Away tickets are a very different discussion because of the limited availability.
Let's be clear with all this. Season ticket holders were being banned (until there was pushback from fans and the media) for the most absolute minor infractions. They weren't touting, they were in some cases helping people who were crap with technology sort their tickets out. In some cases, it was letting someone have access to their Google wallet * because of a last minute emergency.
This wasn't touting and it might have been technically in breach of the rules but it's a terrible way to treat your fans. And again, if you believe in conspiracy theories, you might argue that the club is actively getting rid of ST holders so they can make more money selling individual tickets to the big matches.
