check the like/dislike and comments below this, and compare to a video of a typically divisive trump action anytime before this year. big change in the youtube comments under non-specialised channels, which is more indicative of the public mood than any other social media.

Looks like the same bunch of thickos as usual to me.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVossaid Tuesday that she is “very seriously” considering withholding federal funding from schools that don’t reopen in the fall.

"We are looking at this very seriously. This is a very serious issue across the country," DeVos told Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

DeVos recently told state leaders on a conference call that plans to allow in-person activities only a few days a week were unacceptable, arguing that another semester of remote learning would hurt students.

I doubt I’ll see her standing in a classroom with me.
At this point, they just want to make the public school system as obsolete as possible. Covid is just another opportunity to fast track their goal to cut more funding. Want more funding? tough shit your school is unsafe.

Every now and then I wish I believed in god.

Just so I could take some comfort in the knowledge that DeVos and her ilk will one day burn in hell.

Alas, I'll just have to hope her end is a painful one.

1/3 of teachers are over 50 years old. I’d imagine closer to 1/2 or more of the janitorial staff, lunch staff, and administration are over 50 as well.

@entropy - maybe the plan is to just make martyrs of a lot of us so they can put statues or something up at the new private schools that take our place.

@Redplane - if I came across her on fire, I don’t know that I’d piss on her to put her out.

@WI_Red - yeah no doubt that those assholes aren’t gonna be paying public school classrooms many visits during this grand reopening.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.

I know some people have commented that the Lincoln Project is going to be a huge problem for the Democrats in 2024 (if they defeat Trump this time around with their help), but ads like this make me doubt the "Republicans against Trump" thing that they have been described as. This ad is pretty much scorched Earth of GOP leadership. If they are Republicans against Trump, they're the kind of Republicans that basically don't exist in the GOP anymore.

Pretty much. fecking over public schools is a bipartisan affair. Obama did it with Booker when his administration pushed for charter schools. Republicans are just a bit more forthright and cutthroat about it.

Nice! This targeted many of those who are running for re-election in Senate.

Seems that LincolnProject are gonna go after GOP, not only after Trump. Which is awesome. A normal center-right party is good to have, cause it will provide balance to the left. GOP has not been a normal center-right party (or a normal party) for more than a decade now. I don't think it will happen, but would love to see their utter destruction. And I am happy to see them being targeted, instead of pretending that the only problem is Trump.

It didn't hurt Trump when he did it to the gold star family.
True but now isn't then and she lost both legs fighting for the USA, her father was a Vietnam vet and her ancestors have military service going back to the civil war. Carlson also claimed that she doesn't love the USA because she said that perhaos we ought to have an adult conversation about status. That is it.

Question. If Biden dies halfway during his presidency, can Tammy be the POTUS considering that she was foreign-born (in Bangkok)?

Dude I said that to a friend of mine like last week. You aren’t alone.
Serious question: what's the end game for DeVos? I mean, obviously she wants to drive the public school system into the ground, but what does she think that will accomplish? Surely she does believe all Americans, even the poor, need schooling. How will that be possible if only private schools remain? I doubt she'll champion income-based government vouchers to pay for education, and I suppose she is not evil enough to actually want basic education to be income-dependent. So I feel I'm missing something here.

Yeah, interesting, isn't it. I've read from their spokespeople that their goal is to remove all Trumpers from the GOP. But it's now basically the party of Trump, so even those opposing him have gone into hiding, pretending to support him or at least not opposing him. In that sense, it's logical that they go all-out against the entire party, cause 'Trumpers' and 'GOP' now seem synonymous. But what does it leave for them? Do they intend to found a new party once they've burned the GOP, or expect the old GOP to rise from its ashes?

That’s a damn good question dude. My guess is she wants to drive public schools down to the point of almost collapsing and then leave them in place in that state to accomplish a form of segregation. The poor that can’t afford private school will be the only ones left in public schools.

So she didn't actually meet with any of them face to face. It was a remote meeting.

Yep. I doubt I’ll be seeing her visiting any classrooms either

He's quoting Michael Caine as Nigel Powers from Austin Powers Goldmember.
Haven't seen that movie in ages. Nevertheless, sounds like your average Belgian person. We love to hate the Dutch. Holland is a great country, with mostly nice people but there is a rivalry that will always remain. Dutch have the same with Germans.

We've been conquered by so many different countries (French, Germans, Dutch, Spanish, Romans...) and only exist for about 150 years. We've got hardly any national identity whatsoever :)

Second line of the Dutch national anthem:
ben ik, van Duitsen bloed, (I am of german blood)

That's why I always vote for Johan Cruyff as the second best german footballer of all time....

But we are getting offtopic.

Nonsense, Belgium isnt really a country, just some angry French and Dutch secessionists. No idea why France and us havent just annexed their halfs.

Regarding Germans, they're like us bar the good looks and sense of humor. We're also much better at football, even if they've somehow won slightly more world cups.

So, the evil scenario. I actually wouldn't put it past her, either.

Hey, now! Guess I have to jump in as a (former? part-time? whatever?) Dutchy....

Totally off-topic, but something I wonder about: do Belgians make any difference between different part of the Netherlands? (Not 'Holland', damn it!) I grew up in the south (hence the 'not Holland'), and I often feel more connected to Flanders (more so than Wallonia I guess) than NL 'above the rivers'. In fact, my grand-parents used to watch the Belgian king's speeches (like at Christmas) instead of the Dutch queen's, cause she meant nothing to them. I wonder if that would make any sense to Belgians.

[nerd] Except 'Duitsen' at that time meant something else than 'German'. It's actually the same word as 'Dutch'; hence you'll find references to the languages 'Low Dutch' (Dutch) and 'High Dutch' (German) in Gulliver's Travels. [/nerd]

Not that that's common knowledge in the Netherlands, and the anthem also has a beautiful line about always having honoured the king of Spain. Actually, come to think of it, change that with Russia, and it could be about Trump - I'm sure he'd love his own paean as the new American anthem!
