The Trump Presidency : Part 2

This is my quarterly post on this forum to profusely apologize to the world that the United States of America has elected a pure shitbag of a human being as president. In any room I walk into anywhere in the US, outside of certain neighborhoods in San Francisco and other Dem bastions I can figure that about one third of the adults in that room voted for this shitbag, and even he has done nothing since his election to prove to me that I was in voting for Kamala Harris.

I recently saw a reel asking random 20 yr olds how Trump had done in the Iran war. Majority said he had done an excellent job to take out Iran's evil leadership and unlike other presidents, had won and ended the war within months. One of them said nobody does deals like Trump said. And that is showing very well in the presidency.

Donald's genius at making people believe as true that which is demonstrably false is his superpower.

He isn't. We just live in a world where we are told what reality is and far too many people don't think about it and just go with it.
Exactly this unfortunately.... easier to accept someone elses reality than to form your own based on what you see and experience it seems

I actually think it's worse than that. I watched a focus group by Frank Luntz, who opposes Trump but is no commie, a few days after the 2016. The focus group was all Trump supporters and he pressed them hard on why they supported him. One white woman in her 50s and clearly lacking in educational attainment, and I'll never forget this, was told by Luntz that Trump lies all the time so how is that you can support such a man? The answer was shocking but beautiful in its candor:

"I know he lies but he tells me the lies I want to hear."

That blew my mind, but as I press Trump supporters from time to time (I work in a political environment) very few of them believe what they genuinely know to be lies, but every one of them in some formulation have told me that even though he lies all the time that at least he pursues a higher truth.

I know there's a prohibition here on the caf on trendy acronyms, but OMFG!

It's easier to find in truth in something you already do/want to believe in.

Reverse Tourettes’: Miranda Devine Claims Trump Is ‘Almost Incapable of Lying’ Devine also published a New York Post column earlier in the week fawning over Trump, titled, “Ageless President Trump keeps on winning at 80, and laughs in the face of his naysayers.”

That's my father in law right there. In his mind Trump didn't start anything, he had to spend our tax billions out of the goodness of his hero heart. Same type of clowns that complain when a dem gets a 100 dollar donation for their campaign or when they dare spend money on schools to buy books.

My favourite quote from the NY Post article:

"If Sunday’s Iran deal delivers what the administration has promised, Trump will have saved the Middle East from nuclear Armageddon, defanged the world’s most dangerous bully and potentially set in motion an enduring peace. That’s on top of negative net migration thanks to a secure border, record highs of US energy production and record deportations of Biden’s illegal alien criminals, leading to homicides at record lows, not to mention the beautification of Washington, DC."

Wow. Some will see that quote as poetry.

Only cost us tax payers $300billion, a 4.2% inflation rate, and zero chance of retirement to get a worse deal than Obama originally had already in place. Not to mention the lives lost and additional costs to sustain his pointless war. Way to go Captain dipshite.

Don't forget that during this war Trump has also made several promises outside of Hormuz that he repeated a lot:
  1. Iran ballistic missiles are dangerous, that's why they bombed the production facilities. They're threats to US and middle east -> Now he says it'd be unfair for them to not have ballistic missiles
  2. They're gonna take the remaining enriched plutonium to ensure no nuclear weapon development in near future -> Now he says he's not even bothered by it
  3. Sanctions on Iran and blockade until Iran surrender to American demands -> Now he wants to give them 300 billions worth of frozen assets back
  4. He wanted Kevin Warsh to be the new Fed chair, calling Powell "too late to cut rates". He's pro cutting rates and pro economy -> Turns out Warsh' focus is on inflation so no cutting rates and rumors are saying Fed might even increase it. When asked about it he says "not bothered" by Fed keeping rates due to rising inflation
So there is no winning at all.

You can see how he managed to bankrupt not just one but four casinos . He's a thick as shit reality TV star that is incredibly lucky he was born into wealth and can keep getting bailed out from his failed attempts at business.

Lying like this should have consequences.

I think his power is more to do with the erasure of true and false as an meaningful dichotomy. All that matters is the narrative you choose.

