Well worth a place in the squad, esp to compliment recent additions

Mainoo, Tielemans, Santos and Mount...Collyer if needed to round out cameo minutes makes perfect sense rather than splashing 50m on a fifth choice central midfielder.

Tielemans and Mainoo are the two options at 8
Santos is the only option at 6

Mount must be assumed unavailable for most of the season until he proves otherwise.

We need to buy another midfielder to rotate with Santos.

Mainoo played 6 plenty last season with Casemiro going forward

I wouldn't fancy him and Tielemans for any sustained period of time.

He did take the slightly deeper role towards the end of the season but he was still playing next to one of the best defensive midfielders in the last 30 years. Casemiro still got through loads of defensive work and used all his defensive instincts and experience. I love Youri but he's a different type of player.

And even if you say that you're comfortable with it, we are still a player light.

Pretty crazy how people want Colliyer to stay but want to sell Zirkzee because he's had his chance.

The whole 2 years to succeed or your sold is clearly bullsh.

That's where Toby comes in. Fast, strong and tidy on the ball. He's already played PL games for us and acquitted himself well. I remember arguing for keeping Garner only to see him turn into a 60m player at Everton while we signed Ugarte. Let's not make the same mistake again.

Collyer is a youth player showing a bit of promise after some bad injuries. He's played 90 minutes for United once, in the EFL cup.
Zirkzee cost £36 million, has 74 first team games and achieved very little.

I don't think it's crazy to apply different standards of patience to their development.

The 2 years is clearly in respect of signings not players coming through the youth set up as of course young players will have different pathways. With that said I really am not sure Toby is a realistic prospect for us this season. His limited success on loan was due to injuries and there is the rub, you can argue he would have excelled if he stayed fit but by the same token you could argue that his fitness record is already becoming a concern. In the eyes of the club he is clearly surplus but as with Amass they feel he is good enough that they want a real fee for him, something in the 6M+ range and so far it is not forthcoming. If he does end up staying it will only be because we could not find a buyer and we would probably be more inclined to loan him out in the hopes that a strong start will improve our chances of a permanent sale in January.

It’s like when people see him play again they realise he is actually a good player. I maintain has a better passing range than people may believe as I have seen him play long passes accurately into the channels before for example as well as keep it neat and tidy.

Should probably leave for his own good but would be a great squad player who could still develop further at 22.
The economics dictate that we keep him and give him a chance to establish himself as an option for DM role. Whatever funds we have go towards the pursuit of Hall, what gettable midfielder who is going to make an impact are going to sign in the next two weeks, for the prices we are willing to pay?

We have done well from an accounting perspective towards balancing the books having a net spend of £35m. From a football perspective it looks risky, especially if Santos doesn't work out well for us and then De Ligt and Sesko stay out for long periods. If a lad or a few from the youth set up can step up then it would be a real boon for us.

I am rooting for him, there aren't many better ball winners than him around and he is tidy on the ball unlike Ugarte. With growing confidence I believe we will see more from him. I just hope that he gets a chance, takes it and wins a squad role this season.

People need to understand that we dug ourselves into a big financial hole during the ETH era, yes it was a long time ago but we are still dealing with the ramifications of its excesses. Players from the youth system are one of the ways to dig ourselves out of it.

I’m not fully sure about the economics exactly but your right in that we are currently affected financially from overpaying for certain players in the past and we have to manoeuvre more prudently and I’m sure this will benefit us in the long run.

However after reading Carricks recent comments in the Athletic article it’s seems we will try if we believe there’s value for money.

I think there will be further movement in the market but regardless of that I’m always more for in house development, whether that be players that become first teamers or just squad players like Brown, O’Shea and others have. Steady, reliable and consistent. It’s an underrated quality it’s seems for some.

Also from the same article he was alluding to creating more structure and playing time for younger players so hopefully it does come to fruition whether Collyer stays or not.

His relative low cost in the context of us still paying fees and wages for failed transfers like Onana, Ugarte and the unfortunate Mount. Getting a midfielder that could give you around 20 appearances whilst just being happy to play would be a huge bonus. If Collyer makes it, we theoretically save circa £40m and that could come in handy next summer when going for a marquee signing in a more impactful position.

