I don't think on the ball he is anything special, but if there is anyone from our youth team who looks the most adaptable to what we need in midfield in this formation it should be him. He has the athleticism, good tackler, intensity to his game. Surely would have provided more than Eriksen.

Yeah agree, the closest in our squad that matches the profile of Ugarte, without whom we look absolutely toothless in midfield.

I guess it's cuz he's just got back from injury and needs to get back up to speed? Would rather him than Case or Eriksen in the lineup, based on what we've seen of him so far.

Agreed. It was baffling last night that he didn't come on to add some energy and running to the squad if nothing else, because Eriksen wasn't getting anywhere near them to disrupt their passing.

He's being eased in after injury. He''ll start v Pool

Can they do any worse than what we have now?
Collyer will not be starting against Liverpool at Anfield. It has to be Ugarte and Mainoo. We have some interesting young talents, but aside from Chido Obi and possibly Kukonki, they are all lacking physically. I wouldn't mind seeing Amass at left wing-back. He's a lovely footballer. Again though, he needs to develop physically.

I think he might, we may play something like
Ugarte Collyear
Bruno Kobbie
As a middle 4

I doubt Collyer will start over Casemiro, but who knows. The issue is the lack of quality options in the 10 position. I'm up for moving Amad back to right wing-back, but we have nothing to replace him with in the attacking areas. We are so light in those central areas. There's only Ugarte and Mainoo who I have any faith in. Bruno should be sold, Casemiro and Eriksen are too old, Mount is never fit and Collyer will not be good enough, in my view. Garnacho doesn't fit the system.

I agree he won't start. However, of all the youth options he is the most physically ready to step into the team.

I hope he's really just being eased back in after his injury. He's almost certainly a much better option than Casemiro or Eriksen, and arguably a better stylistic fit to partner Mainoo than Ugarte as well.

We can throw the season away now anyways, so why not try to unearth 1 or 2 youth players that can legitimately contribute something to the first team already? An experiment like this would be useful for the future too, not just this season. And what exactly do we have to lose? The only way into the CL next season is winning the Europa League, unless something miraculous happens in the next few months.

£7.6 million if he hits the add ons. 40% sell on clause which have been good to us. I can see lad being sold for good money if he breaks into Hulls team for a few seasons.

He's a decent player who could become a good player but he's not going to get the chances here to develop. Good deal for everyone concerned. I can't really see them staying up but I think he'll be good in the championship next season and a PL club will eventually come back in for him and we double our money hopefully...

Add ons which are reported to include playing for England and West Brom qualifying for Europe.

He is going to West Brom not Hull.

Add ons aren’t great. 40% fine, but that’s not likely for years.

If he’s at Chelsea or City he’s leaving for £15-£20million. I’m not saying he’s worth that but it’s another poor sale

There are plenty of players they don't sell for that amount and why get let go on the cheap, or just loaned out forever.

Collyer is a 22 year old midfielder that has, so far, only ever shown himself to be decent in the Championship. He also never showed anything for us in the PL, and was actually injured most of the time that one season he got a few games.

Nobody was ever paying big money for him, especially not from the championship.

40% sell-on sounds big, but in a hypothetical best case of none of the add-ons being achieved and him being sold on from West Brom for £20m, that's only another £6.8m (40% of the £17m profit).

Everyone in this situation has been unlucky with his injuries - Toby couldn't show off more of his skill and develop further in the Championship last season, and United gets a worse deal.

Wish him all the best, and hope to see him again someday in the Prem.

Yeah, I think the reality of the situation is that he's just not a very good player. Maybe we could've got a slightly higher base fee but it doesn't really matter. He wouldn't have been worth more than that to us if he sat around in our squad for another season, better to just let him go and play football.

Chelsea sold a player to West Brom just last summer who was also off the back of a Championship loan, a better one than Collyers even.

Did they get £20m? No, they got £2m.

Who was that? With the greatest of respect, Chelsea buy and sell approximately 398 footballers each transfer window so I don't want to go wading through TransferMarket pages.

On the balance, I don't think this is a terrible fee - £5m guaranteed would have been good. I like him a lot, but at 22, the season he had last year hurt his value. If he had smashed it in the Championship - then I would have been looking for £10m+

Not fussed about a buy back - if he kicks on and we want him back, then we get a 40% discount, which is great.

Wish him luck. Not too bothered about him moving because while I think he seems a decent player, I don't think he is outstanding or good enough to ever be a first team player here.

It's a bit of a shame we can't seem to ever get decent fees for our young players though. Although at least we are consistently adding decent sell on clauses in case he has a big move at any point in his career.
