The left-winger market…

Lacey is no where near ready or he’d be getting more game time
He's going to be a full time first team player, training with the first team next season. I presume he will get game time here and there. Carefully managed.

I’m generally curious why is the left wing getting preferred over right wing. Cunha and Dorgu are better than Diallo and Mbuembo in my opinion. If it was me I’d prefer a right winger
i tend to agree with the newb
diallo a bit inconsistent
mbuemo out of form, but i trust in him to get back into form next year
cunha and dorgu seem more consistent

id be more looking for another striker not a winger, like what about Lewi? He's out of contract soon.

Winger who can play on both sides to a high level. Generally I don't think there is much between the 3 we have, but yeah Cunha has finished the season best of them. He's the best in big games but also is wildly inconsistent. Wouldn't complain in either case, but definitely need a winger in.

Rather fix the backline and midfield first. I mean we’ve just spent £130m on two “ready-made” wide players in their prime. It doesn’t make sense to allocate another significant fee to the wing the very next summer. Never mind the fact that we need an experienced CF deputy to Sesko.

I honestly see Mbeumo more as competition to Sesko than an actual winger. He's not great out wide.

We need a CB, id keep Dorgu as a LB to compete with Shaw, 3 midfielders and a winger IMO. CB wouldn't be as big of an issue if De Ligt could be trusted fitness wise, but I think we have to act as if he'll be out all of next season too and just replace him, bonus if he returns.

The right side in particular have been very ineffective the last few months. Cunha has got better from a slow start.
If we could I’d get the lad from Everton that can play both sides

Mbeumo is really poor as a lone striker. Doesn’t have the overall game for it at all.

And while I agree that we should give Dorgu a run at LB I would still prioritize midfield (at least two if not three), an experienced and reliable CB, a technically adept RB (Dalot and Maz can be cover for both sides) and an experienced CF.

We’d do well to accomplish most never mind all of that. No room in the budget for another winger.

I agree but surely we just have to hope that one of if not both of Mbeumo/Amad get it together next season. See my previous post as well. I just don’t see how there is any budget for another winger this summer.

I know many are against Leao due to consistency question marks, but at the prices being quoted - I wouldn’t dismiss him entirely. What I do know about Leao is that he certainly has a ceiling that is above our other options. His ‘on his day’ level is special, and the winger market is such where any team who wants to get a truly elite option will need to speculate and pick up a Cat C. There are no sure things that are available, and there is probably a big Mbeumo market where you would end up spending 60-80m on another good but not that good player. Players like Anthony Gordon. We have enough of that in the forward areas.

I liken Leao’s situation to Paris speculating on Dembele. His stock was not particularly high at the time. But he had shown, at times in his career - that he at least had the level in him. Circumstance had made him available at an affordable price and they went and got themselves an elite forward. I’m by no means saying Leao is a guarantee, but at 25 years old at £45m - it could be extremely smart business as it does at least have the potential to pay off. And it paying off means you get a £100m+ player, as opposed to buying more players who even at their best, simply do not have that in them.
He's actually 26 and turns 27 next month, you'd expect him to be a lot more refined and consistent, but he's not. He's also really lazy, like Rashford levels of lazy.

Would probably cost more than £45m and would want astronomical wages.

It's a hard pass from me.

Forget the rivalry for a minute, why would liverpool sell their best prospect for 55m?
Worth a pun, he was just bought for 6 million pound recently and if they needed some cash for rebuild. I just thought he has that extra pace when he cuts in.

We don’t know where Dorgu is going to play next season as he’s only played a few games on the left wing, if Dorgu plays further forward then we need a left back to rotate with Shaw.

Lacey looked fantastic in his cameos up until the sending off against Brighton in the FA Cup and it’s always been confirmed that Lacey will be a part of the first team from next season, Amad and Mbeumo fell off form wise after AFCON but will better next season.

Dorgu isn't a winger...he should be playing LB and pushing to start over Shaw

now that leaves you really with Diallo and Mbuemo as true wingers(who both like to play on the right), Cunha isn't a winger he's a 10 realistically so back up for Bruno but can play on the wing

Lacey will get some chances but can't count on him to play that role so left wing and back up striker are a priority along iwth 2-3 mids to bolster the attack

The Dorgu before his injury would say otherwise. He looked incredibly dynamic further up the field. He probably isn't a consistent scorer, but he didn't look out of place.

I saw Pulisic linked to us a few weeks back, who can play on the left or right side. The version before Christmas looked like he took a big step forward. However, his form has fallen off dramatically. Doubt there are any truths to these rumors now.

I wouldn't advocate for any player just because he is compatriot, but Kerim Alajbegović seems like the safest thing to come from Bosnia ever. I think his limits are far higher even than those of Džeko and Pjanić.

I'd say in terms of style he is closest to Kvaratskhelia, although he has a different personality, seems to have sky high confidence and to thrive on big occasions.

At age of 18, he's probably the best player in Austrian Bundesliga, and has Inter, Napoli and Roma all over him. He is quite obviously going over there, but I am bit surprised he didn't attract clubs like United already.

This lad just has 'it' I reckon. There's something inevitable about him - technique, physique, pace, confidence, I don't know. He might be slightly young right now.

I'm aware that Leverkusen have activated their buy back clause for this Summer. Presumably this rules him out? He'll be a big star though, I'm fairly sure.

Leverkusen have activated the clause which is ridiculous (only 8 milion euros as reported by numerous sources), but they are apparently not planning on integrating him. It is just for resale, which is supposed to be somewhere between 30 and 35 milions. Leverkusen have few of their own talented players who occupy same spots as Alajbegović, and he is quite clearly looking for guaranteed playing time at his age.

