Todays match for me : Barnsley - Fulham

Barnsley: Sahin-Radlinger - Cavare, Andersen, Diaby, Sibbick - Mowatt, Thomas, McGeehan, Bähre - Willks and Woodrow

Fulham: Betinelli - Bryan, LeMarchand, Mawson, Odoy - McDonald, Johansen, Cairney - Cavaleiro, Mitrovic, Kamara

The biggest favourite for promotion, against the perhaps biggest favourite to be relegated. Barnsley ended 2nd behind Luton in League 1 but have since lost their goalkeeper Adam Davies to Stoke, and both their central defenders Liam Lindsay (also to Stoke) and Ethan Pinnock to Brentford. Barnsley is probably the most inexperienced side in the League, and I don't think any of the outfield players starting today has turned 25.

A short presentation of the Barnsley-side starting today:

New goalkeeper is Samuel Sahin-Radlinger which I know better than most people, because he played last season on loan to my favourite Norwegian side Brann. Easily summarized - superb with the ball at his feet, excellent on the line - but is capable of many strange things when coming for crosses. Joined the club in the summer from Hannover. Was an outfield player until he turned 16. 6 ft 5

In defense they have signed Danish giant Mads Andersen and Bambo Diaby an african defender who latest played with Lokeren. What they both have in common is that they are physical players who lack experience (both 21)

Rightback is another youngster in Toby Sibbick. 20 year old player who was signed from AFC Wimbledon this season. On the opposite side is Dimitri Cavare a french player who was a regular for Barnsley last season.(Edit - he is now actually an international for Guadeloupe)

Alex Mowatt - former Leeds-player who joined Barnsley in 2017 for £600.000 and has been a regular ever since. Played all League matches last season and scored 8 goals.

Luke Thomas - signed from Derby in the summer after a good season on loan with Coventry. Winger who is just 20 years old. Started his career with Cheltenham before joining Derby in 2016.

Cameron McGeehan was brilliant for Luton and scored 22 goals in 65 matches during his 2 years at Kenilworth Road. Was signed by Barnsley in 2017 but has so far not reached the same stats. Had a strong season last and will be a key-player

Mike-Steven Bähre - joined from Hannover in the summer after playing last season on loan for Barnsley. The captain of the club. Just 23 year old.

Mallik Wilks - Another youngster, just 20 years old. Signed from Leeds in the summer. Spent last season on loan with Doncaster and scored 14 goals in 44 matches. Quick and powerful.

Cauley Woodrow - after having a fairly unsuccesful career, Woodrow suddenly started finding the back of the net last season and scored 16 goals in 31 matches. Plays against his old club who sold him to Barnsley in january.

1-0 Barnsley - Luke Thomas gets past Bryan on the left. Looks for Woodrow but decides to shoot himself from a tight angle, ball takes a deflection of Mawson and goes past Betinelli.

A horrible first half by Fulham. One thing is that they are behind at half-time, another thing is that they haven't even been close to creating a chance. Their three in the middle - McDonald, Cairney and Johansen have all looked sluggish and they have been overrun by a youthful Barnsley-side. No doubt they need Knockaert in the 2nd half.

From what I have seen - Barnsley look anything but a bottom-contender. They could actually be one of the surprises of the season.

Forest - WBA 1-2 (1-2) Debutant Muric with an awful start to his Forest-career

1-0 Matt Cash - the rightback played a one-two with Adomah - took the ball on his chest and fired low into the bottom corner from 18 yards. Neatly taken goal - but sorry Sam Johnstone, you should have done better at your near post.

1-1 Kyle Edwards - gets the ball on the left. Gets past Cash and shoots low and hard almost straight at Muric, who can't keep the ball out. The youngster Muric is on loan from City and really should have done better. Would have been better to stop that shot with his leg.

1-2 Matt Phillips - tries a cross from the right, and the ball flies neatly into the far corner. Once again Muric should have done better, but in fairness it wasn't easy to keep out.

Wigan - Cardiff 3-2 (0-1) Josh Windass superb as Wigan beat Cardiff

0-1 Joe Ralls - should have been sent off earlier after a horror tackle - put Cardiff ahead when he shot through a number of bodies from short range

Josh Windass missed a penalty after being brought down by Sean Morrison.

