I believe the club have now understood something they never did - and maybe that's because they're now understanding the world of data more. They took the wrong route; they will learn from it, but I also think they'll use it to their advantage going forward. As long as the rules are clear, which currently they aren't, then whether we like it or not, we'll have to follow them or stop going. Some rule changes will need to be challenged, but that's the purpose of FAB and FF.Has anyone read Andy Mitten’s article in The Athletic? It reads like it is an easy fix.
Im not defending the club but the article above reads like a quick conversation/explanation with club and it all gets reinstated.
Anyone who hasn’t done anything wrong probably has nothing to worry about.
Again, im not defending the club, and they could definitely have handled it better but if everyone who hasn’t done anything wrong is reinstated before the first game, I didn’t see an issue. Especially if it eeks out even one tout
Probably an easy fix, but the execution is piss poor. To assume touting and issue blanket bans over harmless metrics like multiple devices is ridiculous.Has anyone read Andy Mitten’s article in The Athletic? It reads like it is an easy fix.

Detail in this one is interesting as the mother admits she manages a group of 19 tickets for friends & family - this is not unusual and there are many like her dealing with away apps, renewals etc for others with no intention of touting, something the club and AI analysis don't understand
1 account can apply up to 6 eligible people; people do this to be together in the ground. Why should the mother be managing 19 season tickets?
Season tickets are sold to individuals and the account should be managed by the person whose name is on the ticket.
Why should she be making away applications on all 19 accounts? Each season ticket holder should be responsible for their own applications.
1 account can apply up to 6 eligible people; people do this to be together in the ground.
Does she say she manages 19 Season Tickets or 19 accounts? Very different things here.
As I told you the other day, I know a lad that does 5 groups of 6, the tickets all stay within that group, if spares, they often come up me and others as swaps... All forwarded, all legit.Which is fine.
As ever, these articles don't get into the details. They like to focus instead on the poor kid that has been impacted as opposed to delving into what the mother may have done incorrectly.
It says "19 relatives and friends had formed a group so they could sit together"
"Katie she handled much of their ticket administration, including away applications".
Given she is making away applications, it's safe to assume that at least some of what she manages are STs.
Isn't is obvious what she is doing? Applying for away tickets on all accounts and likely taking those away tickets for herself/her husband?
I know people who do that - just not with 19 accounts!
As I told you the other day, I know a lad that does 5 groups of 6, the tickets all stay within that group, if spares, they often come up me and others as swaps... All forwarded, all legit.
He doesn't manage any season tickets, just the apps
AFAIK there are currently no rules against doing this - as mentioned, even the club system allows you to do it for a group of 6Why should the mother be managing 19 season tickets?

that's before talking about kids who obviously can't do it for themselves and some older fans who might struggle with the technology
What the club should have done is set out the rules going forward and tell fans that they would be looking out for any 'suspicious activity' in future
Yeah, that isn't against the T&Cs - some of the people don't even know how to log in and do half this stuff, so rely on others. And is he logging into other peoples accounts?
Why does that have to happen? Why can't each person look after their own applications?
Yeah, that isn't against the T&Cs - some of the people don't even know how to log in and do half this stuff, so rely on others.
Because he sorts it all out, people have been doing this for years, legitimately, because they're built up communities/networks.
I've already explained why people don't look after their own applications.
You seem to be putting this situation into a mindset you have ("I know other peoples"), which means no matter what I explain, you've already framed the answer in your mind to that scenario.Yeah, you said that people may be making applications for upto 30 people. 6 at a time with one account, then 6 more with another, then another 6 with a different account.
Or in your case, you said you logged into multiple accounts so you can use you Amex and get Amex points for each ST renewal.
Easy solution - break these groups into 6 and ensure that only the owner of the account logs in and applies with the 5 other accounts that are linked to them. There is no valid reason why one person manages 30 accounts.
I agree, this may not be touting, but you can see why the club may view it as suspicious. They have given anyone a right to reply, so what is the issue?
And it may very well be that touts are still making money from STs, away tickets and final tickets (not that we go to many). Maybe some have been rooted out in this process?
The T&Cs say accounts are not transferable. So the club may say that once an account and password is handed over to someone else, you have in essence transferred control.
I know people who manage other peoples season tickets, especially for out of towners who can't attend every game. They don't do it because they love admin. They do it because they get the benefit of the away tickets from ballots.
You seem to be putting this situation into a mindset you have ("I know other peoples"), which means no matter what I explain, you've already framed the answer in your mind to that scenario.
The T&Cs don't say anything about not allowing account sharing, although they do address unauthorised ticket usage. It's up to the club to prove that any such activity is against the T&Cs, not just saying "suspicious activity" - unless you can highlight to me from the T&Cs which specifically says you can't share these details. In contract law, having the theoretical ability or permission to do something is not the same as actually doing it.
You're making assumptions that the tickets are not used by the person given in the ballot; I've never said that. In fact, it's the complete opposite: the official forwarding system is used and actioned by the person who owns the account.Im not saying what your or your crew are doing anything fundamentally wrong. Im saying that other people are and that the club are in their right to ask questions. People that have received emails have a right to reply and im sure if all is above board then nothing more will come of it being a "please don’t log into other people’s account accounts” warning.
But at the same time, you are not giving a reason why one person has to administer applications for 30 people.
Yes, there is nothing specific about account sharing. But the T&Cs says....
"Membership is personal to each Member, is not transferable and shall not be transferred or re-sold under any circumstances"
Are you not allowing for transfer when giving someone else your accounts details to let them administer your account and applications?
And if you do get an away ticket, and that ticket is not used by the person who it was given to in the ballot, the club could argue that this amounts to an unauthorized transfer.

