The monumental effort of rebuilding

The money might be available in January, but will the player be available in January?
Considering how slow our board are to get a deal concluded, are we really going to be able to sign, for example, Maddison or Rice, in the space of a month, when clubs don't have to sell, and don't want to sell...?
Let's say I wouldn't hold my breath its happening

It might not be anywhere near how we looked in the "good" Ole times last season but it's better than what he inherited.... unhappy players, loads of average players, overpaid, aging.

At the very least, the defence is better, the squad is thinner (admittedly should have had a couple more replacements) and some of the deadwood has been moved on/loaned out which at least sends a message.

Marginal improvement maybe but I still think a bit better. If Ole/the team can get their shit together (better formations, tactics, subs and players putting in some effort), we should challenge top.4 (low ambitions I realise) and hopefully get 2/3 more in next transfer windows.

It's going to be small steps and 2-3 years (min).
That's not low ambitions, that's realistic expectations. You have to set goals to hit on your way to your ambitions - if anyone thinks we should be challenging for the title this year, or even next, they're going to suffer disappointment and, frankly, their thinking is flatly wrong. This organization isn't going to give Ole everything he needs overnight. Period. We know this. Get over it. We're not going to dislodge the ownership, so...

We had Jose. He wasn't getting what he wanted, moaned about it, didn't seem to be advancing the cause and got fired. Now we have Ole. He's (probably) not getting what he wants, but knows he isn't and is soldiering on anyway. Which would you rather have? A manager who's going to fight on in spite of the conditions or give up when he realizes he's been had?

Unless the Glazers and Woodward go full "Major League," Ole might just get things going eventually. It seems that no manager is going to get what he wants.

Our need for players is increasing day by day.

James,McT,Rashford- all should be coming off bench and help the team but we are actually dependent on them to win games.

So it's been 4 years since Klopp took over.

This was his first team sheet.

Mignolet
Clyne-Skrtel-Sakho-Moreno
Lucas - Milner -Can
Lallana-Origi-Coutinho

Is it really any better than what we have now? All we need is a competent manager . Ole is not the man to take us forward.

A modern attacking manager and four players should see us get top four. Two midfielders and two attackers (three if Pogba leaves obviously). Whilst Sancho would ideal I don't think that we have to wait on him or spend the majority of our budget on him leaving us with holes in the squad.

If we get that part right then the following summer 2021 should see us upgrading on Shaw that is if William's doesn't stake a genuine claim over the next year. It would also be the right time to call time on Rashford and/Martial should they still be struggling for consistency. After those two summers I think we should be ready to challenge and be a mainstay in the top 3.

It’s not a monumental effort, there are loads of staff employed to get players in. It’s a dream job. We need to stop thinking of this as a rebuild where we keep getting rid of players. Accept where we are, get properly scouted players for the positions we need to improve, only renew contracts for the very best and high performing ones. Sell those that we don’t want. Get a top coaching manager and a DoF to oversee the direction and club ethos. Don’t pay too high salary so we can still move unwanted players on.

He lost that game (1-2 Crystal Palace) and finished 8th that season. And yes it's far better than the team we had on Sunday.

He also drew 0-0 with European powerhouses Sion in the Europa league having only 6 shots and drew with Exeter in the FA cup. Imagine if we had such results!

Yes and let's not forget the impact a good manager can have on underperforming players. If we get a good manager in with a good coaching staff some of the players we think aren't good enough can be salvaged and made into useful players that can play a squad role.

There is a difference between underperforming and lacking the base abilities similar to the average EPL footballer. A player with some limitations can be useful if the system he plays in take this into consideration:
Only pace merchant in attack --> play counter attacking football.
Slow, but technical players --> play possessionbased football.

Given our current squad we should appoint Mourinho again, sell PP, park the bus and counter attack our way into a 10th place.

Our current squad at full strength would beat that team.

What seems to be lost on people is that against the three top sides we've played, we've actually been the better team of all three.

We're losing to shit but playing better against hard opposition.

Despite the results on the pitch, Ole is doing the necessary job that needed to be done with our squad and taking the hit for it. This is why I feel sorry for him. Its a fecking hard game and when you actually look at his teams for the last little while, is anybody surprised by the results?
