemed a tad low for multiple counts of AA with a deadly weapon, but I could be wrong.

Great name though - Cint Wheat.

Never mind GDPR, that must have violated a handful of laws surely? Even in the distant past of your fair youth.

Except he isn’t white
Yeah saw that. Also saw that GQP Twitter is equating him and their hero Kylie Rittenhouse. Insanity.

edit: equating is the wrong word. The tweets I saw were complaint this kid got a low bail while KR, who “did nothing wrong” is getting persecuted.

Wtf?

That is absolutely sickening. What is wrong with these people? I have a 7 year old, the thought of him spending a single night in a jail - for any reason - is unconscionable.

Fringe reference, Midnight Mass might have the right idea about good church goers...

question regarding the "all government programs are communism" folks. Do they actually believe that the US is the only capitalist state on the planet?

Or is simply a matter that they are so uneducated and misinformed they have no idea what the rest of the world is like outside a state/country border?

This country has the dumbest fecking people I have ever come across in my life. You wouldn't believe the stupid shit they say or the lack of basic knowledge on history, geography, etc. On show.
It's fecking shocking to be honest.

Those same folks would lose their shit if you removed the government programs they use. You drive through dirt poor Alabama, where 90% of the people are probably on Gov't assistance, and you will see Trump flags flying everywhere. They are not against Gov't programs, just "those people" having access to them.

Man, the local neighborhood apps are often the worst. You have people whining about any taxes or giving any government any money but then when it comes to the homeless they keep complaining the government can't/won't do anything. They want lowest possible taxes but then want governments to somehow magically have the resources to deal with every problem. Then when challenged, about how their laissez-faire candidate that wants to just cut taxes and let the free market run wild will solve problems like the homeless they just fall back on "well Democrats can't do it" or more often they just go silent.

@WPMUFC this is really the effects of 30-40 years of conservative propaganda machines, talk radio, and now Youtube basement experts influencing entire generations of people that can't really critically think.