Yeah in relation to monies owed we still have to look long term regardless as the figures involved in the past continue to have an affect due to transfer structure. I’m more enthusiastic about it in relation to letting both Collyer potential develop this season and hopefully 1 or 2 more from about 5 young midfielders we have. Potential savings again.

Don’t know what his numbers are like but he has always looked useful to me

Seems like he's behind T. Fletcher as well, so...
I dont see a conspiracy or massive nepotism, but he looks head and shoulders above Tyler. I know there's three years in the difference, so this season could be make or break.

Tyler at 19 could probably do with a loan more than Toby.

The only midfielder that should be going on loan should be Jack Fletcher as we are stacked in the position he plays.
I thought Tyler Fletcher did alright in the preseason games that I have seen but Toby is easily our best option after the big names at the club.
He is the best midfielder at covering ground, is two footed and moves the ball quickly and offers height in defence.
I would be happy if Page is the only midfielder we bring in and watch his potential.

We all naturally want more and more and more players...or beer, women or whatever...but the club has done outstanding work in bringing in Santos and Tielemans, and with Mainoo already being ridiculous as it is, and with Mount looking great at least in pre-season we're just not going to spend 100m to bring in Tchouameni or even 65m to bring in Baleba. We're pretty decent in central midfield now. Yes, all five of our central midfielders go down with injury but the chances of that happening are pretty remote.

Better to give the cameo role to a young midfielder like Collyer, see what he's got when we face Whoever Town in the Carabao Cup and go with the quality that we already have in the PL and CL and spend whatever we've got left in the treasure chest on the remaining gaping hole in the squad, which needs no introduction here.

And based on what I've seen already from him, Collyer might just have some game in his boots.

Yeah. Ok for 2 + 3 but could do with the recruitment team getting a move on.

He's 22 and not bad. I feel like some Champo team needing a CM will offer us like 5M with a sell-on clause and that'll be that.

Yeah. Ok for 2 + 3 but could do with the recruitment team getting a move on.

The recruitment team did a decent job last year with Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko. What they’ve done with Santos and Teilemans is mind-boggling and I’m quite pleased we spent a total of 90m or on those two than 85m on either Fernandes or Tonali, let alone 115m on Anderson.

I think you misunderstood me, mate. I’m ok with the beer and 5he woman… less so with the recruitment.

Otherwise, agree with you on the whole

if we sell him just make sure to include a somewhat reasonable buy back. Seems like it would be best of both worlds. Not like it is unheard of and im sure there are some buyers out there that would want him and be fine with that.

Not sure I'd want to go there if I were him. Hopefully he can get some assurances about his game time if he makes the move.

I think that he is better than Garner when he was sold. I reckon 15m is the minimum if there is no strings attached.

If we are going to sell him then it is imperative that we bring in a player that has presence and intensity in midfield.

Wasn't Garner young player of the season in the championship or something like that?? With all due respect he did great on his loan to the championship and while he looked a little shaky at the start for Everton it's better than Collyer has ever done for us in his cameos. Also there's no chance WBA are paying anything close to what Everton did for Garner. A starter at WBA is his actual current level. So I'd be really surprised if it's any more than 5/6 million

If we're going to sell Collyer, sell Amass, and sell Zirkzee, we better end the transfer window with a grandstand finish.

Take the money and run. He’s shown slight glimpses of how good he could be, but he is someone who doesn’t take enough risk. Sell, sell and hopefully we get 10 million!

Garner was light years ahead of him when he was sold, far more senior experience and a genuine PL level talent. Toby shows flashes but he is not close to being there and you can't say with any certainty what his eventual level will be.

With all the noise about MLS, and United looking for a player that can play both CM and LB - didn't Collyer play a match or two under EtH as an emergency LB? Or was that only Amrabat who did that?
He is very right footed. It was a disaster.

Officially transfered to West Brom. Best of luck to him and hopefully one day he can make it to the premier league. Seemed obvious to me that he wasnt going to have enough on the ball to break through to the first team at United, despite doing several things well. He's quite quick and will run back towards his own goal to help head off danger. All good stuff, but you also need to be able to play and thats what he needs to improve on. Maybe he will eventually.
