Oscars on TV at the moment, how shite show this is? Surely it wasn't this bad 10 or so years ago? I am not talking about movies, but mostly the shite they say.

Ratings are down 50% on last year, which already had really low ratings.
Most repubs don’t want to listen to Hollywood stars preaching to them.

its funny how they got criticism one year for being too white and then it completely flipped

its almost as if they only care about what everyone thinks about them

Weird that an institution based on getting people to like its product thinks like this.

The Empty Man

On the trail of a missing girl, an ex-cop comes across a secretive group attempting to summon a terrifying supernatural entity.
Started off well, but for me did not carry on well and the ending was just plain strange.

4/10

Anyone got any good 70s suggestions?

Doesn't have to be classic stuff, quite enjoy comedies from that era as well.

Also, maybe the wrong thread, but oh well.

Lawrence of Arabia shamelessly aped that masterpiece.

Bad Samaritan 2018 is a great little thriller, not sure how it's 6.5 on IMDB. It's not perfect by any stretch and you need to suspend your disbelief but its not meant to be taken too seriously - just a really fun movie.

David Tenant plays a really good baddie, fair play

I also saw Nobody the other night and it's fantastic. It's kinda John Wick-esque but with a bit more meat on the bones.

edit: and RZA is in it!!!

If films annoy you where the plot or character decisions don't make a lot of sense, neither is probably for you though

Love and Monsters (Netflix). I'm not into creepy-monsters movies, and the whole thing seemed rather teenage-y and gimmick-y when I first it appear on Netflix, so I decided against it. Then I read positive reviews on here and in my newspaper, so I figured it might be a fun little thingy. It is and isn't. There is little horror, which makes me happy (I'm really not into horror and creepy stuff), and it's funny and drags you along fairly well; but I felt rather empty afterward. Guess it's too devoid of anything beyond the surface narrative or broader consequences for my taste. I don't know; but ultimately not really my thing.

Burning (Netflix). Same conclusion, but a very different way of arriving there. It's a slow-burning, abstract, psychological... drama? I'm not sure how to describe it best. It's a South Korean film that was highly praised all over, and tells the story of a guy who meets a girl he vaguely knew from his youth, but another guy arrives on the scene who also seems to be connecting to her, and from there things get... complicated. It's a very quiet and understated film, that touches on all kinds of themes (poor vs. rich, the role of women, rural vs. urban, etc.), but never explicitly, and doesn't clearly a stance on anything or explains things - as can be expected from a film based on a Haruki Murakami short story. (Maybe I should have led with that piece of information!) But while I generally really like his books and stories, I couldn't really get into the film. It was too abstract and understated for me. I guess I need a little more direction, or explicitness, or conclusion in my films. I get why other people adored it, but same as for Love and Monsters (as much as they don't belong together in any other way): ultimately not really my thing.

Good list this. Couple of comments before the match: To this day all the Omen movies scare the absolute crap out of me. Disaster movies have been ruined by CGI. Prefer the recent MOTOE.

Bout to watch Eternal sunshine and the spotless mind tomorrow and it's the last movie on my 21 movies list. Fecking finally.

Omen 1 and 2 . yes I agree, I though the 3rd one was dreadful, but you have to watch to complete the story.
I love 70s disaster movies, SFX were dodgy, but all part of the enjoyment for me.