1-1 Michael Jacobs equalized just a few minutes later. Josh Windass' freekick took a deflection off the wall and ended up with Jacobs who scored from close range.

2-1 Josh Windass and Sean Morrison once again had a duel, and Morrison who seemed afraid of yet again bringing down Windass decided not to get too close. Windass said thank you, and hammered the ball past Joe Day who had come on as a sub for the injured Etheridge just minutes earlier. That was Joe Day's debut following his summer move from Newport County.

2-2 Nicely taken goal by Cardiff - Mendez-Laing found some space down the left and put in a cross which substitute Omar Bogle side-footed home from close range.

3-2 The best goal of the day - Lee Evans got the ball out on the left and sent a beautiful curler into the top-corner. That was the welsh internationals 2nd League goal in over 50 appearances for Wigan.

Blackburn - Charlton 1-2 (0-1) Blackburn dominated and were the better side - but failed to take their chances and were sloppy in defense.

0-1 Jon Williams sent in a cross towards the far post and left wing-back Ben Purrington arrived to stab home his first ever League goal in his
117th apperance.

1-1 A weird equalizer. Charlie Mulgrew headed a corner towards the near post. Keeper Phillips couldn't reach the ball, but on the near post was Anfernee Dijksteel who cleared the ball off the line with his head, but the ball hit the back of keeper Phillips' head and rebounded into the net. A strange owngoal

1-2 Charlton grabbed the winner when Lyle Taylor was left completely unmarked after a corner and steered home from Close range. The 29 year old scored 21 goals for Charlton in League 1 last year.

Brentford - Birmingham 0-1 (0-1) Brentford completely outplayed Birmingham, but the visitors scored on their only real attempt.

0-1 Debutant Steve Seddon who played the last 2 seasons on-loan, put in a cross which danish defender Kristian Pedersen headed into the top corner from 20 yards out. A superb header.

Millwall - Preston 1-0 (1-0) Millwall had 55% passing accuracy and about 35% of the ball but scored the important goal.

1-0 Jed Wallace with a volley following a fine cross from Connor Mahoney.

Reading - Sheffield W 1-3 (0-1) Evenly fought game where Wednesday won despite having keeper Westwood sent off.

0-1 Kadeem Harris (summer signing from Cardiff) got past Yiadom on the left and slotted the ball past Joao Virginia, debutant on-loan from Everton.

1-1 Yakou Meite equalized with a looping header into the top corner following a cross from the left by Josh Barrett

1-2 Sam Hutchison put the Owls ahead when he superbly met Barry Bannans corner with his head

Wednesday-keeper Kieren Westwood was sent off in the 80 minute from bringing down Mo Barrow

1-3 A brilliant goal from Lucas Joao in the 97th minute finished the game off. With a man in the back, he turned and fired low into the bottom corner from 20 yards. out.

Will return with the other matches later

Just realised Bristol City-Leeds is on today. Great fixture to end first week of championship. Will watch that rather than last 15 minutes of Community shield unless it goes to penalties.

Leeds really signed Kiko Casilla full time?! Surely they had enough warning end of last season to just send him back to Real Madrid, proper comedy show.

Swansea - Hull 2-1 (0-1) Swansea with 2 goals in 1 minute to win beat Hull

0-1 Kamil Grosicki sent in a low cross from the edge of the area which rolled past everyone and into the far corner.

1-1 Nathan Dyer - low cross, Grimes flicks the ball on with his heel and Borja Baston with a looping header over the keeper from 5 yards out.

2-1 Mike van der Hoorn with a Close range header. The ball rebounded off the bar to Dyer who crossed for van der Hoorn to score.

Stoke - QPR 1-2 (0-1) Jack Butland with a big mistake as QPR win away.

0-1 West Ham-loan Jordan Hugill gave QPR the lead after a big mistake by Butland. Amos With a sweeping cross towards Osayi-Samuel, for some strange reason Jack Butland went to intercept the ball almost by the corner-flag. Osayi-Samuel managed to swing in a perfect cross for Hugill to volley into the empty net from 3 yards out.