And yes, as you said, he is young, and quite raw, I would say. While Salzburg has helped him tremendously to build up individual segments of play and probably confidence, they are an abomination of club. Every time I watched them, every single player was playing for themselves. Kerim stood out because he is by far the best, but he was as guilty as others. So good coach will have to work with him on teamplay a lot. But interesting thing is that he doesn't seem to have these issues playing for Bosnia, perhaps does get carried away sometimes, but rarely. His decision making is excellent for 18 year old when playing for Bosnia, especially since 7 out of 8 games he's appeared in for Bosnia have been do or die games.

As you pointed out nicely, he simply has 'it'.

Guessing you saw my post in the world Cup breakout star thread
But agree. At first I thought he's like Wirtz, but yeah more like Kvara is accurate in the 2 footedness, type of dribbling he does, his level of directness and pace, threat from shots and crosses...

I will say though that I wouldn't want United to sign him, not yet at least. Selfishly prioritizing the Bosnian side of me. He's still so young, he's very lightweight, and has had just 1 senior year so far. Let him develop properly in the Bundesliga or serie A, wherever he decides to go next, and let's see how he makes the step up at the likes of Leverkusen, Napoli, Roma, Inter etc. I think he'll be top class, but there's too much flop potential jumping from Salzburg to United with our uncertain state the past years. Gotta protect his development. Once he makes the next step up, then yeah absolutely. But the last thing id want from him is to come here and sit on the bench and be a fringe player or go out on loan and deal with our managerial churn that might yet happen. Wait for him to establish himself as something closer to a top player first, like Kvara did at Napoli.

I don't think you need to preface your post by saying you're not recommending him solely because he comes from your country, @Bosnian_fan . It's obvious that he's a very talented player.

Definitely the type of winger I'd love here, but, from the sounds of it going off of @bosnian_red 's post, he may not be ready? One to keep an eye on for sure.

Here he is against Aston Villa:

By no means a great game but very promising against PL level opposition regardless.

I definitely see the Kvaratskhelia comparison.

You can see that he's naturally still rough around the edges, but the way he shields the ball under pressure, pulls off those agile turns despite being big, and glides with the ball whilst controlling it with both feet is seriously impressive.

I get @bosnian_red wanting him to go to a smaller club before taking a huge step up to United, but I'm all for cutting out the middle man and just signing him up from Salzburg.

100%

These players are out there. We just need to take a chance on them and have faith that they will fulfill their potential here.

I've seen some clips of Alajbegovic before, he definitely has something about him. The thing he's missing that I'd really like from our next winger is that real burst of explosive pace. Obviously that's not the only quality that matters but it'd be great to have someone who could put the burners on and leave opposition defenders in the dust.

A year ago he was just playing youth football for Leverkusen. Standing out, but still. The prem is a different beast and while I could see him making an impact on the Bundesliga and serie A and even the world Cup this summer, I think the prem would bully him a bit for a couple of years. The talent as you say is obvious, but he needs that intermediate step first to get physically used to the top level.

If United believe in the talent, he's the type you buy and loan back to the Bundesliga or Serie A for a year to make sure he gets the right minutes at a high level like De Bruyne did, mainly due to the physicality issues id see from him. Reserve football too low of a level, benching him for the year just not the right thing either.

Also I'm wary of overrating him due to the bias but I can't praise him highly enough for how good he's looked so far.

Also - Leverkusen already activated their buy back for 6m or so. They're waiting for the world Cup to cash in I think, but still likely for 30m I would guess.

Haha, didn't really see the post, I will check it out definitely now though, but yes, I was hundred percent sure that you must have written something by now

Absolutely before he gets snapped up by Bayern or PSG

Yeah that pace, while he's by no means slow, he's more like Kvara pace wise. Another example of his pace would be Garnacho... Can carry it really quickly and play directly, but isn't that game breaking explosive pace that makes it much easier for young players to make an impact in this league. Which is fine, but yeah just more in terms of immediate impact it might be harder.

Looks interesting and I would love to see us bring in more young talents like this alongside top quality. Teams like Real do it all the time, which is how they have Rodrygo and Vini. Mastantuono, Endrick and Arda are more recent ones.

He played all of two games at LW. In both we were mostly defending and countering, so they weren't really even representative of what a LW would typically do. He was more like an attacking wingback/fullback in those games.

I just don't see how folks can watch Dorgu and think "this guy is a nailed-on LW". He doesn't have the prototypical traits. Look at the top LWs: Mbappe, Vini, Kvara, Lookman, Doku, even Anthony Gordon or Luis Diaz. Does Dorgu play like any of those guys? I don't see the same skill level at dribbling, passing, or shooting.

I think Dorgu is most likely a high end squad player with the flexibility to play several positions. But if he were to stick somewhere, it'd be at LB. He's big, strong, athletic, plays well with space in front of him. He's a lot like Milos Kerkez; some shining moments near the box, but not near enough overall quality where you'd want him as a full-time starting winger.

El Mala has had another good season by the looks of it. 34 games with 12 goals and 5 assists. That’s playing for FC Koln. Although Chelsea seem to be linked at the moment. Direct LW player who can carry the ball well. I thought he might be a good alternative to Semenyo in January but he is predominantly a LW.

Going off that video, he definitely has something special about him. Shoots with power and precision off both feet, looks good in tight spaces, can beat a man but his best traits are his weight of pass and vision. Leverkusen have a gem on their hands.

This little rascal played well against Wales when he came off the bench I believe

Agree with all of this, and I think the importance of bringing in a player who can compete with the quality of the wingers you've mentioned has increased since we've qualified for the Champions League.

Obviously we'll need a bigger squad for the extra games but there's also no point of being in the competition if we don't have the ability to mix it with the best.

Yep changed the game for us, we were a bit shit before he came on, got the assist and then the final pen
