The left-winger market…

Should have gone for Mika Godts, but he is PSG bound now. Should stay far away from Mbaye. His mentality is shit.

if we could get that kid for 50m we should bite off their hands before they change their minds

We seem to have an endless list of players who can play on the left, so can't see anything further happening here - especially with Rashford back in the fold.

Godts doesn’t strike me as an ideal PL winger as you pretty much have to be a P&P player now to be successful there.

Our system relies on having those direct options and his physical profile just isn’t there.

His pace, number of sprints, sprint intensity, explosive accelerations etc just are nowhere near the PL standard. Technical level looks excellent but as a wing option I will not hear that he could have come to the PL and be a success.

He’s also a below average dueller and this is based on Eredivise. The jump is significant and well trodden and failed by many.

All the above may sound like I’m very down on the player, I’m not, it’s just we have to look at profiles now above all else for any squad to work. In a dominant possession oriented and fluid system like PSG, lovely fit. For Carrick’s United absolutely not. Genuinely Dorgu is a better option.

With all of these young wingers we keep getting linked with, I'm starting to wonder if Carrick doesn't see Dorgu there long-term. All these young players will want time to play and Dorgu isn't really good enough to start so they'll all be fighting for the same minutes. Especially for 50M there's going to be guarantees for playing time if you're paying that much

Cunha, Rashford and Dorgu -- in that order for me -- have the LW position under control.

Cunha, Dorgu, then Rashford for me. If the coaching staff believe Dorgu is a winger then he should be developed there He's also showed good potential for the spot. At the end of the day Rashford's future is likely not at United, so we should prioritise Cunha and Dorgu. Outside of that I think Dorgu is a very interesting prospect on the left wing and we should look to see how he develops there. That won't happen if he's 3rd choice, plus he and Cunha have shown that they are capable of holding down that spot this season based on their performances last season. Let Rashford fill in across the front 3 when needed for resting or injuries, then wish him all the best in his next move. Now, if Cunha and Dorgu are stinking out the place, which is unlikely, and Rashford is in spectacular form also unlikely, then sure give him a run.

Fair enough, I stand corrected. I thought the rangers loan stopped him from qualifying.
You just had to continue registering them in the Premier league squad list while they're on loan and it'll count towards their eligibility. It's why Saliba is homegrown for Arsenal.

I accept that as a plausible ordering of their prowess at LW. After all, we literally haven't seen Rashford in a United shirt for two seasons, and what we saw from Dorgu after Amorim was sacked was nothing short of ridiculous.

But if we allow ourselves to assume the Barcelona Rashford, surely Barcelona Rashford > United Dorgu.

You speculate that Rashford's future is likely not at United, but how? Do you foresee Rashford dropping his wage demands by half to 175/week i order to join another club or do you foresee a club paying United 30m plus his 350/week wages? I don't see foresee either happening.

If your power of prophecy is stronger than mine, Rashford is gone and this is a moot point. But if my power of prophecy is stronger than yours then there is no chance falls behind Dorgu, whom I really like, as first call from Carrick when Cunha needs to come off. Unless, of course Rashford decides to down his tools again in which case he's off to train with the kids for two full seasons (or play video games with Sancho), but I really can't see Rashford sabotaging his future and eternal reputation that way.

Which doesn't make much sense to me, but hey, suits me.

Only if you completely ignore what they do out of possession. But what players do out of possession is of huge importance. That's one of the things Carrick clearly likes about Dorgu.

Rashford's contract is up in 2028 and it's safe to assume he won't be getting another one from us, so his future with us is both uncertain and limited. Dorgu's contract is until 2030 with an option for another year.

Rashford will likely get minutes as an impact sub, but as far as I'm concerned he'll have to earn his way past Cunha and Dorgu, with his work both on and off the ball. How we function as a unit in and out of possession is more important than whatever Rashford did with the ball at Barca.

