I'm seeing people go wild about this on Twitter, so I'm surprised there was no thread (that I can see)

What's all this then?

A TV Series about 11 year old girls involving scenes of nudity and sex? Apparently in one scene it shows a young girls butt?

What's going on? Why's this on Netflix? I'm confused.

No paedophile or rape jokes before anyone thinks of posting one. Should go without saying really but have to post it as I know what some are like.

By all accounts it looks like it's a usual case of an angry mob causing outrage over nothing.

This is outrageous, I can’t believe it was allowed to go ahead.

Just a fuss about nothing as usual with Twitter.

Will edit later.

Think the renaming of the film and the thumbnail was very foolish - not sure why they tried to sexualise it.

Apparently the film itself isn't that bad - but I haven't seen it myself. I think there's certainly an explanation needed though.

Haven't watched it and won't, but it's uncomfortable to see sexualised 10 year olds even on social media

The bits I have seen on twitter should never have been filmed nevermind promoted to drive clicks on social media. Maybe it's its a real story, but it also involves paying child actors to dress sexually and twerk. Maybe I'm a prude, but art or not that creeps me the feck out

Just because it's based on a real experience doesn't make it ok to hire 11 year old girls to film that shit. If you need to cover it write a book

Oddly enough the footage on twitter of primary school aged child actors twerking while slapping each other didn't make me want to ask my Mrs if she fancied watching a movie.

Never had myself down as much of a prude, who knows maybe I'm just an angry, not so old white guy. But turns out there are things I don't think should be on TV. Makes me feel deeply uncomfortable.

Without commenting specifically on this, I do wish people would take the time to understand the intent of works of art. Obviously some shit crosses the line, but context is nonetheless important.

The controversy was mostly about a promo poster wasn't it? Other than that I no nothing about it. It does remind me of a news stoey about a 11 year old Dutch "super model", Summer de Snoo. She does photo shoots where they do her make up like an adult with her looking sultry in to a camera. Now that's just child exploitation to me. Fecking digusting.

The controversy wasn't the movie itself. It was the fact that Netflix promoted it with a poster that was incredibly misleading and featured a number of very young girls in questionable poses.

Some things are intended to make you uncomfortable. Otherwise you're happily ignorant of the uncomfortable reality that lies behind the uncomfortable art. Looking at out of context photos framed among angry comments on the Internet doesn't lend itself to that core intention, in fairness.

Whoever designed that needs investigating

It’s like they tried to Americanize it and failed spectacularly. Just imagine what they would’ve done with the ‘Blue is the Warmest Color’ poster.

This looks very reminiscent of the Donnie Darko pedo dance troupe.

How is the poster misleading? There is a big dance number where they dance in those exact outfits while twerking, rubbing their privates and humping the ground.

Is there genuinely a shot of 1 of the kids breasts in this movie? I saw it online so no clue if its true or not. If true this should be an immediate ban.

Really?

Remember “little miss sunshine”?
That young girl was doing an act that was more suited to a much older girl.
And I don’t remember any controversy about that.

I guess no one on here has seen a film called Thirteen?
Was out years ago with a very similar theme, how thirteen year old girls act older and are exploring sexual acts etc,
Was absolutely brilliant if uncomfortable viewing.
I'd imagine this will be similar viewing?

I’m guessing it’s a movie that would make most men uncomfortable. However a lot of women would probably think it’s great like Tessa Thompson.

I’m not going to ever watch. I guess my wife would. A coming of age film it seems.

This is based on having no knowledge of the movie other than this thread.

Have you seen the clips?

Social commentary or whatever it's being called, my fecking arse.

11 year olds rubbing their privates on screen is grotesque.

Not seen anything of it except what’s on here.
From what I’ve read here though

Bad wording oops, I mean I read an article but it comes from well a very right wing source and I usually take those with a pinch of salt, was just curious if that's in there or not. If it is thats overstepping the line imho by quite a bit.

Ignore the Youtuber bro and actually look at the clips. It's fecked.
The guy who's ranting needs to realise that the kids parents allowed them to take part in this film!!
Unless they are predators too of course?!
He also needs to realise that the impact and debate wouldn't be as loud if the actors were 16 plus years old.

Thanks for that.
I know some young girls like to copy older girls so that they would do these moves doesn’t surprise me. The surprise is the filming of it, if that makes sense.
Ok, so I heard it’s controversial on Netflix, but how was it received in France? Are the frenchies ok with this?
Another thing too I suppose, but if I saw the whole movie would these dance moves look different, taking the context into mind?
I suppose I’ll have to watch it to find out.

I better make sure my wife is there when I do watch it though:nervous:

I saw this going round on Facebook, along with comments about Bill Clinton having shares in Netflix and it all being part of a massive sex trafficking ring. So I instantly took it as this didn’t actually take place.

Parents are mental if they don’t think that their 12/13/14 year old daughters aren’t watching videos of whatever music video and copying the dances with their friends.

I’ve ignored all things to do with this film as I knew it’d annoy me. I just watched that video you posted and it’s fecking disgusting, and anyone who tries to defend what’s in that video is also fecking disgusting.
