Extremely embarrassing to do so.

I can’t imagine Vince, or any other owner of a sports team to tweet something like that.

TNA mk2.
AEW is WCW circa 95/96... "where the big boys play" nonsense.

They've drafted in Schiavone and its full of lame, childish digs at WWE.

As bad as WWE currently is they are still desperately trying to piggy back off of WWE's fan base.

This is without a doubt the worst condition wrestling has been in probably ever.

More ratings stuff, Raw had its lowest rating in its history this week.

Not surprised. It's the worst it's been in my memory. My viewing has fallen off a cliff since Bayley (she is dog shit, by the way) and Sasha have been on multiple shows in multiple segments every single week.

Given I hated Bayley with every part of my being I’m concerned that I now enjoy their new stick.

However Raw in general is absolute piss right now. What the hell is an Eye for an Eye match and how are they going to pull this off.

I feel like they’ve ruined Drew already. He wan interesting character when he first came back with Dolph and I feel like there was good ideas there. This change to him being a face has just killed my interest in him.
It slightly picked up again with Bobby Lashley but for whatever reason he went from serious contender to beating up Richard, R-Truth and Alexander.

I couldn’y give a rats arse what is going on with Seth and Ray and find myself asking why aren’t guys like KO, Alister being wasted in that segment instead of positioning themselves for a crack at Drew.

I mean its not. In 2001 or so there was only WWE. Now theres so much around the world and easily accessible, with actual wrestling being near the best its ever been.

If you look at the ratings and booking patterns WWE is WCW 2000. But unlike WCW 2000 the future is secured for several years due to the tv deal

WWF and WCW would have digs at each other the whole time of the ratings war. Did you guys not even watch?

Even with just WWE it was still putting out better content than 99% of the content found anywhere today.

Most matches these days are just spot fests, with little story telling. The exception being Takeover shows.

Nah, everything about AEW's current product screams dubya-c-dubya. Hell, Cody even went on record recently to state we have to be careful not slip into the "Jim Herd" era.

Up to quite recently I was an avid wrestling fan for over 30 years.

It legit saddens me to see the state of pro wrestling currently with indy smark fans trying to convince me that Orange Cassidy and Ambrose are legit stars

The more I watch FTR the better I realize they are. I found them boring before, but they really know how to use their strengths in a match and are very good technically. And I'll always find it hard not to rate someone who is technically very good and all their stuff looks well done.

The matches I saw were against DIY, and in those matches Gargano stood out and the rest of them looked okay. Perhaps its the freedom for FTR to do more of what they want to do and the superior quality of the tag teams they're working with, far more flashy and impressive. The contrast with FTR's straight forward and technical style is much better

Revival were great in NXT. Had superb matches. Unless you only watched them on Raw, thats an odd (but expected I guess) statement.

Any wrestler talking about ratings and demos during a show is just weird. I get talking about sellouts etc as a heel. But its like how WWE/Vince talked about ratings dropping cos Corbin was in charge, or WCW talking about bad ratings so they will have outsiders wrestle porn stars.
Just bizarre.

Jericho is 50 in November and will be outside the demo soon. Mid life crisis.

It's the kind of niche shit that ensures they will never grow. Constantly pandering and winking to to the ultra-hardcore, and tiny, fanbase they have.

And this is a big problem with wrestling in general today. It's constantly pandering to smarks, it isn't really growing its fan base at all, its the same small group of hardcore fans just investing more money rather than trying to catch the eyes of the casual fan.

This goes for both AEW & WWE even.

The shows need fans back. I think aew has done it better overall

Also hangman page is great. Can't wait until his singles run

Kenny omega doesn't look like a star at all. If he had joined WWE and looked like this wwe would have been ragged on.

MMA fighters like McGreggor, or boxers like Mayweather talk about making money and ratings so why wouldnt wrestlers in kayfabe? Those are the things that get them a good deal on a new contract. Some fighters dont draw ratings, interest or pay per view buys. Like Mighty Mouse in UFC despite his skill level. Its the stars that draw interest so you pay for the stars.

I understand if its new to you because you maybe dont pay attention to legitimate fights, but it actually makes perfect sense and not talking about it is what wouldnt make sense.

Then from the perspective of Jericho getting himself talked about, obviously its going to piss people off to talk about ratings and explain that he's never lost "the demo" and brand himself "the demo god". It will be talked about, even if its by people who are saying he's dumb. They're still talking about him.

Now if a face came out on the show and in kayfabe was talking about the great ratings for the show and how their segment did, that would come across as arrogant. And not only that, it would suggest they arent focused on beating opponents and winning a title which is what we're supposed to believe the good guys are going for.

It could work in a heel turn but it probably wouldnt come across well even as a face even if they were telling the truth about the ratings.

Still too young for WWE's median demo :D 55 for nxt, 56 for Smackdown and 57 years old for Raw

AEW's is lowest but UFC is lower than theirs so it could still be a lot better with young fans.

"AEW's is lowest" sounds a lot cooler than AEW's median age is 48.

You clearly werent watching during the ratings war when you're complaining about taking digs

WWF dig at WCW main eventer Goldberg

WWF invades WCW on WWF television

WWF womens champions Madusa turns up on WCW as her contract has expired and she still has the belt

WCW dig at Jim Ross WWF commentator

WCW spoils taped WWF main event show that hasnt aired yet

Thats what the ratings war was, pretty much anything goes to get a ratings boost over the other show. So no actually none of this is more "small time" than the original ratings war. Even when Triple H called AEW a "pissant company" at the hall of fame with Billy Gunn there, does that compare to having a joke version of the other company's biggest star? Spoiling results? Turning up at the other show? Throwing the other shows title in the trash?

No of course not.

Trust me I remember all those and more, point is TV ratings mattered more then than now and you can understand why there were digs at each other. I mean, Vince was on the brink of bankruptcy at the start of the ratings war. It ultimately led to the bankruptcy of his competition however, that's the stakes that were at play.

VOD is where any media conglomerate needs to be focused.

Today's fan & hell even talents like Jericho trying to spin 800k or so into a "ratings war" seems extremely lame in comparison.

It gives you a true indicator of just how far pro wrestling's main stream popularity has fallen.

I dont know what it is, but I just cant watch it.
Well most of wrestling is playing to the crowd so when theres barely anyone there, it makes sense its not quite the same. Some people have suggested that they should have cancelled all the shows until the crowds were properly back as that would have built interest in the return and they wouldnt have gone through all the feuds and matchups during lockdown. Not sure the TV companies would have been happy with that

I'm aware that you have this entitled opinion that what you think matters to me. It doesn't. It might if at some point you display even a modicum of knowledge on the subjects you are posting about.

I think what really killed it for me, considering wrestling fandom is 99% suspension of disbelief is when they are posing and mugging to a non existent crowd, it just takes me out of the moment.

Meltzer being a sycophantic cnut as usual. Comparing Will Ospreay and the abuse (fully deserved abuse) he got to Hana Kimura.

He really is a cancer to wrestling. Cannot stand the man.

I completely understand, I lost some interest in wrestling in general because of that + Hana Kimura's death a month or so ago. I think its still entertaining but its not the same as when theres a proper crowd
