Television The Sopranos

It's a brilliant scene.

I just re-watched the show from start to finish recently. Well worth it if you haven't seen it in a few years.
When I first watched The Sopranos it took me a while to understand how great the comedic writing is in the show. It also gets progressively better throughout the seasons.

All the little malapropisms and malaphors they sprinkle in are so good. “Keep your eye on the tiger man”.

I also noticed this more on a rewatch.

The truly great dramas like this manage to mix in humor with everything else, hopefully along with some surrealism.

I recently rewatched the scene where they find out that Vito is gay and Finn (the kid who breaks the news) is terrified about what they are going to do to him. One of the lines is disturbing, funny and clever at the same time, but it's said so quickly and casually that you don't necessarily pick it up the first time:

Finn: "What are you gonna do"
Chris: "It'll be OK. We'll get him to pay for some therapy..."

Ha ha my favorite episode was Paulie and Chrissy in the woods chasing the crazy Russian ex commando.

The dialogue had me in stitches.

After getting off the phone with Tony Paulie goes:
"You're not gonna believe this. He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. The guy was an interior decorator"

Then Chrissy replies "His house looked like shit"

Another was them chasing Mikey in the woods.

"Feckin' poison ivy all over!"
"I can feel it itching me already!"

Also a fantastic kill scene shooting that prick, Mikey, in the creek.

Arguably the funniest lines in the show.

And then there is this goof Little Carmine that constantly says the most inane shit.

“You’re at the precipice of an enormous crossroads”.
“Your brother Billy, whatever happened there”.

This is a classic scene.

This is one of my favourites. Tony fuming at the dog only just outdone by Paulie.

I’ve just started my millionth rewatch and what I find mad about the Soprano’s is that the writers and actors nailed their characters (by and large) in the fecking pilot.

And you can tell the pilot was filmed a solid while prior to the rest of series one.

“He jumped out of the tree and came at me with a chainsaw Tone. I gotta right to defend myself”

I dont know why but I still can't get over how funny these 7 seconds were from Vito

It was just a joke that got out of hand

You know, Quasimodo predicted all this. When Vito is standing behind Chris in line at the bakery, that was foreshadowing. Vito was buying cupcakes.

Vito's whole storyline was so funny. He tried to do one full day of honest work, and decides he hates it so much that he would rather go back to New Jersey and possibly get killed.

Doing a rewatch yet again. Every episode is like a mini movie on its own which makes it different than any other show ever made. That’s what Chase was looking for and he pulled it off brilliantly.

Agreed. That's what makes the Sopranos different than most shows imo.

 Artie was such a great character.

The music at the Crazy Horse was always dogshit though.

I always thought he was the hardest to watch. Maybe still a well-written character, but super cringe. The way he always lusted after the staff at the restaurant, how he was dominated by that French scam artist, how he always wanted to be part of the mob thing, but not really. Definitely my least favorite on the show.

I like the theory that all his special dishes and menus was just him offloading leftovers on to his non-paying mob clientele:

Yeah, I never really understood if he was supposed to be a really good chef, or kind of a mediocre one. I think it might change a bit throughout the show. At the start I think he's supposed to be good, but then he sort of loses his mojo over the years.

Incredible scene. Love it when the writers just make it abundantly clear that all these people, including the likes of Carmela and Melfi, are awful.
