It’s like they tried to Americanize it and failed spectacularly. Just imagine what they would’ve done with the ‘Blue is the Warmest Color’ poster.
Would be something fit forcthe AVNs.
Is there genuinely a shot of 1 of the kids breasts in this movie? I saw it online so no clue if its true or not. If true this should be an immediate ban.

Having known a few and even dated someone who was abused as a child, I can say that pedophiles are sone of the most conniving manipulative types who will find excuses for whatever they do. This movie from what I’ve seen so far is another case in my opinion. And it doesn’t surprise me that it got praise in the film industry, which I’m sure is full of pedophiles.

What a weird case this one is. Is it really such a work of Art that the naysayers and critics of the movie are labelled prude and conservative?

It is difficult to comment on the movie without watching the whole movie first. But from seeing the few clips, trailers, posters, it is already disturbing sight.

It's a weird one because my understanding is that the movie is about the wrong sides of society for young teenagers and how far they can wrongly go in order to be accepted in real life and online. The american poster is about when the main character realizes that the path she chose was wrong and left the dance contest.

The perplexing part is that the point is that instead of questioning what these teenagers actually live, people are uncomfortable with the fact that they seemingly sexualized these kids while watching the movie or clips.

Nope, I read that shot was from someone else.

comfortable and settled in my rut
I work in a child sexual exploitation department for a U.K. police force. Seeing indecent images of children is literally in my job description. I thought the film was a bit much.

I also predict that clips from the movie will be in my suspects phone downloads before too long

I defending the right for the film to be made,
That’s not in question though is it? It’s the way the film has been made and shot, it’s pretty vile.
The film could have been made without making it a peep show for peados

i've not seen the movie, but from what i've read, my understanding is that the scenes are not meant to be okay. the director (female) is herself attacking the pornification of girls and young women in society. these scenes are meant to be horrific and challenging, it's been done deliberately. could she have made the movie and got her point across without the overt sexualisation? sure she could have, but i'm sure she would argue that in doing so it wouldn't have driven home the point she's trying to make. and are we really blaming the director for the actions of pedos who may watch this? come on.

I hope Netflix removes both this and Taxi Driver.

That doesn't sit well with me to be honest. So she's doing the very thing she's against to make a point...

The reality is whatever way she spins it, she has paid children or their parents to take have those children take compromising positions and do sexualised dances as a stance against the sexualisation of children. Simply slapping art on it doesn't make it go away.

Imagine a parent uploading a video of their child doing those dances and saying "I'm outraged by the sexual nature of these dances my child has learned and the oversexualisation of children". They likely be childless within a day of the video hitting the web (and rightly so..).

Just because we are trying to make a point doesn't give us the right to overstep certain marks imho...

But that's the issue, it couldn't. It wouldn't have the same impact, it wouldn't question people's beliefs into this subject.
Would people be questioning their own reasons into watching the film if it wasn't as close to the mark as it is? I feel its been deliberately overplayed by the director as she wants people to feel that way whilst watching the film, she wants people to question the morals of it all.
I doubt I'm going to watch it, I'd rather watch 'Thirteen' again if I want to watch a 'coming of age social commentary', a quality film which I suggest you watch, I dread to think what you make of it

People’s beliefs into this subject... I don’t need to watch 11year old girls sticking their tongues out and dancing with their arses in the air to know it’s wrong.

I don’t think I’ll be watching the other film you mention either to be honest, I’m happy with your run of the mill films

Thirteen isn’t a bad film. I think it’s was partly written or directed by one of the girls in the film who was 14/15 at the time

So that's what shocking you?

I have two remarks first I was uncomfortable the first time I saw it and the second point is that it wasn't in that movie but in dance and pageant contests, in the latter they sometimes make them wear bikinis which too me is perplexing.

That someone has filmed young girls doing that and then made a movie out of it has shocked me. Seeing the clips wasn’t comfortable viewing and I’d question why any man would want to sit through a film watching kids do that.

I don’t really understand your question to me

Fair enough, I thought the previous poster compared them as films, which didn’t really interest me to be honest

I'm asking you which part shocked you, that's literally the question.

And the movie is about the fact that you should be uncomfortable because it isn't right for kids to do that in real life, which they do. That's why the main character leaves the group at that point of the movie.

Where did I say I was shocked in the first place? And then I told you what shocked me anyway

Why does it seem like you’re agreeing me but coming across slightly dickish?

I asked you a simple question, since when is that dickish? How am I supposed to understand your point of view if I don't know where you are coming from? Am I supposed to assume instead of asking?

Mate , ok I read you wrong. I wrote what I thought of the film and how it was shot in a few posts, you asked is that’s what’s shocking me. I never said I was shocked, just that I thought it was disgusting. I still replied saying what could have shocked me and to try and understand you.

I just didn’t understand what you were getting at

edit: also, I’ve read our conversation back and seen youve edited more to your post that makes it seem less blunt. Without an edit mark :)

Finding something disgusting is being shocked, outraged by it. In this case that's not a bad thing, so I don't get why you would have a problem with that term. As I said, that's the point, it's the proper reaction, the one that the movie is supposed to provoke. It seems to me that some saw a glorification that isn't in the movie.

In theory after watching the movie everyone should think that they don't want their siblings, kids, nephews, nieces or grandchildren to experience that.

I’m still agreeing with you, and can see what you mean by shocked/ disgusted. I’m just not shocked a film like this has been released.

I don’t know about the glorification of it, like I said I havnt seen the film. just the few scenes that I did see in the vid posted earlier shocked me :) Whether that was glorifying it or condemning it

Seen couple of videos. It’s distasteful at best. What cnut thought it would be a good idea to film 11 year olds dancing in a provocative way. Weird.

It’s a strange thread. Suppose the film has achieved one of its aims of being controversial and getting people talking about it

This Cuties controversy got me thinking of the this young girl. Before I'd heard of her case I didn't even know that such pageants existed. So weird!
And this is with the parents help and encouragement. And they're even younger.
