The Trump Presidency : Part 2

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/28/...ent-indicts-ex-fbi-director-james-comey-again

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted Tuesday over a photo of seashells officials said threatened President Donald Trump, marking the administration’s second attempt to prosecute one of his largest political opponents, three sources first told CNN.

Trump has long pressed for his political adversaries to face charges, including the former FBI director he sees as a key leader in the perceived effort to “weaponize” justice system against him.

Last May, Comey posted a photo on social media of shells on a beach writing out the numbers “86 47,” which critics said referred to taking out or killing Trump.

It's a cult.

Cults are built around one person.
Though perhaps one could now argue it is more akin to a religion. I mean hell - the amount of times he s been depicted as Jesus, God, Angel or other manifestation of the divine by said people - not to mention people putting him ahead of priests, pastors, imams, rabbis and even the flipping Pope - goes well beyond cult status.

If this was Tudor England he d probably have started a church in his name by now, and razed any house of worship that goes against him.

King Charles speech for Congress focused on rejecting isolationism, embracing NATO, backing Ukraine and tackling climate change.

Might be a little bit too 'woke' for Donald.

There have been many debates on why Trump won and what Democrats could have done better. But one problem is that voters had a fantasy perception of Trump and then are dumbfounded at his actions.

Complaints about defunding education, broken promises, feuding with the pope, ICE behavior, new wars etc.

Trump admits it was him watching from backstage as the pictures showed. He said he wanted to be of help if possible.

Is anyone seriously going to tell me the President of the USA would be allowed to do that if there was a threat?

Not running an obviously mentally impaired candidate is surely the main takeaway?

Tbf if you asked the average Democrat voter during the Biden years they would be as dumbfounded by the genocide in Gaza, increased ICE spending, having an senile old guy in charge, etc.

Imo these type of stories just show the average person isn't paying much attention to politics.

Also called out checks and balances on executive power with the Dems clearly being bigger fans of that statement.

Good speech. All the clapping is just annoying AF. Though im pretty sure they clapped even more for Netanyahu

I've just started reading that We Were Never Woke book by Musa al-Ghabri. It's promising to be an absolutely fascinating review of middle class white-collar American society, and how it has shaped American politics and elections. Assuming it's core ideas are correct, it has lots of answers about why someone like Trump got a lot of votes and the Democrats can't get much more than a shrug anymore.

This is probably a good online starting point, if you're interested: https://musaalgharbi.substack.com/p/you-ask-i-answer-we-have-never-been.

Swing voters are upset at Biden and Trump because neither of them caused deflation. So good.

Thank you for this. It looks like a very interesting thesis, and one which could apply outside the US too.

Probably, yes. It's just that the author is squarely focused on the US and there are of course peculiarities about US political and social dynamics that don't necessarily translate well to other places. But on first glance, the general thesis seems to apply pretty well to the Liberal Party here in Canada as well, for example.

Hmmmmm,

So many lies told by Trump in his interview with CBS and this just adds more uncertainty to the chain of events reported to the public.

The Supreme Court has effectively overturned the Voting Rights Act.

Justice Alito declared that race should not play any part in government decision making, in a ruling that allows race to play a central part in government decision making.

I mean, their central mantra is to make america great AGAIN, and we all know when they think America was great, so the decision tracks.

Absolutely disastrous decision. Basically guaranteeing Republican states/districts will be gerrymandered to hell and back (even more so), and now with a mandate of sorts. Democracy just died a lot more. It is kind of ironic we had a King lecture our government on democracy yesterday and all we've been doing is speed running in the opposite direction.

The United States is a lost cause, 2016 may or may not have set it on an irreversible path, but 2024 certainly cemented it.

So Republicans are gonna win mid-terms?
No, most of the states that are salivating to remove the (previously) mandated minority districts have already had, or are about to have, their primaries. 2028 is going to be a free for all though

I think this makes the Democratic 2028 Nominee have to make a national gerrymander ban an actual campaign issue. It elevates the priority in a legislative fix. Electoral College is already a weight for Democratic chances in Senate. But, free for all gerrymandering could be equal in the House. And they have to take into account the Supreme Court makeup. Even thought Senate control in midterms is still a longshot due to the available seats they can possibly flip. Strategically stopping Trump from being able to replace Thomas or Alito with a younger MAGA nutjob is important. But, that more a strategy thing not something actual voters vote on even though they should.

They can point to earlier efforts to get this passed but obviously GOP have been against for over a decade. AOC made the point today I think I saw Dems have to use the same set of rules the GOP are. California and Virginia are the examples of this you have to match the energy the GOP are until you can ban it nationally.

This family is just endlessly making money while Trump is president.

The worst thing about all these folks getting even more obscenely rich is that we re basically stuck with corporate and dark money interests ruling this land for decades or generations to come, especially those in with the Trump family. The law has become impotent and meaningless for all intents and purposes. Save for an old school revolution, how is the common man ever going to ensure these folks are held to account?

I think she believes it. These people are fully brainwashed.
I struggle with this..... on one hand it's cult like but on another, you gotta be able to see what's happening outside the bubble? surely??

These people are closer to the antichrist if anything...

The orange imbecile just put 25% tariffs on car exports from the EU.
Allegedly because the EU didn't honor the deal from last year.
Trump conveniently forgets that it has been the US who didn't ratify the trade deal because SCOTUS ruled his tariffs weren't legal.

You really can't make this shit up what this idiot is doing. The damage to the trans Atlantic relationship will be permanent as the US congress and senate don't do anything to stop the madman.

Don't worry, they ll find a way to turn this into another tariff refund or other bullshit move to put even more money into the pockets of his billionaire buddies. Everything is self serving and we probably need to pretend any of it is ever designed for anything else (other than also ensuring they are able to do these things long after Trump is gone of course).

Its wild how being president of the USA now involves spending a significant amount of time impersonating some sort of shit stand up comedian.