Re wingers. I suspect Carrick long term vision is United having 2 pacey wingers causing havoc and supplying the forwards. He played with Giggs and Ronaldo and would know about the impact of Sharpe and Kanchelskis too. I for one hope that’s the vision at least. I don’t see either Amad or Mbeumo being long term options for the RW and we always seem to be linked with traditional wingers for LW

I wanna see Amad more as a 10 or as an advanced 8 like he does for Ivory Coast, he seems like he could do a good job there

I still see Amad in the mould of a winger, he's actually the best dribbler we have who can beat people consistently with quick feet/ feints rather than pace. Meanwhile Mbuemo is too good of a finisher to not play as a striker/ inside fwd. Definitely not a traditional winger.

The game has changed and so have the tactics. Carrick might try to borrow some principals from Fergie, but not sure he's trying to replicate the exact system. Having two pacy wingers doesn't work if there is no space to run behind which is the state of PL now with almost 14/20 teams.

It’s not going to be exactly the same as then, we only play one forward now. But some top teams have played 2 pacey, tricky wingers at times - Madrid, PSG, Bayern, Liverpool amongst others. Horses for courses

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but the original brief before the transfer window opened was; two CMs possibly three if we move Ugarte, one LW that would be a prospect not a big money signing, a LB and possibly a CB.
CMs. Santos, Tielemans. We cannot move Ugarte and in my humble opinion Toby is of more use to us than a fit Ugarte was anyway.
LW. Tynan Thompson.
LB. ?
CB. If De ligt's op was successful we are stacked here as well and we could give Armer Cup games.

I can only see us getting a LB for no more than 30mil and I would say that would be it.

We also had the 80, 40, 20 reports on midfield. We didn't sell Ugarte, which was the 40, so Santos, Tielemans and Page fits nicely into the 80 and the 20 budget.

I still think net we will spend about 120, so there 70m left post Page signing. I bet there's a big debate about spending the rest of the budget on Hall or making it go further.

Seems like PSG are buying up all the available wingers in the market this summer

He's by far our best and most modern winger... Why would we move him away from there? His main quality is running at full backs down the wing

Neto with a price tag of £100M?? That's laughable

Then again, Morgan Rogers just moved for more

Seeing the CB, LB & CF threads bumped. They're all needed but winger is a must, too. A RW, in my opinion.

We still create nothing outside of Bruno, and we still pose little threat from out wide because our wingers aren't great at dribbling and playing in tight spaces. Rashford, Cunha and Amad are the best in that regard but they're all inconsistent themselves. Every great United team (& top team right now) had at least one winger who dribbled opposition players for fun and put chances on a plate for the CFs. The best we've had in the post Fergie years since Nani and Valencia have probably been Martial in 15/16 and Rashford in 19/20.

This was my position upon starting this thread. We have no top quality natural wide threat. We are short of difference makers in attack. That said, with what we need - it almost certainly cannot be done this summer. I think we may need an in and around 9-figure forward to take us forward.

Sesko is still an unknown quantity in the forward areas - he is a player who could become world class. But the rest have pretty much been weighed and measured now and I’m not convinced that they are of the top drawer.

This season is huge for Amad. Following an outstanding campaign in the season before last, he dipped last term. This is the season where he needs to put it together. He has some great qualities, and certainly has goals in him. He got 10 a couple of seasons back, despite a 2/3 month absence. Last season just 2 I think. He needs to get up to the teens. Aside from him, Cunha and Mbeumo are not about to suddenly turn into something they are not.

This is the summer where Paris are prepared to do business on Barcola and Mbaye but it’s come a summer too early for us. Not sure what the market will look like next summer. Rayan is one to watch, and the likes of Pardo may kick on too. Yildiz could also be on the market. But we need something up there. Some invention.

There is not a better RW than Amad in the Premier League.
That’s not an endorsement (and not true either) given how rubbish the PL is these days. Saka when he’s on it is much better though. Amad hasn’t reached anywhere near those levels and has yet to prove he’s good enough. 2026 has been a poor year for him.

What is your league of choice to watch then as you obviously are not a fan of the PL?

Not a fan? If the big clubs are all quite shit these days that doesn’t mean it isn’t my favourite league. It’s a phase. Amad is miles from a top player. Let’s not pretend he’s reached where he hasn’t. We do this with everyone who performs half decently well.

half decently well?
Is that good or bad?

I feel this summer the main focus was Midfield. Maybe get a LB and RB.. and next season go all out on LW, CF, RW.

Then there's Bruno Fernandes' replacement too maybe.
