The Overlap | Duncan Ferguson: Red Cards, Bust Ups & Goodison Park Memories | Stick to Football 79

Why is the Sol Campbell interview so awkward? There's something off about this guy.

He really does seem like he has a chip on his shoulder about literally anything and everything

He doesn't get that he is not so popular/loved because he comes across as an absolute arrogant bellend

This interview is showing quite clearly why he doesn't get managerial positions.

My favourite one is the Chiellini interview. What an amazing character!

The De Rossi and JJ Watt interviews were pretty good too.

Rory had a meltdown about United’s new stadium. Does he not realise United are a global attraction with the likes of Madrid and Barca.
Tbh can’t remember him having a meltdown but I recall him saying teams who’ve got a new stadium have had no success in the aftermath.

Had to do a double take when I saw him on the thumbnail as a guest. Completely unsuited to it. Not gonna bother watching it. Sol Campbell is a complete tosser with a serious chip on his shoulder. The audacity to suggest the hatred he has from Spurs fans for his Arsenal move was a “colour thing”. Everything that comes out of his mouth is verbal diarrhoea.
Maybe il watch it for car crash purposes….

Can just imagine owners would meet him and just think he’s going to be so high maintenance/difficult it’s just not worth the hassle.

14 mins in he’s left west ham aged 13 because someone randomly said to him after training that he should cheer up because the West Indies were up 2-1?!

Wasn’t gonna listen to the Sol Campbell interview but it sounds like such a car crash I might listen now.

When Sol was at Newcastle in 2010, he went to the petrol station my stepdad worked at and put the wrong fuel in his car, my stepdad then said he'll probably need to call someone to come and get it drained out and Sol said it was fine and drove off. Later that day it came out that he had broken down just further down the road!

Probably not true but I could imagine him doing that

Comes across as a man desperate to be loved but he's so abrasive with a huge stick up his arse, he can't see himself as the massive tool he is.

Did that half wit Paul Merson have a meltdown about our new stadium as well? Some clowns just cannot bring themselves to say a good word about United, probably cause we ruined football for them throughout the 90s and 00s.

Sol just says "don't know" to people every time they ask him to elaborate on something ridiculous that's just come out of his mouth

He's a bit insufferable to be honest. Definitely the least relaxed person I've seen on this show.

Almost all of the panel made awkward faces when sol would answer, but i find that they werent expecting anything different really, theyll be used to him being a bit weird

Agree to a certain extent, but there’s no doubt there is a racial element to some of it, whether then exacerbates it 1% or 100% is tricker to quantity. A racist Spurs fan would surely hold more hatred of him moving across the divide than a white player doing it; even though they’d despise a white player too.

Why would there be a racial element? He moved to the sworn enemy. He just loves to play the race card any chance he get's, and giving any kind of credence to him just feeds into his delusions about himself. Odd that's a tory too.

All involved very much glossing over the fact United should have had 3 players sent-off (on top of the nonsense penalty which they did talk about) in the Invincibles game.

Feel like this isn't quite as bad as I thought it might be from an awkwardness point of view but he doesn't half talk some shite and doesn't make a lot of sense (and as others have pointed out just says 'I don't know' when asked to elaborate). Definitely a very weird guy, which we are all well aware of anyway.

To be fair I’m pretty sure Cole absolutely hacked Ronaldo in the box in that game too.

Maybe the best ever game in the prem! What a match.

I wish they showed him this and got a commentary from him.

He’s an absolute thundercnut, so I’m glad I won’t have to watch this to be proven otherwise

To be fair, I didn't know about the Spurs court case stuff so that was interesting.

I really didn't like how he would be asked a question, answer it, Gary would clarify his answer and then he'd say "no that happened after" or something. Answer the fecking question correctly then!

I get what you’re saying but it seems a bit of a never ending road to go down that.
You could basically apply that to every single situation where a black player is deemed to have ‘wronged a club’ who also happen to have white fans.

You could also basically apply it to any situation in life involving a black person.

is that stuff about Tottenham trying to frame him the complete nonsense that it sounds, or was it proven?

Was wondering that myself, how on earth did that story stay hidden till now if it’s true. What benefit did Tottenham stand to gain by framing him as well?

You probably have to be a bit of a weird personality to compete at the level he competed at. Its the same with Keane and Neville - they're kind of lunatics too, I guess a more charming lunatic in Keane's case.
He's an odd dude and i expected to hate him but hes just kind of interesting

There's odd and then there's Sol Campbell. I meet a lot of these celebs where I work and some are nice and some are not so nice. Campbell and Denzel Washington were neither... They were just strange. Like they're some kind of robot rather than a human being.

I think i meant top end sports people. Celebrity is probably an extra layer of crazy.

Okay. All right. I'm putting cases on all of you bitches! Huh. You think you can do this shit? Schwein! You think you can do this to me?!

Weird guy is Sol.
Bro thinks he’s the main character of the football universe.

"I was thinking about going to Forest". Were they in for you?......No. Why did you want to go to Forest?....dunno. Was Clough manager then?.....Dunno”.

Props to Neville and his interview skills for squeezing all he could out of him. Clearly all 5 of them thought he was a helmet, Gary touched upon at the end with the awkward comments.

Henry is very chill and funny. As is Federer, Kane etc. Sol just a crazy dude.

Funny how opinions differ.
Great player (at Highbury) but Personally, I find him arrogant, cringey and speaks without substance.
