Sunderland draft

Next up: Aston Villa (PM’d SM)

Rules:

  2. Time between picks is now 16 hours instead of the previous 12. I would prefer if you message me picks in advance to make things go faster. Please include your club name if messaging on Redcafe.
  3. Once the draft is over and the temp manager has resigned, bid face value for the player.

Unfortunately you missed the 16 hour deadline.

14:49 PM + 16 hours = 06:49 AM deadline
A 16hr deadline doesn't make sense given the different time zones people are in, it should be min 24hrs which gives people a fair chance. For instance, the timings you've mentioned make it a 8:30 PM start at my end meaning I'll miss unless I'm on SM late night or early morning on a non match day.

I should get the pick and the deadline changed to 24hrs.

@BenitoSTARR

Replying here so there's no parallel chats on SM and Caf. It's not about getting contacted or not, it's about time zones. It's a game and no one should be made to miss picks because they're in a different time zone to UK and thus not on to see msgs at 8:30pm with a 16hr timer

It used to be 12hours. The last one Damien did it was then changed to 16hours and the above paragraph explicitly says to message picks in advance which several people have done to avoid missing the deadline.

I’m just trying to be consistent with what @Damien put in place and applying the same rules equally.

I will speak to Southend too as GS has also been asked to co-run in Damien’s absence. Unless of course Damien himself allows it.

I understand the frustration of missing out but there is a mechanism in place to avoid that being an issue so it is something within your control. You were able to send a list of players in order of preference which others have done and I have used their preferences when it came to their turn this draft.

I am sympathetic to the time difference being an issue so let me speak to GS and Damien. I’ll temporarily suspend the draft.

I barely get picks in drafts and thus barely involved so assumed / misremembered that it was 24hrs earlier, 12 is crazy.

The rules should be applied in the right spirit, it's a game. The only impacted party is @JB7 and given its not as if he made the pick and I'm claiming the same player coming in late, it doesn't matter.

Anyway, I've made my point. I should get the player and the deadline should be increased to 24hrs as well. There's no need to move things quicker either. I didn't even understand why we had to start the draft so soon instead of giving some lower league managers or anyone really the chance to join. I had dropped a msg in my other league if someone wanted to take over, @KM asked me to share the squad. Was at work so just shared the GW ID with him and next thing I know, the draft has started here.

See the above. I completely understand your view hence seeking GS’s view.

From an admin point of view it’s very challenging trying to get everyone and everything in place when you’re not actually the GW owner and don’t have a spare gold account to manage everything.

I’m incredibly conscious of not wanting to take up Damien’s time and so every decision made thus far has been with his agreement but I want to give him the time and space he has requested too.

The other thing we’re fighting against is the unpredictably of the AI in the game meaning leaving clubs open becomes an issue far sooner than it did before.

Essentially I never asked to do this, I never volunteered but Damien said he wanted me and GS to caretake.

I have a full time job, 2 kids (1 a baby) and wife to try and squeeze this draft into. So I’m doing my best to follow what has been applied before.

Mate, I'm not blaming you in any way, you're following what's been set before. I'm saying that's not practical and should change because it misses the time zone issue which wouldn't have happened earlier as most managers are in Europe

@Varun I’ve spoken to both Damien and GS and we’re all in agreement that you’ve missed the deadline to pick and so will miss out on the player.

A system is in place to deal with any timing issues (PM in advance) and has been for several drafts.

I am happy to do a 2/3 majority vote for future drafts to see if people want it changed to 24 hours per person.

I hugely appreciate Benito and GS both agreeing to take control of things in my absence. I hope to be back some point in next couple of months but not going to put a fixed date.

The 12 hour time limit was put in place for drafts when we had closer to 50 managers. As the number has decreased closer to 20 we've changed it to 16 but it has always been the case that people can pm picks in order of priority in advance as the screenshots below demonstrate

Screenshot-2026-01-10-at-12-32-46.png

Screenshot-2026-01-10-at-12-33-02.png

If people want to change it for future drafts so either the time limit is extended, removed entirely or people can still choose picks after they've been passed in the draft, we're open to any suggestions and votes.

Benito’s STARRS
U21 GW Youth Talent Review

With the main summer review season over we begin the first of a possible 3 part series where I’ll take a little look at the best U23, U21 and U18 talent in the GW and award the coveted Benito STARRs accordingly to decide who has the biggest STARR studded squad overall. Step aside Michelin.

As with anything the best trilogies start at the middle. We’ll be looking at top players in the U21s for each category with the view to be able to name 3 levels of youth sides. STARRs are awarded based on the system below and please note equal rating will still be awarded stars I just may not include them in the 3 XIs I pick.

