The Great United Fire Sale (nth edition)

Hopefully, we can announce Antony and Sancho soon. That, together with the proceeds from Alvaro, Elanga, Oyedele etc should give some impetus for incomings.

That leaves Garna and Rashford. I have to believe that someone will come in for Garna. If we can get one of them sold and maybe the other one on a loan, that should be a decent outcome for the summer in terms of outgoings.

Apparently we are about to get another £2.08m from the sale of Maxi Oyedele.

The pot keeps getting bigger and bigger!

The Rashford loan should free up a whopping £16.9m/year in wages.

Now we need Sanco, Antony and Garnacho sales to get things moving.

Unfortunately, we would have hope for freeing up 16.9m in wages and 40m transfer fees to funds our transfers.

I don't see us getting any money for anyone except Garnacho. The hopes of getting something for the likes of Antony, Sancho and Malacia are fading by the day.

Getting rid of Garnacho won’t be an issue , Sancho will end up on loan as will Antony and Malacia will leave for a nominal fee. I can’t see any been at the club after deadline day.

we can’t make it any clearer to them given their situation at Carrington and then not being on the plane.

Don’t envisage a single one of them still at Carrington after the transfer window closes

Sancho is going, he has a number of Italian suiters, they aren’t in a rush as they want him for peanuts.

Anthony has two who want him in Spain athletico and Betis, we may have to lower the 30m fee.

Gaernacho worries me. I think we’ll loan him out.

Malacia we might have to just pay out his contract. Can’t even see him get a loan.

All of them will be gone by September 1st, I’m very confident of that.

That they’ll have left for what fans or the club were hoping for is an entirely different matter.

We should also be listening to offers for Hojlund, Mount, Onana, Bayindr and Shaw. They are just as bad, they just haven't acted like idiots.

I was not confident that we will be able to sell Rashford or Sancho but was more confident about Antony and Garna. But my confidence is going down everyday. If Betis was really keen on Antony, they may have worked out something by now.

Garna - no strong links but I am still somewhat optimistic.

Sancho requires divine intervention at this stage

Our players seem unsellable, no one in Saudi wants them and European teams are not prepared to pay much if they do want them. Reality most of these guys will leave on a free once their contracts expire, we have been so badly managed as a club for the last 12 years it defies belief. We’ve had resources other clubs could only dream of and completely squandered our financial and economic advantage.

They'll be gone. But the millions dollar question is whether it'll be permanent or on another loan. We need sales. Loans hardly do us any good.

But I believe Garnacho has had the least interest from teams.

Have Antony or Malacia?

I get it with the other 3, but surprised with these two. As far as I was aware, they haven’t said or done anything out of line - just simply unwanted.

I think he has had interest. Either clubs are waiting for us to reduce the price or he is asking for too big a salary.

What interest? Amorim can’t even fart without there being 200 tweets and 30 articles written about it within the hour, yet there’s been absolutely nothing regarding Garnacho. There’s been so little interest, journo’s can’t even be bothered to make up fake stories about him being linked to a move away.

No, those two have not to my knowledge.

Malacia especially is on his last year and is not on a big contract either, we just want to get some money for him it seems instead of letting him go for free next year.

Shaw and Mount have been perma-crocks for 2 seasons and are on big wages, no one is touching them. I expect Bayindir will go, but no one will notice or care; stuck with Onana.

Hojlund is the only significant one. If we signed a striker, he might leave, but probably loan + option.

Last week didn't turn out as I hoped but maybe this week will be 'Sell week'. It's flabbergasting all these clubs taking us for mugs and waiting till the last minute to get cheap loan deals. We surely have developed a reputations and need something to change it; even if it is as dramatic as letting a couple of these dingles stay in the reserves for a season. It could very well be some short term pain for a lot of long-term gain.

Please sell someone!

I agree, players and clubs will keep doing this to us unless we make a stand and dont let any of them go on a last minute loan deal. Leave on a permanent deal or sot the season out. It will cause short term pain but it will stop clubs taking us for mugs down the line

I hope that's the plan this summer. Our way or you play for the reserves for the next 6 months to a year.

I don't think it's strictly true. Getting back to winning ways, creating a healthy professional culture, and signing players with the right attitude on sensible wages, will fix this issue long term.

Alex Crook reporting Mainoo may be sold this window - really hope not - but there is clearly something wrong with him benched and getting no minutes despite the game situation calling for his creativity around the box

Ruben defensive in post game interviews and rather unconvincing suggesting he’s in competition for a place with Bruno - that Doesn’t seem like his best position but even if that is the part fit he pitch Ruben wants to play Him Bruno was so bad yesterday losing the ball dallying in possession and just losing hIs head he could easily have been substituted for Mainoo

We have to be pretty aggressive to see this through.
We need 50m for Garnacho, 40m for Antony and 20m for Sancho. Anything less and we are mugs when you look at the fees being paid for certain players this month.

