The U.S. and Israel attack Iran | Peace deal finally on?

Not all adults are intelligent. And framing within headlines matters, a lot. Every editor will be able to verify this. It goes so far, that some papers have people who specialise in choosing the right headline. Many people actually, as sad as that is, read nothing but headlines and do form opinions based on that.
Absolutely true. At every publication I've ever worked on, the vast majority of complaints are about the headline, even if they admit the article is balanced.
It's obviously also what comes up on searches and stays on google forever, often even after the article is deleted.

They have mentioned it's an Israeli attack, it's in their news feed about the war.
Just had a re read and they never mention Israel in this morning's live feed when reporting the attack on the South Pars gas field.

And it's a very important detail that this escalation on attacking energy infrastructure was started by Israel.

You'd think from the media narrative that Iran had woken up and decided to start bombing their neighbours' oil fields for the craic. No mention of the fact that Israel and the US had preceded this by bombing their energy infrastructure.

I rarely check media from other countries (except BBC, CNN...) but in our national media it's been widely reported as a retribution for the attacks on the Iranian oil/gas fields. From different Belgian newspapers:

"Iran heeft belangrijke gasinstallaties in Qatar aangevallen als vergelding voor een Israëlische aanval op een groot Iraans gasveld. Qatar is een belangrijke exporteur van vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas (lng), onder meer naar Europa."
"Iran has attacked key gas installations in Qatar in retaliation for an Israeli attack on a major Iranian gas field. Qatar is a major exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), including to Europe."

"Na Amerikaans-Israëlische aanvallen op een Iraans gasveld gisteren dreigde Teheran met vergeldingsaanvallen op gasvelden en raffinaderijen in de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten, Saudi-Arabië en Qatar. Daarbij werd de Samref-raffinaderij, een van de belangrijkste in Saudi-Arabië, ook genoemd."
"Following American-Israeli attacks on an Iranian gas field yesterday, Tehran threatened retaliatory attacks on gas fields and refineries in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. The Samref refinery, one of the most important in Saudi Arabia, was also mentioned in this context."

I think/hope our msm is largely unbiased.

Which means there are further nonces in the British Media that we are not aware of yet but Israel is.

I’ve read the BBC news site this morning and it’s clear to me from reading that Israel struck the South Pars facility first and that Iran struck back elsewhere in retaliation.
Trump knew Israel would strike according to the WP which Trump denies.
South Pars is a joint gas field (Iran/Qatar). Trump has now threatened to blow South Pars to smithereens if Iran keeps targeting Saudi (I think).

I can’t see what the complaints are about the BBC on this. The live feed is pretty good from what I can see when compared to other news sites too.

So Trump is warning Iran not to bomb Qatar by threatening to *checks notes* - bomb an oil field they share with Qatar?

I can’t see what the complaints are about the BBC on this. The live feed is pretty good from what I can see when compared to other news sites too.

It wasn't the reporting in the article, it was the headline that omitted the fact that Israel were the initial aggressors with their attack on the oil fields.

I don't even think we need to get into conjecture. We know there's been hundreds of internal staff complaints at the BBC for forcing pro-israel narratives, we know cases of Israeli lobby groups getting headlines changed. The BBC are currently fighting a FOI request to provide data on cals between editors and Israeli officials/embassy staff.

The BBC purposely pushes a pro-israel approach to it's headlines. Whether that's due to the politics of senior leadership, government interference or as I suspect risk avoidance so they don't get called anti-semetic tor reporting truths.

Have to disagree, this is just one example posted at 07.33

UK gas prices this morning have soared over 20% after fresh strikes hit energy infrastructure in the Middle East, including Qatar's main gas facility.

UK gas prices are currently up by 23% to 171p per therm.

The oil price is trading at around 5% higher, at $113 a barrel.

Two waves of Iranian strikes caused "extensive damage" at Qatar's main gas hub, the country's state-run energy firm has said.
If you wake up and this is the first thing you read it comes across like Iran just randomly decided to bomb Qatari gas fields, the context is really important and is negligent to leave it out.

Here is another update posted 7.14:

These strikes, in Iran and Qatar, mark one of the most significant escalations since the conflict began when it comes to energy infrastructure. Ras Laffan in Qatar is the world's largest liquefied natural gas plant.

Qatar's state-owned petroleum company says it suffered "extensive damage" and its closure was enough to send energy prices shooting up – and markets sliding down.

Just north, in the Iranian part of the Gulf, is the South Pars gas field – which Donald Trump's threatened to destroy "entirely" if Iranian attacks on Qatar persisted.

However, President Trump's assurance that Israel wouldn't attack South Pars, if Iran didn't attack Qatar, points to an awareness of these sites' huge importance to the world's energy markets.

Another here, where it's mentioned the South Pars gas field was attacked but never mention Israel did it:

Both Qatar and the UAE had condemned the attack at Iran's South Pars gas field, warning it threatened "global energy security".

Now the Gulf is bearing the brunt of Iran's fury. In Qatar, Ras Laffan was hit repeatedly but fires there are now under control. The UAE's Habshan gas facility and Bab field have been forced to shut down. Authorities say they were hit by debris from intercepted attacks.

Saudi Arabia too was targeted, saying it thwarted attacks in the east, and in the capital Riyadh.

In response, Qatar has now expelled two Iranian diplomats, and Saudi Arabia has warned it is reserving the right to respond militarily.

