The clearout - progression thread

Coventry just paid 22.5 mil for Brighton’s backup young keeper. We should be getting similar.
 
Totally unacceptable to only be getting £5m if that is true. Should have been somewhere between £10-20m depending on the % of sell-on and buy-back fee.

Lots of reasons, but in short, we bought a ton of expensive players who were not very good while not getting in younger talent from outside in the academy. So we never have players with first team exp and also at the age of 20-24 where the wages are not obscene

Meanwhile our rivals, mainly Chelsea and City understood this can be a very sustainable business and turnover and heavily invested in enabling systems and made a name for themselves for producing high quality younger players

But the change in approach recently with 17-18 yr old signings represents an intention atleast

We are never going to actually sell a player are we? I mean ffs it’s not even wages preventing us at this stage, what’s Bayindir supposed to be on..
 
Everything is a loan. How is it we cannot shift these players?

None maybe been as bad as Onana but you see the likes of Trafford and possibly Delap going up in value? Delap had a worse season than Zirkzee's first at Utd.

Now that I look though there's not as many as I thought so far tbf. Still think it's crazy we can't get Zirkzee sold for something like £15m. He's decent in a few areas, just shouldn't be a striker.

Delap hasn't been sold and Trafford is a really good goalie

Chelsea had to loan out Jackson, Garnacho, will probably have to keep hold of Gittens and Lavia.

We are probably the worst but it's not just an issue problem and it's mostly cause we've brought terribly and often on inflated wages.
 
Hmm. The clear-out list wasn't supposed to have Vitek on it. Ttpical that he'll be the only one actually sold.

Well we'll just have to bite the bullet for another year at least. This is what happens when you vastly overpay for shite players and give them inflated 5yr contracts.

Last summer was only the start of the weeding out process, it will take three more windows to sort properly. As long as we keep making decent signings, we'll get there. And then we might finally make a good sale once more!