It’s quite a situation the past administration and the current leadership team have created

A lot is of course a function of poor recruitment and terrible management of the players in terms of develeopment of young players and the contracts they have been offered BUT the bomb squad concept has made it a lot worse

Sancho seems destined to see out his last year at circa £12m and the best option would appear to be a loan to clever some of that cost but no transfer fee

Rashford at Barca on loan with full package covered is better than Sancho but to have a player with his talent/profile but who has under performed on a loan with option to buy at a discount is awful

Antony has performed on loan in Spain but does not look equipped for the Prem in which all the clubs with transfer funds play so must be a decent chance he’s yet another loan

Garnacho is a terrible situations - on low wages relatively £50k pw so could be held but seems intent on force ing a £25m move to Chelsea which would represent at least a £25-45m undervalue on what he was worth as a 20 year old performing promisingly

Rasmus seems to be yet another loan with option

Malacia is sadly a footnote in all of this but no obvious market seems to exist

Bruno is in demand in Saudi supposedly but doesn’t feel like he’s going to leave this window despite the major questions over his fit in the team structure and the fact that unequally amongst this group his value seems to be high compared to his value to the team playing in the position Ruben seems determined to play him in

Mainoo is another on supposedly low wages at £20k pw and has 2 years left so being forced to offload him at anything other than a premium seems daft but if the core group are only going to be loaned with little chance of material transfer fees coming in this window maybe they take the relatively small fee

Lot of responsibility to share around for this situation but it’s quite a disaster financially

There is no chance in hell of us getting those fees. Sancho is quite happy not playing football for a start

Any actual fees paid in 2025 will be limited - as I set out above the only players likely to attract fees rather than loans with options/obligations are Mainoo Garnacho and Bruno and in the case of Garnacho if he refuses to consider any club but Chelsea that could be an offer (£25m in today’s reports ) too low for any sane club to accept

If UTD sell Garnacho for £25m he stays a season and plays limited minutes and then is sold on next summer for over £50m - it’s the Chelsea business model - they are part playing asset trading house - and they are at least so far making a decent fist of it

Sancho in chill mode and doesn't care.

We are getting 40m max for Garnacho after telling the whole world that the manager wants him out.

No way are Betis coming anywhere close to 40m for Antony. Another loan, this time with an obligation which is really an option, is the most likely scenario.

I’m not going to argue about the absolute sh*tshow we’ve been, but there are bomb squads at other clubs. What are Chelsea going to do with £300k Sterling? Nkunku is still there. Then there’s Phillips and Grealish at City, Zinchenko at Arsenal.

The stratification of football finances, especially in wages, has created this situation because the small group of elite are paying way more. As such, if a signing doesn’t work out, it’s very hard to shift them back down the ladder to the footballing middle class, especially in this new era of PSR and FFP.

We’re in a bad spot, worse than most because we’ve been omnishambles, but we’re not completely unique. Can see clubs taking the new Chelsea route of lower base salaries and more bonuses going forward.

It looks like we have a big pipeline of players that we will be getting rid of over the next 12 months

1. Sancho - contract will expire next summer
2. Casemiro - contact will expire next summer
3. Antony - loan with obligation this summer
4. Garnacho - sale this summer
5. Rashford - loan with option
6. Hojlund - loan with conditional obligation
7. Malacia - probably loan with option
8. Onana - Sale next summer
9. Mainoo - stalled contracts. Could leave next summer
10. Bruno - noises starting to get louder

That leaves Lammens, Bayandir, Maz, Dalot, Yoro, De Ligt, Maguire, Heaven, Licha, Shaw, Dorgu, Ugarte, Amad, Mount, Mbeumo, Cunha, Zirkzee, Sesko

That doesn’t leave a lot of players at the club particularly given Licha, Shaw, Mount are very injury prone, Bayandir may leave and Maguire contract is up next summer (but will likely get extended).

We have some buying to do next summer.

We prolly save £50m+ just in wages from those players all leaving. Hopefully Bruno fetches at least £65-70m next summer. Another £30-35m from the sale of others. That’s take us to around £150m net.

How is possible to be this bad in selling? This is highest level on incompetence.

Finally, looks like there is going to be some movement here in the final four days of the window.

- Garnacho to Chelsea
- Rasmus to Napoli (Loan + conditional obligation)
- Antony to Betis
- Malacia to Elche (Loan)
- Sancho to nowhere
- May be loans for Onana and Mainoo too.

Will update the prices in the OP when they are confirmed.

Finally a chance to update the OP after waiting the entire summer. Hopefully, a few more before the window shuts down tomorrow.
