The Former United Youth/Reserves Thread

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr has been called up to Portugal's U15s for the first time. One of their games is against England where he & JJ Gabriel will reunite.

Ethan Laird seems to have a cracking season with Birmingham too. He's just 23. I think he'll be a PL player in two years, seems to finally have put his injury troubles behind.

Zidane Iqbal and Oyedele are also doing very good at their respective clubs. expect both to get good moves.
Just on the latter two, I think Ten Hag has the worst talent ID I've ever seen when you think of the players he ran out of the club in comparison to the players he introduced. We were screaming for a deep lying press resistant midfielder and despite being one of our most impressive players in pre-season Iqbal was never given any proper chance to prove himself. Now he's I think the third best progressive U23 player in Europe and getting rave reviews after a slow start.

Similarly with Oyedele, crying out for physical players good in duels and he's let go for a pittance. I keep seeing highlight videos where he's sweeping up everything in sight in midfield and could have saved us a bomb on Ugarte. Meanwhile, he introduced players like Antony, Mount and Amrabat and the two least physically imposing giants ever in Hojlund and Wout Weghorst who I'd doubt have scored a header between them for us.

But in fairness - these players werent good enough to get gametime at United - Iqbal is 22 and he has had a good season, but there is nothing to indicate that he would get gametime at United. As for Oyedele - he plays in Poland, and he has to dominate a lot more to even come close to being good enough for United.

So we have made some strange decisions - but it was the right decision to let them go. If they turn into great players - we will still make a lot of money on them - but we probably wont

We were bare bones in midfield and Iqbal was probably the standout player on our pre-season tour. That was also the only time I've seen a Ten Hag United team click. He could have at least rewarded him with some minutes in a cup to see if he could cut it. From memory, so could be wrong, Oyedele came on in the FAYC final and turned the game around with his energy. He definitely looked promising and was a good profile fit for Ten Hag's side. Oyedele was very good against Chelsea in both legs so its not as if he's some kind of flat track bully.

The other thing that annoyed me were the insultingly low fees we received. There was something sniffy about the Iqbal one in particular given Ten Hag's association with Utrecht and his agency. I didn't hear about sell on fees or buy backs for those two so could be wrong but doubt either of their clubs are going to get massive fees given the leagues their in so doubt we'll see that much money from any future sales.

But you have to remember the players they are now, or will be in a year or two, aren't the players we let go. They'll be a lot better for the experience of playing.

You can't at United, have a team full of youth players. Unless they're ridiculously talented at a young age it doesn't work.

We haven't got the leeway for them to spend years learning their trade in our first XI.

Not only that - he has had an insane season. Before this season he had scored 1 goal in total - and suddenly he got 18 goals in 36 games

Good for him, always liked him. Decent target man I always thought.

Ethan Galbraith's Leyton Orient who is managed by Richie Wellens beats Oliver Norwood's Stockport on penalties to go to Wembley for the League One play-off final. They will play Chalton or Wycombe.

Galbraith has host of interests from Championship clubs anyway so expect him to be there next season regardless.

Jack Kingdon played for Stoke's U21s yesterday. Unsure if on trial or not.

Always really liked him. Half the EFL should be after him, can easily play at League One level.

Luca Scanlon off the mark for Burnley U18, converting a free kick

Siem Eyob-Abraha scored a brace for Sheffield United against Chelsea's 18s today. Started the season with 4 in 4.

I'm pleased for all these lads who still have a career in the game.

There's over 130 players on the books of professional clubs around the world right now who have come through our youth system.

Let's hope it continues.

Congratulations on a very good career Corry!