0-2 Eberechi Eze grabbed the second when he picked the ball up just short of the halfway-line. Advanced, went past one defender and shot past Butland. The 21 year old has been linked With several P.L Clubs following a strong season 18/19

1-2 Sam Clucas pulled a goal back 10 minutes from the end. QPR failed to Clear a cross from the left and the midfielder hammered home from 10 yards.

Huddersfield are so poor, good season for them will be avoiding relegation to league one.

Phillip Cocu's Derby 2 nil up.;)

Maybe this year Tom Lawrence will fulfil his potential, second was a cracking finish.

Phillip Cocu will be coccuhoop with the result but not the performance of his team once Derby's 2-0 lead had been halved.

This probably isn’t worthy of its own thread, so I’m sticking it here. Good on them. I think all clubs should take the same approach.
Agreed. Hopefully it will set a precedent where players don't feign injury as much but will take a bit of time.

Round 2

A summary of round 2 - Tom Cairney and Paul Gallagher both scoring superb goals. Cardiff-striker Isaac Vassel scoring the winner 6 minutes into injury time. And the VAR-controversy when Boro played against Brentford.

Leeds - Nottingham 1-1 (0-0)
L: Hernandez 59 - N: Grabban 77

After Patrick Bamford spent the first hour missing every chance he got, experienced winger Pablo Hernandez gave Leeds the lead when he slotted past Forest keeper Muric following a neat pass by Mateusz Klich. Forest scored on the only attempt they had on goal. Lewis Grabban stuck out his foot and managed to poke the ball a Forest-corner into the net.

Hull - Reading 2-1 (2-0)

H: Bowen 6, Irvine 16 - R: Joao 66

Hull with 2 quick goals in the first 16 minutes. Grosicki created the first when his low cross somehow squeezed past on-loan goalkeeper Virginia for Bowen to tap home. Bowen turned provider 10 minutes later. He crossed beautifully from the right and australian international Jackson Irvine header home. Reading scored 20 minutes into the second half, after a fine effort from Lucas Joao. He picked up the ball on the right, cut inside and shot low past keeper Long at the near post.

Derby - Swansea 0-0 (0-0)

Lots of chances for both sides, but none of the teams could get the ball into the back of the net.

WBA - Millwall 1-1 (0-0)

W: Pearce (OG) 57 - M: Smith 75

WBA had most of the chances and possession and deservedly took the lead when defender Alex Pearce headed Matt Phillips freekick past his own keeper. Millwall threw tall striker Matt Smith onto the pitch and with 15 minutes left to play, the former QPR-striker equalized. A cross to the far post was headed back in front of goal and Smith turned the ball into the roof of the net from 5 yards out.

Charlton - Stoke 3-1 (1-1)
C: Taylor 25, Aneke 75, Gallagher 83 - S: Ince 37

Stoke by far the better side but while the Potters were wasteful, Charlton were highly efficient and scored on all shots on target. Lyle Taylor scored his 2nd goal of the season when he cut in from the right and shot hard, but almost straight at Butland who should have saved the effort. Dillon Phillips also should have saved the equalizer. Thomas Ince shot from 25 yards out to the left, and the ball flew into the near corner. Phillips should have had that corner cleared. Stoke hit the bar and the post, in addition to blasting the ball over the bar with the goalkeeper stranded. Instead new-boy Chuks Aneke gave Charlton the lead with 15 minutes left to play. The striker came from MK Dons in the summer and he shot home from close range after Stoke failed to clear a low cross. Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea, scored the third after a low corner from the right

Cardiff - Luton 2-1 (0-0)

C: Flint 52, Vassel 90+6 - L: Pearson 86

Cardiff scored the winner 6 minutes into injury time. Deserved, but still hard on Luton who equalized in the 86 minute and thought they would grab a point. Aden Flint steered home the first goal following a Josh Murphy freekick from the left. Matty Pearson equalized in the 86th minute with a superb header from a corner. Luton had many chances to clear the ball in injury-time but failed to do so. Hoilett sent in a perfect cross and Isaac Vassel got to the ball ahead of goalkeeper Sluga and headed the ball into the empty net. Vassel scored 1 goal in 23 matches for Birmingham but became the hero in his first match for Cardiff.

