He effectively bumbled his testimony to the Senate regarding his conduct and findings from Clinton investigation especially in regards to Huma Abedin.
Firing him for that would be completely justified but the fact that Trump is firing someone who is effectively investigating into his Russia ties is basically Watergate come again.
