The right back market

The strong scouse Dutch connection is a worry, Slot will encourage Van Dijk, Gakpo and Gravenberch to get in ear on next international break
Yea I guess so too. But actually he is a lot worse as a RB than he is at RWB, so we might have a small chance if we're interested

I liked Michael Kayode. Absolute beast and pace to burn. 20 year old. How Brentford got him on loan is a conundrum. Already adapting to the league.

Frimpong is not a full-back. Would be really surprised if Liverpool goes for him.

Mazraoui played 10 times at right back and was mostly very good, in fact he's been very good almost everywhere he's been used. One of the rare example in recent years of an excellent transfer.

I don't see this as a priority position since adding at least 1 centre back into the squad (preferably two) would allow us to use him consistently here.

Personally I'd prefer to see Amad used as the right 10 although we do need to sign someone capable of playing here for competition and squad depth. Maybe now that Mount is back playing he could be used as this option.

I think you sign Frimpong for what he can give you going forward. An additional threat on top of what your centre forward and attacking midfielders provide. With Amad at wing-back, we already have that additional threat. He's a better footballer than Frimpong. A greater attacking and creative outlet. More naturally talented.

A specialist RWB equally adept at attacking and defending who's played for a championship winning Leverkusen side.

Who on earth would want that.

Am I remembering him correctly as being really, really quick because we could use a big injection of pace into the side?

One of the quickest in Europe, up there with your Davies and St Juste in terms of pace in that league

This guy has 21 goals and 19 assists over the last 3 seasons mind...

Mazraoui has been very good at RB and RCB this season, but he's been mostly poor at RWB. He has had a few good games there recently so I'm not completely writing him off (maybe he just needed some time to get used to the positioning and increased attacking workload?), but overall I'd be much more confident going into next season with him playing as RCB.

I have Yoro as my RCB going forward. I know he's played LCB recently but I think (could be wrong) that it's largely because of injuries to Martinez/Shaw and Heaven.

I'm fine with Mazraoui as a RCB option if Yoro can't play but a decision does need to be made on where Yoro is going to feature permanently, do you have him elsewhere?

Overall I think we have more strength/options in this position than most others. We simply don't have a left 10/striker etc capable of playing in those positions to the level Maz has played at RB or RCB so with limited funds these positions need to be addressed first.

There's not much in it, but Yoro has probably been better on the left than he has on the right so far. Seems more likely to stride forward into midfield or the attack on that side too, which I don't remember him doing much from the right where he normally stays a bit deeper. In saying that, he continued getting forward very well in the last 20 minutes against Athletic after he got moved to the right, so it's not like he can't do it.

So for now (this season and probably next season) I see Mazraoui RCB, Yoro LCB and either De Ligt or Maguire as CCB in our strongest combination. Obviously that might change depending on form and fitness, but that'd be how I'd start it.

I do think RWB isn't as big a priority as it was a few months ago. Unless the plan was to have Amad play there regularly, I had it as just as important as #10 (with striker obviously being the most important). But Dalot was starting to improve his performances there quite a bit in the couple of months before the injury, and with Mazraoui also having a few good games there lately, it's dropped down the priority list a bit. I'd still definitely like to improve it (unless the idea is for Amad to play there, in which case we'd need a second #10 instead), but I could understand focusing on other areas and leaving RWB for another season.

Frimpong release clause is a joke. He would fit perfectly in our system.
I know we are trying to be tight with wages but if his release clause is really only 35 mil then we should be all over him. Just as we did with Yoro.

Given Ruben’s comments oh physicality, are we ignoring this due to his size? That or, he simply doesn’t want to come here

Any worldclass player will be worry joining us now. Every United news are bad news: owners being tight on money, buying cheap players, our abysmal league positions. It may change if we can convincingly win the Europa Lague and put us back on the europe map, and we start buying good players.

Or alternatively, offer him a feck off wage that double everyone else offer.

Yeah we need Europa win to build attractiveness for players to this Ruben project which I understand, would say Frimpong is an example of that along with many others thinking about move.

Liverpool "in advanced talks" with Frimpong. feckers will again buy excellent player for bargain price.

And our fandom thinks he's not good enough... He would have been perfect for us. I expect him to be solid for them but he's a much better RWB than RB..

I always felt he was good enough, scouse feckers but knew it was happening with their Dutch contingent

I wanted us to sign a RB. Bradley isn't good enough to start every week.

Feels like Leverkusen will be losing a few players with Alonso gone.

I remember when City started building their team in the past, they needed to buy these "star" players, paid them outrageous money, just to elevate their team to be more attractive to other good players.

We don't have the money. So it's hard to follow that City's model.

Regarding Frimpong, as much as he would be excellent I do think we need a bit more physicality in our team.

yeah definitely.

It's a shame, but this is the type of signing you lose out on when you are crap. He would be foolish to choose us over Pool.
Yeah I wouldn’t argue with that, Dalot, Dorgu and this Leon guy look to have some level of physicality out wide. However like you say we desperately need to add some in the middle or will keep getting bullied.

that's why we were linked to Quenda who's the exact same height as Frimpong?

Something tells me Amorim doesn't play with wingbacks like Inter Milan do.

He wants to play attacking inverted wingbacks or defensive wingbacks - not wingbacks that provide width & can do a bit of both.

It doesn't make sense to try Amad & Quenda as RWB, buy players like Dorgu, play him inverted & then also bypass probably one of the best wingbacks in the world.

Nearly every offield wingback he has used on the right has been left footed, Antony, Amad, Quenda, Dorgu.

Frimpong is right footed.

I think Frimpong is slightly a different mould to the wingback Amorim wants & alot of people haven't noticed.
