The curious case of Patrick Dorgu

He was awful throughout the pre-season as well. I know pre-season only but just reaffirms the point that against teams where we need to open the defense, he does not have the guile to perform at that level. He did well for those games as those games are where, I do agree he has his uses, as we will defending a lot and he can help LB, Plus he can run up and down and provide an out ball at counter attacks.

So again, he’s not redundant is he? I don’t care about pre-season - in the actual league he’s proven to be very effective in some games with some match winning contributions. And one of his biggest attributes is that he actually attacks the ball in the box - see his goal against City, even his attempt against Hull. That’s something we lack from many of our other players. I agree he’s not the right pick in every game, but he’s done enough to get a little more credit than he’s given by a fanbase which remains incredibly fickle.

But Carrick himself has chosen to play Mbeumo up front as much as RW - he was often starting Mbeumo ahead of Sesko last season. And Mbeumo’s most dangerous in and around the box, and he had been scoring goals there in pre-season, so I’m struggling to see why Cunha was suddenly judged a better option there. Dorgu or Lacey on the right seems like a better replacement for Amad there than Cunha is for Mbeumo up top.
Don't think Carrick saw it that way and to me it would have be more baffling if he'd have chucked Lacey into the mix instead of playing Mbeumo in the position he's played most his career.

Maybe this week he's goes with Dorgu off the right considering last weeks team didn't benefit anyone. Obviously depending if Sesko's out still but I can see why he thought playing Mbeumo in his natural position, Dorgu in his potentially strongest position and Cunha in a position he's not exactly alien to, shame it didn't work.

Well obviously. It’s his decision I’m criticising, because what he went for didn't work.

If you have a player scoring goals
In one position in pre-season then I just don’t understand changing it for the league. Consistency helps.

Kind of circular at this point but to me Carrick's decision to play the players where they played made more sense then throwing a kid into the mix or playing a player he's never played in said position there. Hopefully he fixes it this week though.

So do you think all players who similar level of technique? Some are obviously far better which makes them look more comfortable and better than others. Do you think Dorgu has a similar technique as Evra? In fact in terms of technique he is worst than Dalot and Maz, who are no world beaters themselves.

For the other players, Mctominay was a solid player for us and he was technically alright. His problem was, he was never a 6, where we tried to fit him in. Similarly he was never getting ahead of Bruno as a 10. I think for his sake its great that he moved on and loving his life. But the example could not have been further away from my point. Mctominay had good technique, we would never play him in his best position, where he is thriving.

Harry dilly dallies on the ball, but his passing and technique is very good for a CB. Haaland is a freak, his hold up play, strength, pace, shot power and finishing are like elite tier, he does not need to have great touches or passing. The point is not about being perfect at everything, no player is, but at his position he needs to be good at those skills which are required. For Dorgu, since he plays LB, he needs to be a good defender which he is not. For LW, he is not a great dribbler, crosser, shooting, passing, linkup etc all are very weak. What he is good at are pace, physicality and running.
His goal at Arsenal suggests he has great shot within him, maybe even really good technique....maybe your just way off base here and have a grudge against him? Just a thought.

It's ok to dislike a player, but you don't have to make stuff up about an international player to try and prove your point, just relax, let it go and hope he performs the next time he plays.

A serious club would never have signed him. We should have shipped him out this summer, and signed Lewis Hall for the left back and a great winger too.
Don't be fooled by a great goal or two from Dorgu as we saw last season. He is not good enough for a top team. Never will be.
