Kroos admits he could be tempted to try his luck abroad if there are no new developments with Bayern.

"There have been no negotiations," he told Bild. "That's why I don't have an answer to it right now.
"One thing is clear, I can imagine a lot of things. Let's wait and see.
"Abroad, the estimation for German players has risen enormously. If now three, four young German players make the switch, similar fees could be paid.
"That's a sign of quality - often those are young players, who have not reached the end of their development."

Interesting comments from him, specially the bit about his contract situation. Perhaps Balu could say how long he has left on his current deal.

It'll be interesting to see the gametime he gets once Bayern have their CMs fit. If he doesnt get enough, he could well move judging by his comments about being open to a move abroad.

Surely there's already a thread for Kroos? Anyway, I don't think he's really anything special and I'm not sure he'd work as a midfielder in our midfield. We definitely won't sign him as an AM if we refused Ozil.

No, I did a search. No threads which was surprising.

And this isnt about a transfer to us exclusively, he'l have other suitors if he wants to move. Regarding the AM bit, doesnt he play much deeper as more of a CM?

Contract until summer 2015. But I doubt he'll leave. He'll sign a contract extension before February, imo. Most of our players said something similar about the interest in someday playing abroad - Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Müller for example - and all stayed. Kroos fits perfectly into Guardiola's ideas and I'm sure he'll get enough playing time.

He was imo brilliant for Germany as a CM on Friday (behind Özil next to Khedira). Mostly he played as an AM when Heynckes was in charge - he plays that role totally different to Özil or Kagawa though. Van Gaal already tried to play him as a CM next to Schweinsteiger in 2010/11, Löw usually uses him as a CM (he was Schweinsteiger's back up for the world cup in 2010 for example) and I think he improved defensively a lot since then, might be his future. He said he prefers to play as a 10 in quite a few interviews, but I'm not sure that position exists in Guardiola's system. He looks like the perfect player for one of the central midfield spots in the 4 behind the striker in our 4141 formation to me. He's not as spectacular as Thiago but does the easy things consistently incredibly well, he's quick in mind, releases the ball quickly (almost always with the first or second touch) and often plays the pass before the actual assist, so he contributes a lot more to our attacks as it looks like in his stats. He also scores quite a few goals from outside the box. I wouldn't understand at all if we sold him next summer and basically replaced him with Thiago who imo is a comparable type of player.

Yeah, it does sound like him waiting to get a contract renewal offer which he hasnt so far. No reason to leave really if he continues to get games. Havent seen enough of him to form a concrete opinion but jusging by your comments, he'd play well as both an AM and a CM which really is a great asset to have for any team.

Imo he'd be awesome for us in a deeper role, very similar to Fabregas but its very rare for a Bayern player to leave.

Would love to have him at United. I rate him very highly and I reckon he would be great next to Carrick or Fellaini. I reckon he will stay at Bayern though.

Why do people feel the constant need to point out the existence of threads? Why not let the relative authorities merge if such merging is required? As for Kroos, I haven't seen much of him, but my German student (a Bayern fan) raves about him.

Yeah, would love him here, but I doubt he'll leave Bayern.

Has a good passing range and shot. Would do well in that CM spot, next to a Carrick/Fellaini.

Why would we not sign someone who is more capable of playing in a deeper role than Ozil because we didn't sign Ozil?

Where do you think is his best position? I thought he was excellent as a number 10 for Bayern last season but have also been impressed when he's played in central midfield.

He's a very modern, dynamic and versatile player with many strings to his bow. The German Paul Scholes. :D

His management are using the press to get more money, like Robben, Ribery, Rooney, Lampard did in the past...

Has anyone suggested that we should put a £25m bid in yet?

Varun, thanks for not idiotically bumping an old thread. We're encouraging posters to stop bumping mega threads or very old threads with misleading thread titles.

Cut loose, Toni Kroos, Kick out your Bayern blues.

As this summer has basically confirmed we're not interested in attacking midfielders, I doubt we'd be interested in Kroos... Toni Kroos...

