The Game's Gone thread

Football transfers used to be completely out of the blue. You'd get home from school and there's Andy Cole stood next to Fergie having signed for United.

Turbo posting nobheads like Romano and his "Here we Go" bollocks have ruined it.

Games Gone.

You forgot teletext something something.

Romano making money out of reporting absolutely nothing with each tweet. Nothing more than an engagement farmer.

Particularly gross after Jota died when he was just quoting every single tribute made by players/managers/pundits in a new post of his own.

I'm surprised Romano hasn't been offered the Masterchef job, he seems the type.

Did agents always parasite the game so much? I get they are the player's advocate and the players should make as much money as possible, and we live in a capitalist world.

But, was it around the last 25 years they have influenced so much and profited so much , or had it been going on much longer?

Spanish FA approves plans for La Liga match in USA

Villarreal's La Liga match against Barcelona in December could become the first European league fixture to be played abroad after the Spanish football federation approved plans to host the game in the United States.

The RFEF will now seek permission from Fifa and Uefa to move the game to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, which is scheduled to host seven matches at the 2026 World Cup.

This is ridiculous. La Liga selling their soul to the yanks.

Who loses the home advantage? Who gets the additional revenue and how will this be decided in the future? Is there possibility for an Almeria vs Betis in the USA?

Reminiscent of that shit idea the Premier League had about 10 years ago, of the "39th game" whereby every team would play an extra game, in the USA. I'm sure the PL would love to resurrect this idea ££$$.

Suppose Thomas Partey may sit out that match

They were as parasitic as they are today. However, trends have given them more tools and room for manoeuvre: more money in football, more teams in European competitions, Bosman and foreigner caps eliminated...

Most squads were pretty stable and ins/out were surgical. If you weren't Italian and wanted to play for Sacchi's Milan tough shit as Rijkaard, Gullit and van Basten were already there. Cruyff had to keep choosing whether to play Koeman or Laudrup along with Romario and Stoichkov. The greatest scope for mobility was with nationals within the top leagues, but that was naturally affected by loyalty to your local/boyhood/academy club (wages weren't such that you could overcome that as easily as today).

On paper, any transfer is possible and hugely lucrative today. Add social media to the mix and how business models have turned to traffic/clicks over quality. Parasitic agent meets breaking story thirsty reporters.

There's not a single development that has run counter to parasites living off the game. Thus, game's gone, unsurprisingly.

Yep, the 39th game was a really bad idea as it effected sporting integrity. For instance, Liverpool would probably get Burnley (or the equivalent) every year for their one whilst UTD/City/Chelsea/Arsenal/Spurs/Villa (or whoever the strongest non-Big 6 club is) would probably play each other on cycle every three years.

Perhaps it's time for Football's equivalent of Rubgy League?
Get rid of Fifa, Uefa and put in some concrete rules regarding the game and refereeing.

And who would run that? Sure in the first few years it may work but corruption/bending of the rules would start to seep in again at some point.

ive just set up a league called “proper football”

its english men only and as a fan its a fiver (cash only) to get in you can only buy carling or stella and bacon roll or pie (cash only) none of the players are allowed on social media and the only celebration allowed when scoring is the shearer one arm raise no hugging or kissing or dancing or any other forms of poofery

all transfers to be negotiated in a pub car park meat raffle to follow all games to be shown only on dodgy firesticks

And you get booked if you show any sign of pain after a tackle

But John from Nigeria is allowed because he's one of the good ones.

Some of the modern terminology is just stupid. Half space? Feck off. Space is space.

On field, these theatrical ballerinas collapsing in agony when barely touched by a defender's shadow.

People ‘watching’ their football through reaction and tic tacs videos on YouTube.

Supporting your club seemingly more about opinion than enjoyment.

Infestation of Xg and PSR bores.

Games gone

You've already been beaten to it by 'Norf FC'.
He even has sosij rolls.

This game is a proper throwback. Palace have been pinging in the long throws - and now FFK do it too. Drying the ball with a towel and everything. Class.

From BBC live text on the palace game. If that's class we are fecked.