Iran was already isolated, but now it has severely damaged its relationships with regional neighbours who were willing to mediate on its behalf.

I could go on but i think I've made my point.

Why are we discussing what ships and military equipment are needed to accompany ships through the strait of Hormuz?

This is an unprovoked unnecessary war that can be stopped at any time. Just give Trump something so he can declare he won, and move on.

The last thing anyone should do is help move ships through the strait.
Give him a trophy of some sort “Best war leader” or some other childish nonsense and he’ll be done

Things are getting worse. It’s time that the U.S. end this war.

Declare victory, decry others for “not helping,” moan an complain about whomever you want. Do whatever you please. Just put this war to bed.

The proper headlining of the events was probably best done by... fecking Trump! Media should have some shame

Yeah, shallow headlines are very often clickbait and so, also people complaining are just not very much in that game themselves

The media is always on Israel side, including the “liberal” mainstream outlets. You know, the people who lecture us about human rights and the importance of “every life.”

This is already known. Don’t be shocked.

This $200b is the tip of the iceberg. Ordinary Americans can thank Benjamin Netanyahu and his lackeys in Congress for the trillion-dollar ‘Israel First tax’ that’s about to hit U.S. economy.

The BBC are reporting a more than 20% rise in UK gas prices. feck this.

Yeah, feck this. And the lives of thousands of Arabs. And our pensions savings and daily living costs.

But the absolutely worst thing about this pointless war is the fact that no one will be held responsible for it. No justice at all

Not sure about the Beeb. But risk avoidance is probably the main reason why the Gazza Genocide title has gone back to Israel-Palestine, as if it's some sort of football game. Don't want to be labelled anti semitic or something do we.

I‘m a firm believer in calling things what they are, but that’s not how the world works unfortunately.

I have to restrain myself constantly from writing what I really think, on this topic.

You can see that some of this attribution stuff is just the BBC taking its time to confirm what happened. It becomes more confident in assigning responsibility unilaterally as time passes. The BBC does seem to show a greater willingness to assign blame when Iran is the aggressor, but some of this might also be down to Iran claiming strikes while Israel maintains its silence. There's also the fact that early doors it still could have been the Americans. I do think that there's undeniably a far greater willingness to use Iran in the headline though. The word 'Israel' was used in precisely one headline regarding the strikes at South Pars and in that singular case the BBC still took care to name both them and Iran as co-aggressors. Meanwhile Iran's name appears as the aggressor in 8 headlines regarding the strike at Ras Laffan.

Ya. There will be so many "help out Israel" packages coupled with critical bills. And things will not get passed for the Americans until enough money is given to Israel.

Iran's strike was in response to Israel hitting its South Pars gas field, located offshore in the Gulf, between Iran and Qatar.

'Iran war' is used a lot in headlines cos it's short and everyone understands it. Keeping headlines short can be really difficult, but is massively preferable.

Depends on what you're trying to say and what's verified etc too.

It's also the location of the war.

I agree, that's why I tried to find only those terms that were used to indicate an "aggressor" that was tied to a specific act, rather than looking for their use as a more nebulous epithet. So things like "Israeli strikes" and "Iranian missiles" count whereas stuff such as "Iran War" would not. So I thought take two analagous acts (Iranian oil field, Qatari gas installation) and compare how the two aggressor countries are reported on with regards to each.

Iran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi: Our response to Israel's attack on our infrastructure employed FRACTION of our power. The ONLY reason for restraint was respect for requested de-escalation.ZERO restraint if our infrastructures are struck again. Any end to this war must address damage to our civilian sites.

Qatar Energy CEO:

- One of the two gas-to-liquids facilities was damaged as a result of the Iranian attack.
- We will lose 17% of Qatar's liquefied gas exports for a period of between 3 and 5 years.
- We may be forced to declare a force majeure in long-term contracts, for a period of up to five years.

UK and allies say they are ready to join 'efforts to ensure safe passage' in strait of Hormuz

The UK has joined European allies and Japan in saying they were ready “to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the strait of Hormuz”.

In a joint statement, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan condemned Iran’s attacks on commercial vessels and oil and gas facilities in the Gulf, while expressing “deep concern” over the escalating conflict.

The statement said:

We condemn in the strongest terms recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas installations, and the de facto closure of the strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces.

We express our deep concern about the escalating conflict. We call on Iran to cease immediately its threats, laying of mines, drone and missile attacks and other attempts to block the strait to commercial shipping, and to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817.
It continued:

We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the strait. We welcome the commitment of nations who are engaging in preparatory planning.

We welcome the International Energy Agency decision to authorise a coordinated release of strategic petroleum reserves. We will take other steps to stabilise energy markets, including working with certain producing nations to increase output.

We will also work to provide support for the most affected nations, including through the United Nations and the IFIs (International Financial Institutions).

I hope that doesn't mean we have been strongarmed into deploying military assets to clean up this mess.

Yeah, I wonder what this means. Going in now, or maintaining that they'll only enter once the situation has calmed down?

I guess Trump has managed to bully all the European leaders again.

Trump wins, again.

Surely we're not going to volunteer to walk the plank for Trump and Netanyahu? "appropriate efforts" sounds fairly noncommittal. You never know though, some of our leaders have lost the plot and probably see a warped sense of duty in laying down their people's lives for the US and Israel.
