Television The Boys

the spoilers for e7 have been out for a while, the Gen V bunch will make an appearance but basically peripheral to the story
Then there's only one way it can go down
Soldier Boy has some element of a redemption arc and takes the powers away from Homelander.

Almost hoping for a de-powered Butcher vs Homelander showdown. The idea of Homelander becoming a regular Joe with his powers stripped away from him feels poetic.

They don't really have the excuse of GoT and source material either. It's all there to work from. Also, it's the biggest show on baldy Bezos' platform so the money is surely there if they needed it.

The toilet humour is so overdone at this point that my reaction to the guy at the start powerhosing blood from his arse was...
The show has never really followed the source material though.

And, having read quite a bit of said source material, let me tell you, the show has generally been waaaaay better for it.

I do agree that this season the writing quality has taken a sharp turn downward though. Almost lazy.

Season 5 episode 7

A sad end for Frenchie, but... A bit dissappointing too. Why the hell did Annie turn Marie away when we finally saw her? Obviously people are dying. She can bring them back. I never thought she could beat Homelander but if you have people that you care about surely you'd want to be able to help them. I get it from the writers perspective they probably want deaths to be final in the final season but then you shouldnt have written Marie to have that power. Its stupid really and shows that they were just trying to cash in on the franchise with another show and didnt have a full plan for the 2nd show. Yes the virus came from the show, but the characters didnt matter and the main character's main power was sidelined when it would have solved some of their issues.

Not sure exactly how Frenchie died, whether it was just the radiation or if Homelander caused the wound that ultimately killed him. If it was just the radiation then he did it to himself, granted if he didnt Homelander would likely have tortured him to get info on Sage.. I guess Frenchie chose to hurt himself and Homelander as he couldnt hurt just Homelander in that situation even though he knew Homelander would eventually shrug it off. A last act of defiance as he died.

We knew that they were never going to be able to land this season effectively. Too many middling to mediocre episodes. Waiting till the last minute to resolve things that needed to be resolved. Nearly every main character and support character still alive. Which means the finale has so much to do already.

The Gen V kids should have featured more imo. They had 2 seasons of setup and they would have made more sense than all the time they spent setting up Soldier boys show and some of the filler.

Every scene with the Deep now was a complete waste of time. It felt like running in place they could have killed him in place of A train episode 1 and let A train make it to now. A train at least had more character development, a better storyline. Him surviving longer and showing us more actual saves and heroic side would have gotten far more mileage than Deep. And that is just the writing.

If the inevitable happens and Deep gets it from the sea creatures in the finale it's almost impossible to be satisfying at this point it would be just paint by numbers.

Soldier Boy back on Ice I would imagine that is the end of him this series. Putting him back in there only to be taken out again for the finale would be dumb.

It's like the writers came up with that character so that only one person on the show was responsible for any actual thinking. Every other character's boneheaded choices can be chalked off to them trusting Sage and/or not listening to Sage.
Homelander was smarter than Sage in the previous episode purely with the medical bracelet tracking. Something that the super brain somehow didn't spot or think would be a problem.

The arse sniffing was the worst 5 minutes of tv I have ever seen. It probably wasn't 5 minutes but it seemed to last for ever.
I had forgotten. If this was 3 seasons ago done for random weirdness fine. But the penultimate episode of a 5 season show? That was stupid. Instead of Deep being stupid on the beach he could have been in there at least working for Homelander. Him dying in there would have been better at least its a character we have been with since the beginning.

Honestly the entire focus group idea was dumb for the second to last episode. It dragged, it had too many coincidences. How everyone made it out of there alive except phony catwoman and fake wolverine was a waste.

Its kind of beating a dead horse to talk about the writing failures but they had potential to work with. They had set up they could have followed and characters they could have used better to get to a better creative place.

Not the worst episode in the season but still too many moments of pointless drifting.

Starlight is hilariously weak. I always wonder what the point in her actually is as a character.

Hang on, how did Butcher and Hughie get there minutes after Homelander left? The man flies at jet speeds!