That's an interesting way of framing it. No to get too wonky about it, but in the middle of the 20th century there was a philosophical school of thought that held that there was no such thing as objective truth. That true and false is in no way a meaningful dichotomy. This school of thought had different strands but we can categorize them all under the label of relativism. Truth, it was held, is nothing more than an assertions of constructs by those who wield power, that there is no eternal graspable essence of anything, even the laptop one types his banter on.

What I wonder is whether the sycophants who have enabled Trump grew resentful that their rejection of relativism, historicism and positivism -- and I am speaking primarily of the Claremont school of thought -- but "conservatism" generally -- simply gave up on objective reality, such as the barbarism of January 6, rampant corruption, and so much else -- that they too have talked themselves into believing the unbelievable or whether they do not actually believe the unbelievable but are simply drawn like moths to the flame of power.

In other words, a simple descent not a lot different than the fable of the Golden Calf.

For Iran stuff, I have a feeling he's getting a good chunk of change from the 300billion into his own companies (or Kushner companies). There's no other explanation about the way he's done a 180 pretty much.

An excerpt from The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan’s upcoming book, published on Thursday by the Daily Mail, revealed that White House staff allegedly needed to monitor President Donald Trump’s trash after it was discovered that “he was sometimes throwing out” sterling silver utensils.

It's like daycare for grandpa

“A nighttime snacker, the President would frequently leave an array of empty potato chip bags, Starbucks wrappers, and ice cream cartons in the trash, or on the floor,” they wrote.
40-50 year Olds drop dead of heart issues, clots, strokes....this guy just keeps getting away with it.

What a shocker. Trump lies.

I've lost count of how many times I've said to myself, that's absolutely not true, or that never happened after hearing Trump say something about a conversation he's had with a foreign leader or when he's claimed they have asked him to do something or told him something.

I've always been surprised that aside from the Iranians (who nobody believes anyway) I can't think of maybe two or three times someone has.called bullshit and disputed the conversation ever happening or correcting what was said. It's a wonder to me as to why more leaders haven't come out in their own defence as often the comments he makes make the person he's claimed to have been speaking to look incredibly weak or stupid or like another MAGA bootlicker. I guess they all think it's easier just to keep the peace with him as it will be forgotten about in a day or so anyway.

It seems Meloni has had enough. It's telling that she said this though after the clips of her speaking to him in what appeared to be a very stern manner at the recent meetings of leaders in France.

Speaking g of which, this might just be my favourite picture of Trump. Ever. Well maybe second favourite after the amazing one of him in the sky blue suit jacket and shorts with the knee high white boots. That is just truly something else.

Because it pays to suck up to Trump or shut the feck up and let him rant. You can get deals that you don't get if you massage the ego of one man. The US is a strong country. Earlier you needed to bring something big to the table for the US to give you something in return. Now, all you need is to big up one man.
Then for some other countries, they need the US on their side. If you pick a fight with Trump, you end up on the wrong side of the US. There is no middle path or diplomatic voices in play. If Trump doesn't like something he may make it tough for you.

And then traditional allies of the US don't really want to break off with the US. Even Trump knows this. Most countries will not walk away from the US, just because Trump said something offensive. Many see this as a temporary blip in the friendship than long term feud.

That looks really fake.

It does, but it's not.

I think it's just Trump went for the French double kiss and the camera just caught the perfect moment.

Yeah, I get that and always put it down to that myself too. I just think now he's actually looking so weak and vulnerable, not just physically and mentally, but especially on foreign affairs, that maybe countries leaders would stand their ground a bit more.

It's all well and good ignoring things and being the bigger person to appease Trump or to not antagonise him with the long term view of him not being there much longer but at the same time they also have to judge how their apathy or reluctance to stand up for themselves or their country looks to the people in their own countries.

I suppose it's a double edged sword for many.

Meloni getting the taste of her own medicine when put in front of a bigger & stronger bully than her is just funny once you consider the short circuit running now among all her "strongwoman" (nope, just another Trump's "coquette", right?) allies and bootlickers.