Let's be clear that the club have said they have done this to stop touting and of course most fans are happy to see touts banned. But it's pretty clear by now that many (probably the majority) of accounts being flagged are not fans who are trying to make a financial gain from reselling.Yes, the club system does allow for applications for linked accounts, which is fine. They have created a mechanism for it, but obviously people are going outside of that by account sharing.
Agree, it doesn't specifically say anything about account sharing to make applications in the T&Cs, but it does say that tickets are non transferable outside of the specific club transfer methods.
As are memberships "Membership is personal to each Member, is not transferable and shall not be transferred".
And that includes away tickets. If you get one, you should be the one that attends. But we know that isn't happening.
We know the reality is that groups of ST holders are applying and divvying up the away tickets. Or ST holders are password sharing avoid buying transfer memberships. Not major breaches, but still not according to the rules.
IMO, if they want to focus on touts, spend a few thousand quid on buying tickets on non approved platforms and trace back who the originator was.
I agree, it sounds very sus.Why should the mother be managing 19 season tickets?

You are unknown here and we like to hear if sources are valid or notJackson has got it wrong. That's not what the emails are saying.
I think I've earned my stripes to not have to reveal my sources, maybe not on here, but elsewhere I have.

The systems United offers aren't flexible enough and are full of bugs - so supporters are either informed by the Ticket Office of ways around the issues, or the supporter does.Account sharing will get you into trouble on any piece of software that collects people’s data, if not you personally, the person who’s account you’re in can face consequences.
For United specifically the club maintains that no official ticketing process requires logging into someone else's credentials. If a ticket needs to be managed or transferred, it must be done through official authorized club mechanisms—such as the official ticketing app's designated relationship/forwarding features—rather than sharing passwords.
Who's to blame then? Away applications were average 7k to 8k not so long ago, then increased over time to over 12k average - the reason for that is 100% club decisioning; they've created an environment to speculate to accumulate. To me, you could say it’s all legit… but it is very obvious that lots of networks are doing this and applying using the accounts of people who have no intention of attending a particular away game. Which explains in many cases why someone else is using their details - they don’t need the hassle of having to apply to matches they aren’t going to attend themselves. But they apply using these accounts anyway as it increases their chances of getting a ticket in the ballot. It’s why we are getting a massively over-inflated number of away applicants and that’s got significantly worse in recent years.
In my opinion, the club should ban the forwarding or use of away tickets by anyone other than the original ST holder who was successful in the ballot. If that person can’t go, they can return the ticket and the club should reallocate to someone unsuccessful in the ballot.
Then they shouldn’t complain. It’s having your cake and eating it.Maybe to you and some others I'm unknown, but there are people on here who do know me. I don't see a rule that I have to name my source(s)?

If you stop all the networks and communities that have been built up over years or, in some cases, decades, legitimately, then you'll stop the United away end from being the best in the country... A ballot is still a ballot, so it's still a matter of luck of the draw, whether you increase your chances or not, but if you can increase your chances, anyone would.
Sorry, I'm lost; who's complaining and about what? Then they shouldn’t complain. It’s having your cake and eating it.
As I said, most on here don’t know you. We don’t go for the old “trust me bro” approaches, it never works
We are debating semanticsSorry, I'm lost; who's complaining and about what?
You didn't say most on here; you said I was unknown. I've also not hinted at the "trust me bro"; I said I feel like I've earned my stripes. Anyone who goes to United and has seen what's gone on recently, I'm pretty sure they'll have heard how much I've tried to assist fellow Reds...
My back is up because I've just spent 12 days fighting for reds online, at the start, by myself until others followed. I then felt questioned on here; I kept being asked the same questions over and over, but with different context, and then twisting my answers, and I felt frustrated. I didn't know this poster likes to argue. We are debating semantics
You say “earned your stripes”, but won’t name your sources so at those point in time you’re another Joe Bloggs.
And before you kick off, I was the admin that argued about making an exception to promote you.
But so far all I’ve seen is another poster who likes to argue with others who don’t agree with your point 100%
I was told that your help people, so what is it that you’re doing to help?
Thanks I’ll have a read of your substack later, I’m boycotting X as it’s a right wing cesspit run by an absolute tosser of a man.My back is up because I've just spent 12 days fighting for reds online, at the start, by myself until others followed. I'm not kicking off; I was standing my ground when I felt challenged.
I did say I couldn't post links to my X and Substack, so I asked people to search for my post. Maybe naive of me, but I thought people might have done that
I started posting about the reason this post was created on the 14th of July here: https://x.com/OhCheesesChrist
I also have a Substack with some info here: https://cheesesofnazareth.substack.com/
I'll let people decide if I'm Joe Bloggs or here with genuine reasons. Maybe I just need an early night.

Yep and I expect it will include something like “only the account holder should have access to the account. Anyone accessing your account that it is not the account holder will result in suspension of your account” etcAnecdotally it looks like most are having the bans cancelled - I don't know any who have had their appeal turned down, although many are still waiting for a response
I expect the club will issue updated rules & regs on account access going forward
