The New Official Republic of Ireland Football Thread

"I'll tell ya who wrote it, Rod Liddle! He's the guy who left his wife and ran off with a young one"

"Ah ye can't be saying that now Eamon"

One of the great Irish TV moments and peak RTE Panel.

20 years fecking hell :o

Parrott and Ferguson both on the scoresheet this weekend.

Need to get JOB and Coleman to persuade KDH to shift.

Seems like he's no interest.

He's 27 and has never played for England at any level though.

Is he a quality player?

I'm hoping someone will appear. We need a right back also probably. Coleman's on his last legs. Festy would have to improve a lot.

Other than that we're ok.

He would be good enough for Ireland. I'd be surprised though if he ever got an England callup despite him being adamant that's his goal.

I told him where my head is at and that is that I see myself as English and the biggest dream of mine would be to play for England.

"It would be unfair of me to keep saying, 'I want to play for the Republic of Ireland', when that's probably not what I want to do, as much as I respect Irish people, their fans and the way they are. It just wouldn't feel right for me.

"I want to give myself a chance of playing for England, which is a lifelong dream.

Qualify for the World Cup and maybe he will change his mind...

If he's not even being called up during his peak years, he never will.

Too much competition in CM and they're all young like Wharton, Anderson, Scott, Bellingham etc...

His ship has sailed.

God I miss the good ol days of RTE Champions League nights

Pure chaos, them all shouting over each other. Bill in the middle stirring the pot haha

@Name Changed has played an absolute blinder here.

You have to get lucky now and again. I booked direct to Prague for €55 in the hope of getting Czechia or Slovakia. It worked out. Getting home is a bigger issue. Anyway two nights in Prague. Then I jump on a bus to Dresden (€12 tickets already booked on Flixbus), spend Friday night there and do a parkrun Saturday morning. Flight out of Berlin that evening for €185.

Legend.

Friday night would be better in Berlin maybe
but who knows, maybe Dresden will be rocking.

Troy Parrott dinked and missed a penalty to equalize in the last minute. Ferguson starts vs Hojland. May see the same in March.

Mexico, South Africa, South Korea is a very winnable group.

If we qualify the KO times Irish time will be 3am, 5pm and 2am. The publicans will be raging
Not sure

Won’t a load of them look for special licensing to open all night. So they will have consumers in from evening and all night into the wee hours

Feel sorry for the staff

Also companies can write those days off, no chance anyone coming into work next day

Considering our own local regional development officer just stepped aside and quite a few others around the country being let go. Can see another generation of young players being left behind, don't be surprised if the senior squad is a total mess in a few years.

Seen lots of comments that they're unhappy with his fitness and don't think he's looking after himself properly.

He’s been poor for a considerable amount of time now. There’s no two ways about it.

He should probably look at Troy Parrott’s example to try and rejuvenate things.

Boy wonder scores again. 2 in his last 3 starts.
I was off yesterday and watched the match. I thought Ferguson was superb in the first half, albeit against a poor opposition, before being replaced on the hour mark by Dovbyk (his main rival for a starting spot) who then went off injured before the end.

It seems to be coming together for him now but there’s still a very long way to go. He’s been average at best until the last few weeks.

I’ve said it before but he’s the best at saving penalties that I’ve ever seen.

Champagne football on Spotify as an audiobook.

Couldn't recommend this more. Read it on holiday a few years back and inhaled it.

Could be a brilliant film one day never mind the saipan one they have done.
