Whether or not he really did it on an International scale is up for debate really, but you only have to read the quotes about him from people in the game to appreciate how highly rated he was on that scale. It was just a real pleasure to have been able or watch him play every week. His passing ability was obviously second to none but it takes real, real quality to have the ability and authority to control the tempo of the game in the way he could. His positional play was absolutely superb but mentally he was always a few passes ahead of whoever he was up against in the middle.
