Good to see him running and such. His injury is a new level of bad luck for him. He could be getting time either reliefing the fullbacks or the cms. He should try get a loan to the championship in January

I had high hopes for him when he came. Hopefully he will get some games to show Ole what he can do.

He should absolutely not go for a loan, if he cannot break into the squad with the current options at CDM and fullback, he never will. Ole also appears to be a manager who's looking for some inspiration from anywhere and he's more liable to give TFM his break.

At least he's able to do fitness and form drills. But he's not even close to first team squad selection. He makes Phil Jones and Eric Bailly look fit.

Can we use this guy as a CDM? I’d rather see him play than Matic or even Fred.
not sure why, everything we have seen from TFM so far points to him being the least talented and effective out of those three players

I meant going on loan to regain match fitness. The mistake we made with Shaw is not sending him on loan like Chelsea did with Zouma after his horrendous injury. They need to got to a team where they are going to play regularly to get that match sharpness back not playing here and there.

I don’t know about you, from everything we have seen so far, Matic has declined rapidly and is shit, Fred is absolutely appalling most of the time, Fosu-Mensah is injured, but he might surprise us under a new role and under a new manager. The kid was very good under LVG.

Fosu Mensa is not a midfielder. He has never shown the ball control, positional sense, or passing to be a midfielder. I genuinely don’t know why people keep thinking he’ll be our midfield saviour.

Absense makes players better I suppose.

He was a dominant presence in midfield at reserve level tbf but that's against kids, not the same at all at first team level. Wish him well but he's not at the level we need.

Yeah he played there abit, if you watch the video you might notice similar patterns of play, split forward and flipping no one in the box.

From 2015

Hope he gets fit, it can't hurt having an extra player since I can count our okayish players using my fingers (not including thumbs)

he’s barely Played three games in a row in his professional career, let alone had good ones. To think he could perform better than those two is not really based on anything but hope, objectively he’s just pretty far away from what his old ceiling was. It would be nice if he could find a way to kick on, but he’s just looked so erratic, and in weaker teams than ours.

Very good is such an extreme answer. He has zero track record of being good at any position and sustaining it for any significant playing period such as 5 months at senior level.

One of the most overrated players in caf history. And that's saying a lot.

Fosu-Mensah has more than 50 pro games and more than 40 in the Premier League, the guy is also 21, nobody says he will be a world beater nor good enough, but our options are horrendous, Fred sometimes doesn't even look like a pro footballer, and Matic is even worse. Nobody really knows his ceiling but stranger things have happened in football, if maybe he could find himself a role in the squad, he might still have a future. Unfortunately injuries have derailed his career, and there is very slim chance but if he is to stay here we should use him until the end of the season.

I meant very good for an 18 year old making his debut in a shit show that we were, it is an extreme answer I agree. My point is, we might as well use him while he is here and our options are as bad as they are.

I'm surprised he's still here tbh. Never convinced me. Don't even see him as a PL quality.

The kid needs to be fit and has a ways to go. Then he has to develop as a either a defender or a whatever position. If he's going to stay at United, he's going to make senior appearances in small doses relative to time on pitch and not every week or even every month.

He played as a CB or RB two years ago, but lost his place to AWB now at United. Played as a defender.

Last year at Fulham, he played RB or CB. Only kept one clean sheet, his last appearance with Fulham before being injured and only played 66 minutes in that match.

So there you have it. He's not played central midfield for 3 years and has lost his place to a better player (AWB) or injury (knee injury at Fulham).

Fosu-Mensah would be a good squad player who should be filling in for AWB or Dalot at right back, not Ashley Young. Or be able to be a John O'Shea type player who can function across the back four and maybe central midfield if called upon. He should be pushing Jones, Rojo or Bailly out the door.

I remember the days people used to put him in their hopeful starting 11s as a midfielder. Pereira too and look how that's turned out.

But why though? Much as I'm not a fan of Bailly for example (not that I don't like him, he's just too injury prone and mental), how is TFM any more deserving of a squad place? He's also injury prone and not as good. Just being younger doesn't mean he's more worthy.

