I don't mind who we get as long as they've a good attitude.

If they wait a few years holding out for England and then declare for us, I've no problem with that.

Same as that. These guys played youth football for England, born in England. It's natural to wait and see but then would they rather be a player who gets 5 - 10 caps if any or be an important player for a smaller nation with less pressure?

I think the Ireland team is shaping up nicely. Imagine how good we'd be right now with Rice and Grealish. We'd be right there. It's a pity but hopefully just a steep learning curve and not something we keep repeating.

Lots of these players have one Irish grandparent so might have no real connection to Ireland.

The grandparent could've died when they were 10. Some do have strong connections though like Kilbane and Mick and others.

Also they can go on holiday over the international breaks or work on their fitness or other things.

I think International football was much more prestigious back in the 80s and 90s. It's lost a bit of that prestige.

Also if we qualified for tournaments more often, we'd be much more attractive.

Away trips to Armenia and Georgia and Kazakhstan are worth it if you get to go to the World Cup at the end of it, but we can't really offer that carrot.

I think with one or two more PL level players we will start qualifying again. You're right it is a vicious circle at the minute but you can see shoots of progress now at least
 
it’s a pity Dewsbury-Hall rejected the chance to switch to Ireland. Adding him and Alex Scott to our midfield with make some difference
 
Should be giving Jack Moylan a look for Ireland soon, sealed promotion today for Lincoln so he and Honohan will be in the Championship next season.

Suspect he'll be among those in the camp for the training camp in Spain and game against Grenada. Type of players I think Heimer has in mind for the camp given the PL players won't be available.
 
Speaking of ex-Irish managers. I often wonder what Steve Staunton does nowadays. Does he have a normal job? There’s certainly no sign of him working in football. He seems to do some of these speaking gigs, but having heard him speak in the past, I don’t see that being where he makes his fortune.

He lost all his money in those tax / media investment schemes and filed for bankruptcy about 10 years ago.

Last I heard of him he was being made into whiskey.

It's not an international tournament without a small team playing a near 40 year old that makes you go "he's still playing? They must have no one coming through". He could be our Goran Pandev at the next Euros.

Apparently he wants to keep playing that's why he's left Everton and isn't talking a coaching job there.
 
New Zealand called up a 36 year old playing for Braintree Town in the Conference to their World Cup squad, Seamus could move there if he wants to stay in Heimir's thoughts. Or he could move back to the LOI if he wants to be disregarded entirely.
 
What in the ever-loving feck is Cunningham waffling on about? He's spent the entire match rambling bollox for nothing for inordinate lengths of time. The man's absolutely bewildering.
 
If it was a competitive game I'd give the Ref the benefit of the doubt regarding Moylan's red. But yellow, a talking too and a quick word to Heimer to take him off would have sufficied. Studs were up but it wasn't malicious
 
Fair fecking play for the post match discussion on RTE acknowledging the tennis ball protest and having a very grown up discussion about Israel. They even held up one of the balls for the camera. I have a real soft spot for Richie. A really thoughtful and empathic dude. Poles apart from the average ex pro on the other side of the pond (although shout out to Gary Lineker, to be fair)
