The Red Card was regrettable but..

...that passion!

I haven't seen it since the days of SAF, where players were like a pack of wolves all fighting for one another. We have been so passive over the years but you can really see a passionate unity return. ETH is absolutely nailing it.

Passion is all well and good, but I just wanted a nice relaxing Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford!

I'm with the first view on this, it's time United are not seen as a soft touch and although it was deservedly a red card in the eyes of the rule book, throttling that little gremlin Will Hughes isn't the worst thing in the world.

'One in, all in' as it should be.

No doubt it was stupid, but a lot of what Keano and Cantona did over the years was equally daft. There is a fire and unity in this squad and its the type of passion that wins you trophies.

We've been a soft touch long enough. A sort of passive bunch that went along for the ride, enjoyed the wages and rested within the cozy confines of there being no expectations of silverware because we're a work in progress.

Well thankfully that scene appears to be gone and over. All for one and one for all is back and I love it.

Dead right.

Shows passion and unity when all the players step in and back each other up like that.

What was the thing the George Graham Arsenal side used to say? “You need 7” meaning when it all kicked off, you needed 7 fellas who would pile, regardless of the circumstances.

I am still recovering from the day Noble carried Herrera off the pitch, so every time our players fight it makes me feel a little bit better.

Shaking with anger thinking about that

Herrera would have endeared himself much more if he’d turned round and whacked him one. Or next time Noble went down, carried him off

The Old Trafford Brawl v Arsenal 1990(?).

George Graham's Arsenal getting stood up to by McClair, Irwin and my personal highlight of Les Sealey running the length of the pitch to get involved.

That incident has stuck in my mind ever since. I was absolutely fuming at how weak it made us look. It epitomised the softness and mental fragility of our teams since Fergie retired.

100% agree with the OP. Great to see players standing up for each other and getting into the opponent’s faces. We finally have some warriors again.

Red cards come hand-in-hand with that but the other benefits to the team spirit and how we are perceived by the opposition far outweigh that downside.

I still remember Ruud getting swarmed by Keown etc and only skinny Ronaldo who was here for 10 minutes came to help him.
Ruud didn’t last must longer, I wonder if it was in between the three transfer requests he made to get out of here. Certainly felt his teammates left him out to dry on that one

Agreed. Casemiro obviously shouldn't have given the ref the chance to send him off by my God, how refreshing was it to see our players sticking up for each other again? And even better to hear the manager emphasize it afterwards.

I'm still traumatised by the time Ander Herrera was carried off the pitch by Mark Noble and none of our players seemed to care. I guarantee you, neither Licha, Case, Antony, Garnacho or Fred would let that happen.

I agree (although Cas' case clearly wasn't a red). We haven't had this passion in our team since the Fergie days. It feels like watching a whole different football club like with players actually giving a shit and being there for each other.

Yet you have posters blaming Antony for the card. Players defended their teammate from a cnut push by Schlupp.

Actually, it should be 'third man in, from whichever team, gets a straight red'. I don't really like rugby as a sport, but they have a sensible view on this; 2 players can have at it but if another gets involved they're gone straight away. Its why you don't see as many multi player brawls in rugby. Other sports like gaelic football and aussie rules could do with this rule also.

They may be younger supporters who have understandably meshed into the modern ethics of the game. Show 'em a few oldies and it should set them straight ;)

And it'll be even better once we won the appeal. Will be sending out Kenwood Juicers if we don't.

Was Zlatan on the pitch when Herrera was carried off that day? I can’t remember. He’s probably the only one in that squad during those times whom would have intervened the situation and reacted in some way against Mark fecking Noble

It’s definitely nice to see teammates giving a shite and backing up one another again

Agree with the OP. We want players to show fire in their bellies. Occasionally it will boil over and bite us instead. But I am willing to accept this for the passion and unity displayed by the team

It was an obvious bait from Palace which was too easy to avoid, and we foolishly took it.

It's crazy that we still fall for these type of things.

I know I might look like an idiot writing this but I immediately thought it could be a blessing in disguise if we managed to see through the game. We look comfortable in the league to finish top 4 or at least as comfortable as can be. Ten Hag was not going to rest Casemiro from the looks of it. We can afford to drop the occasional point here and there and have fresh legs for the cups.

The game against Barcelona will decide the rest of our season I feel. Win that and we really need to rotate and the way the league looks right now, it should be the best place to rotate. Lose that and it's no worries really, just play your best team until the end of the season.

I was at that one, Les Sealey was as mad as a March hare, don't think I ever saw a keeper run so quick!

Didn't us and Arsenal get points deducted for that one?

Yep, very pleasing. Players sprinting from all corners to get in there. And Ten Hag immediately defending that reaction. I know we're all desperate to leap on positives at the moment but that doesn't take away from their importance.

Have you seen how steep the drop off from the pitch is? Antony used a lovely touch/flick to pass the ball and got brutalised. The anger was justified. I would have been angry if that happened and our players didn’t react and took the opportunity for water break.

We both did. Arsenal won the league that season.

The game v Arsenal in 86 or 87 deserves a mention too.

Masterclass from Big Norm on winding Arsenal up and terrifying them. I can even remember Terry Gibson throwing his weight around. Great day watching United.

It's worth a watch on YouTube, yesterday's handbags looks incredibly tame in comparison.

100% Schlupp didn't even try and get the ball either, just ran and clouted him straight off the pitch.

Did he even get carded for that either?

Yeah I would have been at that one as well, knew we both got deductions but couldn't remember which one it was for, Nutty Norman was and is my favourite United player

Don’t think he got anything. The ref really lost control and then to try and make up for it just sent off Casemiro. I think even in the angle he looks at you can see Schlupp grabbing Fred by the throat. Appalling refereeing when you consider he has var to help and replays to look at.

That one. That's the one. I couldn't believe our guys just let that happen. After that it was always pretty hard for me to personally take anyone's hardman credentials seriously. They just let Arsenal players do that to Ruud.
