The U.S. and Israel attack Iran

For Cyprus but not for the US. Apparently France are negotiating with Iran to let EU ships through the strait.
Hope it stays that way - and good on France.

However, I was actually surprised (my knowledge is not very big on this) to see how small a part of the oil coming via Hormuz goes to Europe. Asian countries are far worse off. China will probably be okay, but India, Japan, and South Korea are especially fecked. What are they going to do?

Of course, it hits everyone including the US through the decreased supply/higher prices.

Its crazy how its all happening during ramadan. Usually its the highest economy acitivty of the year for muslim countries. It must really suck to be one of those gcc countries and they must be really pissed of at Trump.

India has apparently negotiated some ships to be allowed through, and seems they have/are passing through

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken it's gas that is more important for Europe in terms of supplies and the biggest issue is just global prices.

Why Haven’t the Houthis Fired?
  • Fear of generating signatures that get picked up by American and Israeli intelligence.
  • Degraded launch sites, storage facilities and command nodes.
  • Degraded arsenal.
  • They gained some legitimacy and respect for standing up for Palestine but if they join this war, they'll be seen as bombing Arab cities and civilians as a favor to Iran.
  • Risk of unifying Saudi Arabia and UAE if Houthis restart Red Sea attacks.
  • Subjugating Yemenis safer than fighting America.
https://foreignpolicy.com/2026/03/1...perations-calculus-ground-force-mobilization/

For what it's worth, and I admit I don't know really, in the Islamic/Muslim world there are two theories circulating about the Houthis. One is that the Houthis were never going to enter the war aid Iran (or USA) and neither were the Kurds (as I have suggested before on here).

Although the Houthis are shia and so are Iran there is a difference. The Houthis Shia are more in tune with sunni Islam than the shia Islam of the Iranians.

The Houthis are not really friends of Iran or vice versa. They are known to dislike/hate each other based on religious and political terms. However they "need" each other. Iran supplies the weapons to Houthis and Houthis help with oil getting through etc for Iran. It's a marriage of convenience.

That said, and to add a sort of balance, there are some quarters in the Islamic/Muslim world that are arguing that the Houthis have been purposefully told not to enter the war yet. Basically they could be the "secret weapon" in Irans strategy in the war. A sort of strategic reserve if needed.

I'm not saying or claiming either are true. Just supplying, if you will, some thoughts I have read or heard from sources outside western (for want of a better word) sources

I don't have a strong view either way.

Why do you feel its so certain they won't use Nukes? I will play devils advocate:

- Deranged war mongering country
- Religious zealots
- Comfortable carrying out genocide
- Has threatened use of nukes in the past
- No moral code

I was listening to somebody yesterday. Can't for the life of me remember who, might have even been Carlson on the Morgan show.

Basically I was at in Iftari out. So not at home and stuff was playing in the background.

The suggestion, in the clip I caught, was about Israel motive being wanting America out of the middle East. The thinking being that America has severely limited Israeli operations over the years. A sort of had a leash on going all out in incidents involving them. With Netanyahu and his ilk wanting them out if the way so they are not restricted in future operations/ land grabs etc.

Looks like Switzerland won't allow use of its airspace for any war efforts

For a country that have remained neutral for so long, that's the third time this week they have come out and chosen a side. Although technically this could be seen as remaining neutral I suppose. It's only because of their recent statements that it's clear they don't agree with what the US or Israel are doing.

Not really, was in British Armed forces for around a decade, then went to work as a paper pusher for NATO and now I'm in private sector consulting.

You obviously don't have to answer this publicly but you're not from Sunderland are you?

I only ask because I had a friend/acquaintance from there. Ex special forces. Knew his shit about military strategy/weaponry etc.

We lost touch a few years back and I've not manage to locate him.

Just there have been incidences, even one yesterday, that shows what a small world we live in. Eg I ran into a young lass (friends with a niece) who had been invited for a meal at their house. Turned out to be the granddaughter of a man I haven't seen in over 2 decades (moved out of UK). Also the daughter of a couple I knew as a kid (both mum and dad).

Also this week gave a lift to a woman and her sisters daughter in law. She was the daughter of a lad I knew growing up and had been adopted by another lad who was a friend and now had married this lad whose dad had died years ago but was a good friend.

It seems little more than an affirmation of their long standing neutrality.