I'm genuinely wondering how they managed to feck everything up.

Butcher's powers seem completely underwhelming, and his descent into being the uber cnut has been kept on a leash. Soldier Boy keeps flip flopping. Sage is a dumb person's idea of what a smart person would do (oh, I knew that would happen etc). This is supposedly a country where the extremists are in charge and yet outside of the interment camps it's just daily life (which I get but that's what I mean, they're not really hitting that point home).

Season 4 was far from perfect but it set up the propaganda arc beautifully. And then when they pivoted to this mad Homelander story I was thinking "ok, cool, roll with it." But they've rolled with feck all. They've just dipped their toes into new narratives in the final season without committing. And it's fecking shite.

It's like GoT. A rubbish penultimate season but at least they got their ducks in a row, only to completely arse it up.

I think they did it so much better in the early seasons though. The Deep with freeing the dolphin only for it to fly through the windscreen right into the path of a lorry, sending the speed boat through the whale, or the Antman guy who blew up inside some guy's d!ck. They all had build up and delivery.

Yeah the Deep's ending there was a let down, he could have gone out in a blaze of glory.

So in the penultimate episode of the entire show we get treated to yet another "you lot stay here whilst we go off and do this thing" fetch quest which amounts to sweet fa.

The Deep stuff was pretty poor if that's how he goes out even if it was quite fitting.

And as for the death at the end, well you know that a show is running on fumes when you longer care...and that's if whatsherface doesn't bring him back next week anyway.

Yeah just get it wrapped up now. It's boring.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're keeping him as a wildcard for any future spin offs since he's quite popular.

Or he gets fed to piranhas next week. Actually, since it's The Boys, a Great White or a Sperm Whale will probably rape him.

I’m not sure the Deep deserves to go out in a blaze of glory. He might even end up killing himself, a joke on land and hated in the sea.

I did laugh at him just walking back inside.

Also, the cat and dog duo are pretty shit. You'd think they'd have more impressive supes to be in Homelander's inner circle.

Oh Father has been a small highlight this season though. He's entertaining.

I think it's mainly context. In and of itself it wasn't actually a bad episode, but for the penultimate episode of the final ever season, it failed on just about every level. It wouldn't have felt out of place as a midway point in season 4.
Yeh i suppose in that context i understand, but it wasnt a 1/10. I didnt find frenchie storyline that interesting, i prefer kimiko when shes mute, just think it adds more character to the character then when she talks

It's quite funny how the wrote off the entire Gen V spinoff plot in about 30 seconds
Unsure - if this is the case I don't know why they'd give MM the line that "Marie is the chosen one to defeat Homelander or some shit" in the episode before the show wraps up.

Sage is just such an annoying, shit character. Where's all her 4-d chess moves that she thinks she's making? It's like playing werewolf with fecking @hellhunter, all talk and no action!

Not sure that setting up a Soldier Boy show by making him a far worse and less interesting character than he was in season 3 is a winning tactic either.

Him still being the best thing about the show says a lot.

That was also such an odd decision. What did she say that she couldn’t converse in sign language that required that change? It changed nothing except for making the character less unique. Maybe the actress demanded it? Who knows. Or was it the way to show that she has worked through her issues and, henceforth, is ready for the happy ending that she’s never going to get…

Unexplainable, really.

Bringing Soulja Boi back just to spend the season promoting his prequel and then fecking him off for the finale. Sound

Say what you want about Sage, but I can fecking relate to her master plan being left the feck alone and wanting to be in front of the television chilling.

How do I get that?

So much feckery in the show.

Bring up Ryan, break him down and forget about him.

Bring up Marie. Break her down and forget about her. And all the other Gen Z characters, mind.

Bring up Starlight in a finale season where she looks to level up on power. Break her down as she fannies about in filler episodes and can't even beat a jobber supe clean.

This entire season has literally been filler bollocks and / or adverts for the prequel. It's done the complete opposite in effect. I will actively avoid that shite for ruining the final season.
