Who the feck hasn’t seen Con Air :D
3.4 billion people who have to walk four miles every day to bring home a bucket of reasonably clean water.

Also about 1.5 billion born after 2002. (Roughly 5-6 years 'in the past' is the threshold where you'll tend to watch 'mainstream' movies released before you were born) AKA for someone born in 1987 it's 50/50 whether they'll have seen ET)

Also, Con Air rules.

Watched THE DROP again last night

Gandolfini and Tom hardy.

Great little movie
It’s so good. I remember Matthias Schoenaerts being very good in it too. Don’t see him in very many films now though.

Love and Monsters.

Watched it last Saturday and quite enjoyed it. It's a 12 but I found it acceptable to watch with a 10 year old and a 4 year old. I've had to replay the giant frog scene at least once a day since then as my youngest loves it. I will probably detest this movie by the end of May.

7/10.

Admittedly, you’re on a hiding to nothing trying to rate such well-known films but I’d switch the 5 and 9 between Eternal Sunshine (Carey and Winslet superb) and There will be Blood (am-dram festival of over-acting) the 6 and 9 between Bladerunner (genius) and Apocalypse Now (flawed genius).

Which did you enjoy most in terms of entertainment?

Schindler’s list was brilliantly acted IMO. V for Vendetta brought me the most enjoyment I’d say or Good morning Vietnam.

Anyone seen Without Remorse on Prime yet? Read the Clancy novel, which was excellent, but the trailers look like a very different adaptation.

Gandhi (1982)

Kingsley was excellent. Good movie too, though it's a bit too on the positive side for Gandhi based on the reviews I read?

The reviews have not been kind.
That’s not surprising based on the trailers. They’ve managed to take a very good book and destroy it with their “creativity”. The other films from Clancy books have been better mainly by not deviating too much from a book written by one the best.

Oblivion. A post-apocalyptic sci-fi film, but one with colours and sunlight, rather than the usual dark dreariness. In fact, the film looks great, and the action is pretty cool - but the story is a mess. It's nicely tantalizing at first, and there's the seed of a good idea in there once you start figuring out what's really happening. But there are just too many plot holes and inconsistencies, and the entire last half hour is too predictable - causing me to basically stop caring. So, erm, watch the first hour and just read the Wikipedia summary of the rest of the film?

It's actually more of a documentary. In the future existence will be Tom Cruise clones all the way down.

Just finished watching it now. Really underwhelming. Doesn't help that the acting is also meh. And in general I struggle to watch Michael B Jordan's movies, except for 1 or 2 of them.

That’s a real shame. Sounds like an epic clusterfeck given the source material available.

It's probably due to a lack of decent Science Fiction films in the last 10 years but i'd rate Oblivion as a top 10, might be a wee bit predictable near the very end but thats ok, not all films need to have dozens of twists. The music is also top notch along with the visuals.

That's a good one. One of the few action blockbusters(?) I've enjoyed as an adult.

Yeah, it looks and feels great, but the all the plotholes and predictability towards the end really put me off. I can't really imagine having it in my top 10 - but then I don't know what timeframe we're talking about and what else I would put in there. You might be right and this is just as good as it's gotten in sci-fi recently. (For what it's worth, I also saw Upgrade the other week, and I enjoyed it much more.)

I read the book when it came out and I really enjoyed it, so when I saw the trailers for this film I wasn't drawn to watch it. I haven't seen much criticism regarding the deviation from the book's plot, but as a film in it's own right it just looks meh.

It's a good list and the ratings are grand. It's your opinion after all.
I haven't seen all (Prestige, etc) but are most, or all, of them American films?

I think Children Of Men counts as a UK movie. Everything else I'm pretty sure is from the US.

I've always found it hard to consider it a strictly British movie myself. I know it has Clive Owen/Michael Caine and is set in the UK but barely any of the big people involved in its production were British - including the director, cinematographer, editor, most of the producers, the distribution company and all five of the writers (according to Wikipedia at least).

At best I think it's a hybridised American/UK production. It's the same for that recent film Minari, which has links to South Korea but feels more American.

Yeah, it's always weird. I think often it's matter of financing, which means little in terms of the country of origin of a film. Also, in that list, The Prestige feels quite British in various ways, but I don't know if there is anything British about it except for some of the setting and actors; and while Apocalypse Now counts as coming from the US, I think filming happened pretty much exclusive in the Philippines - which nonetheless would never be considered as its country of origin.