What would the wider implications be if Britain, France and the rest of Europe decided not to comply with Trump’s request? I mean, as a European, I feel like we’ve endured nothing but insults from Trump over the last few years. Would be good to tell him to get fecked.

More tariffs and making life difficult for European businesses over there, US to leave NATO, Trump going for Greenland again are probably among them. Ukraine could unfortunately also pay a big price.

I hope eventually long term we can distance ourselves from the US. I’m not convinced that Trump is a one off at this point.

Don't take my word for it, but IMO it's always about genocide and land grab for them
What else would it be for? Thankfully they've not gained too much ground. Turns out it isn't so easy when your targets aren't kids and civilians hiding in schools and hospitals.

So as far as I understand it he doesn't want any Johnny come lately British ships to join after the war has already been won but he wants British ships because the Hormuz is closed. He's destroyed 100% of Iran's military capability but Iran retains some military capabilities. Is there any meat left in the stew of his mind?
If only the US media would have the balls to ask, or do something

Of course he’s not a one off, they elected him twice.
I meant that there’s a core base there to manipulate for any unscrupulous politician in the future. I know there are millions of Americans who are great people and who didn’t vote for him but I’m not sure this slide stops with Trump.

In other words, you show the news which we want to be shown. What happened to freedom of press?

Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions - also known as the fake news - have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up.

The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not.

And frankly, changing course is in their own business interests since trust in legacy media has now fallen to an all time low of just 9% and are ratings disasters.

The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves.

It is very important to bring trust back into media, which has earned itself the label of fake news.

When a political candidate is able to win a landslide election victory after in the face of hoaxes and distortions, there is something very wrong. It means the public has lost faith and confidence in the media. And we can’t allow that to happen.

Is this actually the Fourth Reich?

Trump: “we may hit it a few more times just for fun”

Is it fun in a cost of living crisis when you have to pay more for gas, when you can't afford to heat your home and your kids have to go hungry? Is it fun pushing countries in to a recession? Is it fun to have to scrape the remains of US forces into a box, to ship home to their families?

When you start to suffer as a result of this debacle just remember that the US and Israel, and especially Trump, are all having fun, on their Epic Fury excursion.

Trump about Iran firing on US bases: “the biggest surprise I had of this whole thing.”

Again the Trump administration express surprise that Iran would fire on US bases in the region. Combined with Europe's outrage posturing about Iran's retaliation, one has to ask: does Iran have the right to defend itself? Or are non-white, non-Westerners expected to die like slaughtered beasts.

As for Trump pushing for a broader coalition to get involved, here's an idea, how about Israel and the US get all their ships lined up in the strait, to clean up their own fecking mess. And when they've been entirely Swiss cheesed, then maybe Europe can send some teams over, better off on bended knee and an apology in hand, and try to diplomatically fix this fecking abomination.

Just when inflation and interest rates were starting stabilise, Israel and US had to feck it up for everyone else.

I was thinking this as well. As someone with with lower income the inflation has been crushing but finally things were settling then booom!

I see the headlines where Trump is "demanding" the UK etc provide security in the strait of hormuz. The reaction should be have Israel & the US provide it. Those two started this shit so it's up to those two to figure it out.

Multiple videos uploaded today from Iranians showing fighter jets loitering over cities.

Think any semblance of air defence from Iran is gone now - jets loitering at low altitude is not a good sign to say the least.

CNN just reported Iran says all countries ships have safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz EXCEPT Israeli and US vessels.

It's clear a line is being drawn here. Iran is fighting back with the only real weapon they have and using the media and social media to turn the tide against the two countries responsible for attacking them. They have read the room and waited to see who joined the fight.

Since nobody else has joined in Iran is now doing all they can to punish the US and Israel. It's clear they aren't backing down so yet again the ball is now in Trump and Netenyahu's.court.

My fixed rate mortgage deal is due for renewal too. I was hopeful the BoE might lower interest rates before my deadline but zero chance now.

I wouldn't rule out it being intentional that the bombs started dropping when they did, rather than a few weeks before/after.

Iran war: Israel tells US it's running low on missile interceptors

US officials say Israel’s missile defence stocks are under severe strain during the war with Iran
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/iran-war-israel-tells-us-its-running-low-missile-interceptors

Not a good sign. I just heard on BBC radio that Keir Starmer is considering sending interceptors designed for Ukraine to the middle East. Zelensky getting the short end of the stick again perhaps.
Depends on how you look at it.. Maybe they run out, call it quits and go back home.