He would be a midfield destroyer really, great in tackles and winning the ball, but his passing ability is not great, not sure on his heading either, but he will probably get a chance around Christmas time, when we have plenty of games, but at full back I would imagine. Still, you never know how players develop under different regimes, he could surprise us, but I definitely see Laird as the next United full back.

I don't know why you're bringing up absence. We've been wanting him to be tried out as a destroyer for longer than a year. And nobody is crowning him right now. We're saying to give him a shot.

He’s been absent from the team for a lot longer than a year. We have no room for a “destroyer” that has no positional sense or even adequate passing.

He's not more deserving, I'm speaking more about his current chances. He's a defender first and maybe a defensive midfielder, but highly doubt that at this moment. If he were to kick start his campaign, he'd struggle to make match day squads in the league and maybe make the bench in cup games.

People have thought that since he was on his first loan. Nothing to do with absence.

The most over rated player we've ever had. Genuinely.

He's fast, that's about it. It makes me laugh when people say he could be the "DM we've been waiting for".

Has he even played 1 top flight match in midfield? I don't remember him ever playing there apart from a sub appearance when he got like 5 minutes to sit there and shield.

It's happening right now with Greenwood, Gomes, Tuanzebe, Williams etc

On this forum? I'd agree.

I still remember the "We don't need a new right back, we have TFM to replace Valencia" posts

Exactly this.

I saw thread about its time for Gomes, but he isnt good enough, nothing we have seen suggests he is good enough for the first team. He can barely influence a Europa League game

Greenwood - showed glimpses but should have equalised V Bournemouth, if that chance was missed by anyone else they would be crucified.

Tuanzebe - Apparently should be playing instead of Lindelof - might have a case but made a mistake Vs Arsenal and the caf blamed Lindelof

Williams - He was almost unheard of tbh before he was drafted in.

IIRC he was youth team captain.

 not even comparable.

At least AWB is one of the best in his department. Don't get me wrong he seems a nice kid and I hope he can turn his career around, but what's he shown at Fulham or Palace to think he's good enough?

And somehow after two pretty bad loans playing right back people still think he’ll be a midfielder which he hasn’t played since a few games a youth level. Somehow he’s still rated. That’s only because he hasn’t been playing for us.

I liked him at youth level but he’s just another player that looked good there and struggled with the step up. Injuries haven’t helped but he still has failed to make a case at senior level for his actual position. Never mind one he hasn’t played in years.

I meant we know the ones coming through, Levitt was higher rated on the caf than Williams.

Prior to the season he was not as highly rated as any of the other lads. That's why I feel Williams has done better because he has come in under significantly less fan pressure.

Greenwood, Gomes, Tuanzebe and Garner to a certain extent are being put under alot of pressure. We should let these youngsters develop before calling them the next RVP or Carrick.

Or we could do with not writing off player after just few games.

Apart from running very fast he's not particularly good.
Capped all the way from youth to senior NT, I think many professional coaches disagree with you.

Anyways, he has two years of experience out on loan including PL, I'd have no problems with Ole throwing him some minutes when he regains fitness like he's doing with Garner.

Plenty of young players, including even Rashford.
So they have been written of for a reason otherwise you would be able to name them all.

I don't think Rashford was rated all that highly when he broke through anyway.

He has been coming under criticism this season because he is a first team player leading the line for united earning 200k a week and not delivering.

If the few first team players we have are clearly looking like they are not being coached well enough with the right tactics both individually and as a team - then why do you expect the young players to make a significant difference?

In my opinion the defenders have an easier way of impressing upon starting & it's not that confusing to think why when you actually wonder how poorly our attackers from deep midfield up are coached about passing the ball, switching lanes, cutting passes, making the runs and positions.

Greenwood is the player that highlights how inefficient our tactics are. No matter how young he is - we don't have a left footed RF or RW at the club & he hasn't had many chances to even get to play there with the best of the players around him. I don't care if the lad is a baby ( he isn't) because ultimately no matter the age - the difference between a RW Greenwood & a RW pereira or mata is extremely minimal to the point I'd say that Greenwood is better even if he struggles to score. Not like anyone else does anything. Sure James should start but all the other players having time over Greenwood there shows how poor Ole is in my opinion.
