While I’m pissed off about the Smodizc thing I would blame that on the VAR official. I thought the ref had an excellent game. Got almost every single decision correct. A rarity for PL watchers like me. Definitely could have booked a few more Czechs but I prefer a ref to err on the side of being less fussy about bookings.
Very stupid penalty to give away for their first goal, there was no need to tug the player's shirt back there. Let them back in the game.

Manning wasn't the only one to make consequential mistakes last night. Obviously there was the penalties missed, then there was that break where we had them out-numbered and Brown somehow ran 20 yards without ever getting the ball fully under control, then there was that soft foul they scored the second goal from when Brown and Brady had a 2v1 in the corner, two fresh players against someone who was knackered... hold on... Brown... it's all his fault!
Kelleher was glued to his line for their equaliser too.
Seriously though, it was a simple lack of depth that killed us. We had to make subs and we got worse and worse with each sub that came on the pitch. Jimmy Dunne is game as feck but my god is he a limited footballer. Can't think of many teams in these qualifiers giving a player like that any minutes.
It was near post and dropped into a crowd scene. I'm not blaming the keeper for that. It's not his area to defend.

Completely, Ogbene especially was running on fumes after about an hour but there was no one to bring on to do his job. If Johnston had been around to come on for him, if Ferguson was there to take a peno instead of Alan Browne, if, if, if. Even Cullen who I don't think is great by any means could have slowed the game down and kept things ticking over when the Czechs started pushing in the second half and we had none of the ball.
Cullen was a big miss. He's not amazing but we have nobody else to do that job.

It’ll be intersting to see what happens when Ferguson is available again (not much point in saying fit). Would he play him with Parrott? I’m not seeing much from Ferguson the last couple of years to suggest he’s worth unsettling the balance for.
He needs to stay injury free and just play games and score goals.
Maybe a Championship loan next season.

Ferguson just needs to play football. If he ever finds himself again I’d say there’s a place for him in this system. We play with two strikers. Ogbene could give us an attacking option at RWB when we play “lesser” teams (all 3 or 4 of them).
Again I know he was set to take a penalty but Parrott was ran ragged well before the end, to me starting him and then having Ferguson to come on in the last 25-30 min to get physical and draw fouls seems like a good option to have.
Gutted today but at least it's been exciting again. If we can keep this level up we will start making tournaments again. We've a few nice players coming through. Our best players are a good age. We need depth and more control of the ball in the middle of the park to take the sting out of games and the rest will hopefully take care of itself.
Browne and Brady for Taylor and Manning wasn't a good substitution.

Our under 17s beat Poland 3-0 the other day. They did well in the last tournament so there should be good players coming in a couple of years like Jaden Umeh who's 18.
Feel like our youth teams have been doing quite well over the past few years without making the step up to deliver at senior level.
I meant seeing it initially it looked like contact was more in the shoulder/chest area.
That was our first u17 WC and we topped the group. Although I think it expanded.
But still it's a green shoots.
We need a steady stream.
We've a decent group of players but squads a bit thin and lacking top level talent.

It was such an odd incident. I’ve seen a few replays and can’t see any head contact. Although you don’t necessarily need head contact to get knocked out. The brain can get enough of a rattle from a blow to the chest/upper body. Takes an outrageously violent impact though. And, as you said, this one didn’t look like a collision with that sort of impact.
He probably needs to do what Parrot has done and go somewhere to find his form again, possibly the Dutch league if there was any interest. Championship is a waste of time for players like him in my opinion.
Dutch league is a good level of football, with better coaching and he can get European experience. You can see how much it's benefitted Parrot, just being away from all the nonsense of not playing in the PL and the physical intensity of the Championship.
There's potentially good forwards and good defenders in the youth ranks. Some of them are now heading to Europe & England for trials.
I think midfield needs to be the focus over the next couple of years, you can get away with a dodgy defender here and there, or a dodgy fullback, even a misfiring forward. But midfield is the biggest problem with this current Ireland team, has been for years. All you have to do is look at the difference Soucek made to Czechia when he came on.
It's the most important position on the pitch.

A few more going to the continent needed the Scots have half a dozen in the squad playing on the continent. Doesn't necessarily have to be a top league either. Trent Kone Doherty is at Molde now it's somehwere different and he might learn stuff he wouldn't learn in England or Scotland.
Disappointing that Michael Noonan seems to be heading for Celtic especially with offers from the likes of Hoffeneheim were there

They're terrible. Genuine travesty that they're going to the World Cup. Denmark weren't anything to write home about either but at least they have more about them than buying cheap fouls and kicking opponents off the pitch.