He would be perfect. A world class midfielder who can also operate further forward if we wanted something different there.

I think he'd play the deep lying role brilliantly alongside Carrick.

But it's the stuff of dreams, it won't happen so I might as well forget about it. :(

Man of the match over both legs against Real Madrid in 11/12 IMO. It showed two things: his discipline at such a young age and his understanding of the role he was asked to play, which was the number ten role. He created a three v two situation, helped a lot by Mourinho's tactics and Ozil's lack of defensive work. I would love to have him at Manchester United. We are still in need of someone who can control our midfield...

Does he have a buy out clause?
Perhaps we could pay a few million more than that and hope he will take a pay cut
Nobody at Bayern Munich has a buy out clause. Not even Mario Götze, a player with more talent, way more hype and reputation got one, which is why he only he signed for four years instead of five, even though Bayern pays him a hefty salary.

I can't see Bayern letting him go.

I think it's inevitable Pep will try to utilize that False 9 tactic at Bayern with Muller as the 9. His comments on Lewandowski and the fact that Bayern didn't seem interested in acquiring a proper striker when they only have a decent one in Mandzukic lead me to believe this. He's going to need Kroos to make this happen, either as a starter or to come in for Gotze or Thiago. He'll be an important player and for this to work they need quite a few quality midfielders and Kroos is certainly that.

Pizarro is more than a decent substitute. On a good day he is close to being euorpean class, and he doesn't moan even if he is benched all the time. Müller and Götze are very decent alternatives. Plus Lewa is on his way in, i expected the rumour mill to heat up again in the winter break, which is less likely to happen now he had his contract improved, but it is more than 99% he'll wear red next season.

@sun_tzu: No Bayern first team regular has a buyout clause.

Kroos is a brilliant 8 or 10, he doesn't often stand out as the best player on the pitch but his understanding of how his fellow team mates will move and his brilliant technique makes him a very valuable player. He's more the type who makes others shine. A rare breed, and i doubt Pep is daft enough to not notice that.

Moyes checks out Bayern midfielder Kroos on Germany scouting trip

David Moyes was escorted into Borussia Monchengladbach's stadium by Toni Kroos' agent on Friday night after being alerted to a contract stand-off between the Germany midfielder and his Bayern Munich bosses.

Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic and Moenchengladbach midfielder Patrick Herrmann were believed to be the two main points of interest for the Manchester United manager when he booked his seat at Borussia Park for the Bundesliga fixture, which the visitors won 2-0.

But while both are under review at Old Trafford, Kroos has dramatically emerged as a viable target after his representative Sascha Breese, from the Sports Total agency, met Moyes and coaches Phil Neville and Steve Round and sat with them at the game.

At 24 and with a stack of Germany caps to his name, Kroos is a perfect fit for the area of United's team in most urgent need of improvement, and the Germany midfielder could be prised away after stalling over a new deal at the Allianz Arena.

His current deal runs out at the end of next season, and Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted: 'It is always about money in every agreement, and talks have so far failed to lead to a new contract for Toni. We are interested in prolonging his stay with us.'

Bayern would doubtless ask at least £25million for Kroos, but United have illustrated their willingness to spend big by agreeing a £37m fee for Chelsea's Juan Mata.

This would be an amazing signing if we managed to pull this off.
Can't see it happening and think his agent is playing us for a better contract but if it did then just imagine.....

He is one of those really big names that I have never really watched and formed an opinion on. Obviously from all the talk over the years he is a great talent but I don't know if I would be pleased or not. In saying that, the more quality the better, especially with the amount of players facing the chop at the end of the season.

Maybe if he'd given an interview in some form of media, but actually meeting with Moyes etc seems a bit more serious to me.

You could be right but the cynic in me says he met with Moyes to set alarm bells ringing at Bayern.
Obviously I hope it was more than that, I would definitely be more excited by the prospect of him coming than any other signing in recent years.