Positional decisions are made based on where the player has played most this season (I have checked). Some players, like Hinshelwood, play so many roles that a best fit decision has been made.

How Benito’s STARR system works:
1st Place = ⭐⭐⭐
2nd Place = ⭐⭐
3rd Place = ⭐

90 = ⭐️ +1
91 = ⭐⭐️ +2
92 = ⭐⭐⭐️ +3
93 = ⭐⭐⭐⭐️ +4
94 = ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ +5

We will look at at least the best:
3 GKs
3 RBs
3 LBs
6 CBs
6 CM/DMs
3 AMs
3 RW/RMs

U21 GW Youth Talent Review -2nd Edition

With the early winter review season over we begin the first of a 2 part series where I’ll take a little look at the best U21 and U18 talent in the GW and award the coveted Benito STARRs accordingly to decide who has the biggest STARR studded squad overall. Step aside Michelin.

Some players play so many roles that a best fit decision has been made.

U18 GW Youth Talent Review

With the main summer review season over we begin the second instalment of a possible 3 part series where I’ll take a little look at the best U23, U21 and U18 talent in the GW and award the coveted Benito STARRs accordingly to decide who has the biggest STARR studded squad overall. Step aside Michelin.

Having recently looked into the U21s we’ll now be looking at the freshest of faces, the U18s. We’ll be looking at top players in the U18s for each category with the view to be able to name 3 levels of youth sides. STARRs are awarded based on the system below and please note equal rating will still be awarded stars I just may not include them in the 3 XIs I pick.

Positional decisions are made based on where the player has played most this season (I have checked). Some players play so many roles that a best fit decision has been made.

U25 GW Talent Review - 1st Edition

With the early winter review season over we begin the first ever review of the best U25 talent in the league. Thanks for the analysis Benito. Finally one table where I lead. Even with the loss of Frimpong, the others have a couple more years in them.

That is absolutely wild. Club has clearly already been picked unless his family is rich and managed to pay the release clause themselves.
No worries.

I wanted to do an U23 one but the search function was broken for so long I can’t be bothered at the moment.

It shows why you’re so hard to knock off the perch but also that clubs are steadily coming for you. That midfield is wonderful though!

Here's some responses from Dylan (dev/community manager?) in the Invincibles server to stuff asked since facilities were implemented.

Me: Interesting addition to the game. Is it possible to implement the ability to see what level facilities other clubs have in case some game worlds decide to try and self implement restrictions on facility levels so the rich clubs aren't way stronger?

Dylan: Also, hopefully rich clubs shouldn't be able to peel away; the prices vary depending on your wealth so everyone should have the same "difficulty" levelling up. I'll pass the idea on anyway though as it does sound like a nice-to-have

Me: Ah interesting. Do the facilities give the same perks for everyone at each level even though the prices vary? Thanks for passing the feedback on

Dylan: Off the top of my head, I believe so. The price changes are a balancing thing :)

Me: Thank you. Really appreciate your involvement here, really helps people feel like they're being listened to. For the medical centre side of things it says "Each day, 10% chance an injured player’s recovery time is reduced" – do you have the figures on what the player's recovery time is reduced by? Is it a fixed number/percentage of the existing injury, or is it random like it could be 2 days, 3 days or whatever is the % chance kicks in?

Dylan: I don't have access to the underlying figures at the moment, sorry! If you guys have any more questions like this though, let me know and I'll compile them together. Once I've got a few like that, I'll sit down with the team to get the stats you're after and then work them into the guide article mentioned above ^^

Stadium Capacity to FFP New
Been confirmed that all facility upgrades take the same amount of time no matter the level. Not been as much discussion on the SM thread as we'd have probably liked, but if we are going ahead with them, here is the minimum stadium capacity for each FFP slot in Division 1 (for Division 2 just add +2 to numbers seen) up to 90k. If anyone decides to go over 90k, it'll affect everyone else's FFP, but their FFP will be 42 and won't go any lower.

Roughly every 4511 - 4512 seats = 1 FFP space, so if we do decide to go ahead with stadium upgrades, every upgrade will reduce your FFP by 1 to make things simple.

Can we state that only after the increase happens then you have X number of weeks to comply with ffp and not before?
Yeah. I think it'd be appreciated by everyone if people said they were upgrading in advance, but I'll check the stadium capacities on the 1st of each month as I'm sure some will upgrade and keep it to themselves. From the moment that upgrade is noticed people will then have say 4 weeks to comply depending on what bugs there may be in transfer bids

Very cool. Threadmark it.
