The clearout - progression thread

A lot of noise about Collyer leaving to West Brom. Maybe we will get 10m for him?

Disagree in terms of our squad, our side is short in terms of quality and fitness and in a couple of areas and look weak next to some other big premiership sides, but it really isn’t short in terms of numbers as much as made out. We have 2 or 3 options all through the middle bar striker, at least 3 wingers either side and two possible full backs either side…..so for me no, there is still a big clear out that maybe we are trying and failing to do….and subsequently failing to address each position needs improvement.

This has been the same story every summer for over a decade. What has improved has been our purchases over all the last few seasons, but we needed a new lb, rb, lw option and back up striker and arguably a cb……we could have done most of that relatively cheaply, especially net spend wise with a few other sales…..this defensive rebuild will move on to next summer, just like our midfield rebuild moved on to this summer. Literally 3 seasons to rebuild a side which we could EASILY have done in two summers
In that scenario we're using the same player for multiple positions to have 2 or 3 options in each attacking position. Just run through the names in the squad that are sell-able. Attack: Cunha, Dorgu, Mbeumo, Sesko are all new players so no. Midfield: Bruno, Santos, Tielemans, Mainoo, Baleba non are sell-able. Defence: Shaw, Maguire, Heaven, De Ligt, Martinez, Yoro, Dalot and Maz. This is where we have the most surplus but even then again with hopefully 60 games this season we'll probably be relying on the majority of them.

Players I've missed that I'm sure we'd happily sell but can't through injury/contracts or both: Rashford, Zirkzee, Mount, Ugarte. Are truly only sell-able assets that we have where another player can play their position are Amad and Dalot but even then we'd be down to 1 player for the season if we did.

60 games this season we'll probably be relying on the majority of them - that is my whole point, we are relying on players we shouldnt be

Mazroui, Dalot, Maguire, possibly one of Ugarte, Mount, Rashford, Amad (we have Mbuemo and Lacey so not one player), Zirkzee, Collyer, Amass...... Initial point was we seem unable to sell players if not youth or end of contracts....I havent even mentioned the likes of Bayindir, Onana we keep on loaning.

Lammens/Heaton
Shaw/Dorgu
Martinez/Heaven
Yoro/DeLigt
Nobody/Nobody
Baleba/Santos
Mainoo/Tielmans
Fernandes/Nobody
Cunha/Nobody
Mbueomo/Lacey
Sekso/Nobody

So if we had of managed to sell every single player I listed, we would have been five players short of 22......Just guessing but maybe £150m+ to fund.

Obviously we simply cant offload Mount or Rashford this summer, so they take two of the vacant spots, so we would be only 3players short with certainly extra money to fund 3more transfers

And this isnt including the likes of the Fletchers, Thwaites, Gabriel and Tynan Thompson who was supposedly signed for the first team squad.....they probably arent ready, but a few arent far behind and could certainly feature in Caraboa or even FA cup games from those 60.

Obviously no guarantees getting players but if we had of managed to sell few more players and buy:

Lammens/Heaton
Shaw/Balde
Martinez/Heaven
Yoro/DeLigt
Kayode/Ganiou
Baleba/Santos
Mainoo/Tielmans
Fernandes/Mount
Cunha/Dorgu
Mbueomo/Lacey
Sekso/Rashford

Probably another £100m this summer, Ganiou is a cb/rb so he could well develop into cb, thats half our defensive rebuild done which will probably now run into summer....we never do enough outgoing and incomings in one window for me

Few journalists now saying Rashford will turn down any approaches from Turkish teams. Think its Fenerbache who just qualified for the CL and enquired about him.

But how is it possible? Chelsea and city sell such calibre players for 40m
I can’t explain the fees they get. They’re baffling to me.

But in terms of Collyer - hopefully I’m wrong but I’d be surprised if it’s too much above £5m and I actually reckon it’ll be lower with low buy back, high sell on clauses etc. He’s inexperienced in terms of senior games for his age, hasn’t overly stood out when he’s played and barely got a game during his two loan spells. Both his loan clubs have had a look at signing him so they must see something and he might go on to have a good career, but for someone of 22 there isn’t a lot to go off to be paying £10m for him, even in reserves football.

Just and idea, I think player’s agents are the ones doing all the sells in 90%. Too lazy to check it for all the players but isn’t our problem with selling players the fact that we refuse to deal with some agents and pay their commission and then the agents of players we have are not that good at moving their players around to get commission after commission from their players moving clubs every few years ? That’s why city or Chelsea sell most of the players they bought last few seasons.

And then you need to add the fact we like to give players a chance and are very emphatic to everyone. Then 9/10 players put bad performances for 3 seasons and then everyone knows they are crap and no one wants them. When 5-6 of those 10 players that were bad 1st year should be out right away till other thinks he is still good. We should sell Zirkzee and Ugarte after 1 season when they still had some mark around Europe.

Also I am sure that if we bought Delap last season with the same agent he has, we would like to give him a chance after bad 1st season and we would not sold him for 50. Then we would realise he is bad and we would pay his salary for 3-season and then sell him for 12 mil.

That’s why we do not have money for other transfers. From the first minute after the season end or even during last season we should have told Zirkzee agent he has no place in the team and to find him sth, but no he comes back to pre season smiles and have a good time with other teammates because he does not feel pressure to find new club. And we are stuck with a player that Carrick do not even want to play when we need to score a goal against feckin Hull.

We need to cut that family friendly approach to all the players. You are uselles for us as a player find yourself a new home or sit on the bench. See ya.

If we had realised sales would be so disastrous this summer then perhaps should have signed someone cheaper than Mbeumo last summer

I thought selling Collyer was the right thing at this point. But jeez that does feel like a small fee.

David Moyes would say Manchester United need to improve in a number of areas, including buying players, selling players, offering contracts and developing the academy.

Both these clubs have a history of dodgy dealings in the market. One has been charged and had previous transfer bans and one is sitting on 115 charges.

Wonder how much we paid for him in the first place from Brighton.

Can't expect much for a 22 year-old who's played slightly over 800 minutes in his career. The only time he's had a full game is the 7-0 against Barnsley where he looked out of his depth at left-back.

And like all the other cases, the high sell-on percentage is going to mean a lower initial fee.

3m? How? He still played 17 games in the Championship last season. That's real first team experience in a difficult league.

Yet, other teams can sell academy products with 15 minutes off the bench in the league Cup vs Accrington Stanley and get 20-30m.

That's some bullshit. Collyer is better than 3m.......

Doesn't help he had injury problems in championship

He played 350 minutes last season, struggled to make an impact at two clubs in the Championship and gets injured a lot. Hes worth a bit more than 3m but when you want to include all those classes you have to take less up front, he was never being sold for big money though.

I think we were banking on Ugarte and Rashford going which has pretty much put a spanner in the works.
Thing is mate if we’re banking on specific players being moved on it shows how amateurish we’re run, United shouldn’t have to rely on moving deadwood on to finance our transfers

I still can't get over how mental this fee is, no matter what his minutes were last season  . I guarantee any other self-respecting Premier League club would have at least secured £10m.

It’s an atrocious fee it really is. £10m should have been the starting point.

He’s a decent midfielder that I think will go on to have a good career in the Championship and lower PL teams. Whenever he played for us he did his job no problem.

It’s genuinely staggering at how little we recoup for some of these players in comparison to how Chelsea and City operate?

Thought that was why we got Barada and Wilcox in from City in the first place?

£3m for an academy lad that has played 1st team football for Utd is a joke - who does these deals!