Preston - Wigan 3-0 (2-0)
P: Maguire 6, Moult 39, Gallagher 59

Preston were highly effective and scored three goals in 4 attempts, helped by Wigan's lack of defending. Sean Maguire headed home the first goal after 6 minutes following a corner from the left. Daniel Johnson was given too much space on the left just before the break and Lewis Moult could head home unmarked from 8 yards. The best goal of the evening was reserved experienced striker Paul Gallagher. Gallagher turned 35 the day before and celebrated the day by curling a superb freekick from the edge of the area, into the top corner.

Sheffield Wednesday - Barnsley 2-0 (1-0)
S: Murphy 2, Fletcher 59

Sheffield Wednesday climbed to the top of the table with a fairly easy win against newly promoted Barnsley. The hometeam took the lead after less than 2 minutes. A Barnsley defender misplaced a pass and Kadeem Harris stole the ball. His initial effort was blocked into the path of Jacob Murphy who slotted the ball past keeper Samuel Radlinger. Radlinger who should have been sent off minutes after the break when he came out to stop a through-ball and slid with the ball in his hands out of the area. Luckily for the austrian, there is no VAR in the Championship. Steven Fletcher finished the game off after an hour, when his low shot from 18 yards found the corner, following good work my Murphy and Kieran Lee.

Fulham - Blackburn 2-0 (1-0)
F: Cairney 34, Mitrovic 81

Fulham grabbed their first win of the season by beating Blackburn 2-0. Tom Cairney scored a contender for goal of the season when he curled the ball into the top corner from 25 yards. Blackburn never looked like scoring and it was well deserved when Alexander Mitrovic scored the second goal 10 minutes before the end. Joe Bryan ran from his own half and put in a low cross that Mitrovic could slot home.

Birmingham - Bristol City 1-1 (0-0)
Bi: Jutkiewicz 64 - Bc: Rowe 83

Former Everton-striker Lukas Jutkiewicz gave Birmingham the lead on 64 minutes. Marc Roberts put in a superb cross at the far post and Jutkiewicz beat 2 defenders to head home. Bristol City fought back and equalized through Tommy Rowe, signed from Doncaster in the summer. Kasey Palmer with a neat through-ball and Rowe hammered the ball home from a tight angle.

QPR - Huddersfield 1-1 (0-0)

Q: Hall 83 - H: Grant 49 (P)

The visitors took the lead on 49 minutes after Karlan Grant sent substitute Elias Kuchenga through on goal. He was brought down by Yoann Barbet and Grant scored on the penalty. QPR-captain Richard Grant equalized in the 83 minute when he headed home a freekick from the left.

Middlesbrough - Brentford 0-1 (0-0)
B: Watkins 54

The most debated game was Boro and Brentford. Ashley Fletcher twice had the ball in the net, both were disallowed and both looked like perfectly good goal. The first was after a quick corner when Brentford-keeper Raya tried to clear a poor back-pass near the corner flag. He didn't rush back, Boro noticed and quickly put the corner into the area where Fletcher beat a defender to get the ball into the empty net. But according to the linesman it was handball by Fletcher. Later he got another goal disallowed for offside. Instead Brentford won the game was former Liverpool-youngster Sergio Canos made a brilliant run on the right-hand side before finding Ollie Watkins with a low cross. Watkins got one of the easier goals in his career. Jonathan Woodgate was furious after the game and demanded the introduction of VAR.

Would be great to see Leeds back up.
Having the biggest clubs back up will only benefit the league.
Dream scenario for me is seeing clubs like Bournemouth, Brighton and Burnley go down and Leeds, Nottingham Forest and Derby go up.

I like the idea of bigger clubs being in the top league as well but I do appreciate smaller clubs playing attractive football and I feel the likes of Bournemouth deserve to stay up due to their style of football. Brighton under their new manager seems to be shifting to a more attractive style of play as evidenced by their emphatic win over Watford. The one club I would really like to see relegated is Burnley who plays shit-on-a-stick football with thuggish tactics and I can't stand that gravel-voiced manager of theirs.

I was listening to talkShit earlier and they were saying the PL needs them back in the PL
