Great work Benito. Perfectly encapsulates why United's era is coming to an end soon.
I suspect you’ll come out a lot better on the U23 front but yeah the youth aspect of your side isn’t competing with some others at the moment.

What this really showed me though is that GK, AM and ST really are very difficult roles to find top young players in. Whereas left footed RW are a gold mine.

Alright, folks, strap in! Some of you might have noticed I've been a bit... off-grid. "Holiday," they called it. You know the kind—no sandy beaches, just a whole lot of travel and some... one-on-one interviews with a certain Div 1 manager who needed a change of scenery to fully open up. The details are classified, but let's just say the return trip was a success, and I've got a lot of notes.

With the league back in full swing for game week 10, it's time to stop the dallying and get to the business of what's been happening on the pitch. You see, while some pundits were enjoying their rest, I was working. And what I've seen has been fascinating.

Now, before the season kicked off, I put my neck on the line with some early guesses for automatic promotion: Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. One of those picks is looking mighty fine, while the other has been on a tear, but more on that in a moment.

So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty and review the latest results from Div 2!
Tottenham 0 Liverpool 0: A draw for two teams relegated from Div 1. The Spurs will be thinking two points dropped and Liverpool a point gained.

Norwich 4 Crystal Palace 0: A statement win for Norwich. They are a team in form and this result just reinforces that.
Sheffield United 3 Leeds 2: A five-goal thriller that showed the grit of Sheffield United in a well-fought win.

Torquay 3 Brighton 0: Torquay, the newly promoted side, are showing no signs of slowing down. A comprehensive win that cements them as a real playoff contender.

Chelsea 0 Kidderminster 4: A solid win for Kidderminster. Anyone who's been following the season knows Chelsea have been a shambles, and this result just goes to show how effective Kidderminster can be.

Blackburn 4 Reading 1: A well-needed win for Blackburn, who have been inconsistent.
Wolverhampton 5 Ipswich 1: The good times continue for Wolves! They've been on a fantastic run, and this dominant 5-1 performance against Ipswich just goes to show their recent momentum is no fluke. This is the kind of explosive form that gets a team into the top six and keeps them there.

Brentford 2 Luton 0: A solid win for Brentford.

Bradford 1 Bury 4: A truly impressive win for Bury on the road, showcasing why they are in the automatic promotion places.

Hull 2 Manchester City 3: A tight affair for the league leaders, but they got the job done and showed their clinical edge.

The New League Standings: The Picture Gets Clearer

While the table didn't exactly get a full shake-up, this week's results have certainly made the promotion picture clearer. Here's how it stands:

Automatic Promotion Spots:
1st: Manchester City on 30 points. Still top. No surprises there.
2nd: Bury on 27 points. Holding strong. Looking like a real contender.

Playoff Spots:
3rd: Torquay. They're holding onto their spot.
4th: Norwich. Solidly in the mix.
5th: Wolverhampton Wanderers. After a stellar performance, they've solidified their position in the top six.
6th: Kidderminster Harriers. A big win got them here.

This Div 2 campaign is shaping up to be a real barn burner! Every point is going to count, and the battle for promotion and avoiding the drop is well and truly on! I'll be back with my reports soon. Until then, keep an eye on those tables!

Benito’s STARRS
U18 GW Youth Talent Review

With the main summer review season over we begin the second instalment of a possible 3 part series where I’ll take a little look at the best U23, U21 and U18 talent in the GW and award the coveted Benito STARRs accordingly to decide who has the biggest STARR studded squad overall. Step aside Michelin.

Having recently looked into the U21s we’ll now be looking at the freshest of faces, the U18s. We’ll be looking at top players in the U18s for each category with the view to be able to name 3 levels of youth sides. STARRs are awarded based on the system below and please note equal rating will still be awarded stars I just may not include them in the 3 XIs I pick.

Positional decisions are made based on where the player has played most this season (I have checked). Some players play so many roles that a best fit decision has been made.

