I think that's only an option if we bring in a new attacking left back. Playing Shaw and Mazraoui on either side doesn't provide anywhere near enough going forward. Dalot's final ball may be fairly poor when he gets into attacking areas, but he gets in those areas and provides an option a hell of a lot more than they do.

The fact is dalots been here a long time like they were, 8years hes never been more than good for any period of time...hes arguably no better than bissaka was and everone wantes rid of him. Dalot is average going forward, average defensively 1 v 1, poor positionally and reading the game and often makes poor passes in our own thirdcwhich cause trouble.
I think it IS a priority, the ckub doesnt....but regardless it doesnt even gave to be a priority...mourinho probably wants him...we could probably sell him for £40m so replacing him wouldnt significanty affect our budget or getting priorities...only time takes to do several deals affects selling him

Agreed, I’d love us to really go after some top FB options on both sides. So many fans seem content with us making do with just having decent options there, or having other players filling in from elsewhere to make up depth. But really top FBs can have such a huge impact on the dynamics of play on their flank.

Good point, forgot dumfries signing. Personally dont rate him at £40m, but in the current market he should be somewhere around that fee. I agree its not a priority, it doesnt even seem a consideration so yes its irrelevant as not happening.
But my feeling is whoever we sign this window, its a mistake not being a priority at rb. I wouldnt class him as a liability he has been "ok" under carrick....but £40m on a cm could be 4/5th choice even mid season adds far less to me than a lower net spend on rb selling dalot and strengthening with a better attacking full back...thats not a dig at ederson, think hes decent...more about improving the first eleven and bar cm, dalot is the weak link in it for me
That’s where we disagree. Shaw at LB just doesn’t get down the line and cross, at all. Plus he’s not reliable in terms of fitness. Dorgu will be utility cover and mostly play in forward positions I suspect.
Which leaves Dalot and Maz to cover left back when shaw inevitably breaks down.
Amass is out of contract next summer and needs more loan time after his own injuries

Shaw-Martinez-De Ligt-Mazraoui is the most injury prone backline I've ever seen and I could see all of them leaving before Dalot. We will improve on him but I don't see it happening this summer.

How good our RB vs LB options are as first choice players is a secondary concern to how much you can rely on getting minutes out of them as a group across a season in which we're playing a lot more games.
All it takes is Luke Shaw to be unavailable (a common event across his career, and not less likely as he moves into his 30s) and we're down to Dorgu, or shifting a right-back to LB where they're noticeably worse.
Whereas if the extremely robust Dalot got injured, we wouldn't have a particularly noticeable drop-off to Mazraoui, and if he got injured then we would still have Dorgu, who is more comfortable playing on the opposite flank than either of the RBs.

Thats fair enough and obviously dorgu plans are further forward and shaw injury issues are valid....but i think both are better lb than dalot at rb and theres further cover too. Think dalot offers energy going forward but the link up and creativity is woefully over rated personally...think hes improved as a player last couple of years....but not near enough to be a united starter
But, when you don’t have infinite budget you have to prioritize and for me RB gets pushed back a year. There’s enough there to work with for a season

My argument opinion wise is simply that both should be prorities just below 2cm
As i said think we could sell and replace dalot for a limited net spend that doesnt affect budget barely...just time spent doing so in a busy window maybe not there.
ALso dont even think its something pushed back a year as the club seems to rate him.
The main points here for keeping him seems to be his availability or priorities this summer...so it seems the majority of people not wanting a rb dont even seem to rate him highly
22m fee agreed. I think we should match this, personally. He has proven for Colombia that he can have standout performances at RB as well as RWB.

I'd argue we currently have stronger options at ST than we do at RB. A LB should be the highest priority signing though, yes.
