It's so difficult to feel sympathy for them though. I'm a guy so maybe i should feel sympathy for them because theyre dealing with a misogynistic boss which I wouldn't have to deal with. On the other hand, wtf did they expect?

Because the things they tried in Trump 1.0, Biden presidency, etc. almost all failed. They simply lost.

Yet the institutional response has often amounted to remarkably feckall. Sure, there have been the odd lawsuits, protests and individual acts of resistance, but I've seen no sustained or coherent opposition capable of imposing meaningful political costs. Whether it's accommodation, normalization, powerlessness, ineffectiveness or a general lack of cojones the truth of the matter is Trump is getting with whatever he wants to.

I’m genuinely curious how others explain it. Why has Trump 2.0 faced so much less visible resistance than Trump 1.0 despite governing in a more aggressive, corrupt and openly transactional way?

Trump delivers. Whether you kiss his arse or spite him. He delivers the rewards and the punishment.

I recall what was it... Colonel Vindman? The one who whistleblow on him in the first period and they hung him out to dry. Didnt see the dem bailing him out.

Jan 6. He did pardon them. That says alot to his supporter (now don't get antsy about right or wrong on this caf. That's another issue)

Many people who should have no business in the whitehouse got position from secdef, head of fbi, speaker, etc.

Not to mention he delivers on giving profit to his corrupt buddies.

He's like Escobar. His lead is real, so is his silver.

The dems are some polite politicians who dont give a feck about you either way

I think it is because people voted for Trump even knowing what he was. America is still a democracy and it is not easy for the democrats or the media to villainise daily the will of a lot of the American people.

The first sensible comment in here for a while.

The truth is that democrats are hamstrung by congress, the senate and the supreme court. They are doing what they can, especially fighting the Trump administration in court and winning mostly.

Why are we not in the streets? We‘ll get shot, teargassed, deported and jailed. Trump is ready to turn the military on his own people.

It indeed is. Morons like Cash can stay in a job even after blowing on twitter that the FBI raided the homes of two NYT journalists due to the president being pissed off at them. Kegbreath blow national security on Whatsapp and can waste billions of tax dollar money on a war he talked Trump into it seems, still has a job. RFK Jr. can bring back long eradicated diseases that no other developed nation has anymore, still has a job. It's amazing with how much incompetence you can get away in his admin if you have and are a dick.

If that's true then it is time for a new revolution. However the point made before you was that actually a lot of US-Americans still support what Trump stands for. Which makes all this much more difficult.

The main problem are the majority of the US citizens who either actively support or at least ignore what is going on.

They turned the USA into enemies of the free West and the rest of us watches in horror.

I’m not sure Trump looks after his own is really the lesson here. He looks after people for as long as they’re useful to him. The moment they're not they're discarded, vilified and attacked.

Pence spent four years humiliating himself for Trump and was rewarded with a mob chanting for his hanging. Jeff Sessions was one of his earliest major supporters and got publicly destroyed. Giuliani sacrificed his reputation, career and finances for him. Cohen went to prison. Bannon was pushed out. Musk went from indispensable ally to enemy almost overnight. Then you have Sean Spicer, Reince, Scaramucci, Rex Tillerson, Mattis, McMaster, John Bolton, Mark Esper, Bill Barr, Mark Milley etc, etc, the list of people who let his orbit and were attacked is endless. Trump 1.0 had a 80+ percentage turnover rate among senior advisers who suddenly became "enemies".

Even the J6 pardons weren’t really evidence of personal loyalty. They were politically useful, as they reinforced his narrative about a stolen election. It was about him reinforcing a story to his base, fullstop.
 
Such intelligence moves could portend actions ranging from a U.S. military operation in Cuba to stepped up efforts to turn Cuban officials or ordinary citizens against the regime.

It will gradually lose efficiency. The proportion of voters that were actually alive during the Cold War must be diminishing quite rapidly. A pretty fair share of voters weren't even alive for 9/11 (or too young to understand anything).
 
GOP talking about communists has never backfired on them long term. It either seems to lock in wavering GOP support or it becomes white noise and people ignore it. There's never been a massive poll swing against the GOP candidate for calling someone a communist.

Though I wouldn't be surprised to find some centrists and center right Dems to help paint marks on their backs. Republicans will absolutely exploit the division within the Dems if the Dems open that door again. This makes it easier.