How Benito’s STARR system works:
1st Place = ⭐⭐⭐
2nd Place = ⭐⭐
3rd Place = ⭐

80 = ⭐️ +1
81 = ⭐⭐️ +2
82 = ⭐⭐⭐️ +3
83 = ⭐⭐⭐⭐️ +4
84 = ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ +5
85 = ⭐️ x6
86 = ⭐️ x7
87 = ⭐️ x8
88 = ⭐️ x9
89 = ⭐️ x10
90 = ⭐️ x11
94 = ⭐️ x15

We will look at at least the best:
3 GKs
3 RBs
3 LBs
6 CBs
6 CM/DMs
3 AMs
3 RW/RMs
3 LW/LMs
3 STs

All players are at managed sides. So while some better rated players may be at external they won’t be considered.

Now Endrick has only just turned 19 (less than a month ago) and were he included when I originally expected to do this (stupid delayed reviews) Cardiff would have an additional +11 stars (no other 19 year old is as young and highly rated so wouldn’t impact scoring at other sides) which would put us on 22 (Kostoulas would lose 1 ⭐️ by dropping a ST place).

So I personally consider myself one of the best collectors of U18 talent (I just blame SM reviews for the delay).

I also think if Mora is 86, then Bouaddi with his Kopa nomination should be at least 85).

Vanity aside… it’s crazy how good Yamal is relative to U18s absolutely bonkers!

I don’t know about the rest of you but for me the U23s is the biggest indicator of future success… who do we think will be the best?

Great work. :lol: at Villa making it to fourth with one prospect (obviously the best in the game). Feeling a bit down on my U18 prospects. Donmezer (16, not 18 btw) has been conceding loads in second division of Turkish league. Still early in his career but I guess it shows how thin on the ground U18 goalkeepers are at managed clubs.

The intention was always 80+ to be rewarded with bonus stars as I think personally that’s the sign of a well above average 18 year old, same with U21s hitting 90+. The issue is of course Yamal is gamebreakingly brilliant but I stand by his inclusion and STARR rating especially when you look at the 3 clubs above I reckon all 3 would trade all of their STARR winners for Yamal easily.

Leoni and Bernal are your best prospects U18 for my money, Leoni’s Liverpool move will stall his development but they’ve not bought him to make a profit they’ve bought him to play him eventually. Bernal can always get minutes and quick rises at Barcelona as a result (I’m expecting Jofre Torrents to be the highest rated LB U18 not called Lewis-Skelly shortly for this same reason).

U18 GKs are a huge risk you don’t tend to see decent prospects emerging until at least 20/21 with the clear top ones emerging around 22/23 having established themselves as starters.

It’s why if you find a 20 YO GK who is starting in a top 8 league (to included Belgium, Portugal etc) I’d be holding onto them for a couple of years to see how far they go.

The U23s though for me is the main predictor of successful squad building as by this age most of the top prospects have had their breakout.

Most of my talents have matured into first teamers or soon to be first teamers which is the whole point. You forgot Mokio, though minimum.

You think Torrents will be playing that much? I think it'll be hard with Balde first choice. With how slow the reviews have been, he'll probably be 19 by the time he gets an increase anyway.

Good point on the young goalkeepers.

Wait for the U23s

Didn’t forget Mokio he’s just not high enough rated for the STARR rating system.

Yeah he got about 20-30 mins last game.

He’ll rise to 80-3 before anyone else I reckon. Flick is a fan.

Will probably only do updates at end of month if I can be bothered from now on, but player minute updates:

c3Z7Pp1.jpeg

The good:
+ Davinchi playing 90 minutes for Getafe (caveat that I know it'll decrease/go to 0 once their registration issues are sorted)
+ Nathan de Cat a regular starter for Anderlecht

The mixed:
+/- Sindre Walle Egeli doing okay but on downside linked with move to Ipswich Town
+/- Andre Garcia with reduced game time compared to last season but seems to be converted from LB to attacker and scored this in his 9 min sub appearance last night

The bad:
- Over a month after deciding he needed to be sent out on loan, Harry Amass still hasn't got a club secured (thanks Jonny)
- Sancho
- Lorran Lucas, probably need to get rid before he becomes the next Matheus Nascimento in keeping too long for feck all minutes
- Rafael Quintas not even getting a look in at Benfica, I know he's still very young but Benfica manager doesn't seem willing to take risks
- Jeremie Frimpong now injured until after international break
