I think he’s a player who can make a good contribution to the squad. He's a low cost British player who can fill a hole.
But as others have pointed out, he probably should move for the sake of his own career. He needs to play.

We will have CL and the League Cup, at least until January, he is one of only two competent #6s we have. That alone guarantees him a look in, how things go from there is up to his performances. We don't look like we are bringing in another midfielder and I think whatever funds we do have can be reserved for a left back and then we reassess the situation over the next two windows.
I would not mind him as a rotational option to start the year, I think there will be more than enough game time for him in the first part of the season. Assess options in January.
If he goes, you'll know we might get one more midfielder. If he stays, he clocked some pre-season minutes, and looks to be ready for some cup games.
Either way, squad looks deeper with him, or whoever comes in his place.

He would be 5th choice, so at the beginning of the season when everyone is fit, we probably wouldn't have any games at all.

He is 22.. we should look to move him on for 20 odd million or something.
Plays for the wrong team in Manchester, We'd be lucky to get 1/3 of that.

Perhaps at some point, Collyer could be choice to consider, when you know Maguire won't play every game, and someone, from time to time will have to defend vs set pieces with pure height, and physical push.
His ground coverage is elite. If we can’t get a third midfielder, we should keep him.
Collyer looks to me like an athletic player that could do a job for us in the PL in specific circumstances this season, since his skill-set is so different to those of Tielemans, Santos and Mainoo.
If we are defending a lead in an away match, having played CL midweek and one or more of our starting CMs looks exhausted, you could put Collyer on to help us protect the lead.
If we are chasing a goal and want to push lots of players forward, Heaven, Yoro and Collyer have the pace to defend against the counter-attack.

I don't think he is that far off, especially in the PL. You would expect Tielemans and Mainoo to compete for the role alongside Santos because the former duo is just too unathletic for this league so, he has a chance to stake a claim as Santos' back up if he takes his chance.
Keeping him is just a disservice to his career, let him go and find his level and play regularly
That's up to him though, he's never really had much of a chance at OT, and he might fancy an opportunity before deciding he wants to leave, he has some useful attributes that United could use at times this coming season

For every Darren Fletcher there are hundreds of league one level players. We can't keep hold of all of them waiting for one to turn into gold.
Plus people really don't credit Darren Fletcher's youth team career enough. He was extremely highly thought of coming out of the academy, much more than the likes of Collyer.
Tbf out of any of the midfielders currently at the club after the 3 first teamers, he's the one I'd probably rely on most to do a job. Gets up and down the pitch really well and he's always looked an okay player.

With all the noise about MLS, and United looking for a player that can play both CM and LB - didn't Collyer play a match or two under EtH as an emergency LB? Or was that only Amrabat who did that?
It’s like when people see him play again they realise he is actually a good player. I maintain has a better passing range than people may believe as I have seen him play long passes accurately into the channels before for example as well as keep it neat and tidy.

I agree. There's a lot more than what he is currently showing. He is definitely ahead of Tyler Fletcher currently.

Would love to see him getting a loan to a lower premier league club, back to hull for example and doing well there! Could get himself a great move in the future.
He played a league cup game against Barnsley there. Going off that game he’s not a viable option there.

I don't understand this place, he has showed nothing to be anywhere near the squad next year. I am all for letting him go out on loan or be sold but right now he shouldn't be with the squad we should be bringing in a player capable.

Cheers - I had thought he'd played there but couldn't put my finger on exactly when.
I'm not advocating for him being used at LB at all, but I do think it's a possible angle for our ownership to cheap out and not invest in our squad.

Hopefully he will show more wherever he lands. Consistency can breed confidence, and a coach like Carrick.
He should be ahead, Collyer turns 23 before the Fletchers turn 20. He's older and more experienced, especially after his spell at Hull.
It doesn't mean he's a more talented player overall though.
